Watching. Not terribly exciting. I understand what Chris is trying to do, but Ruslan was known for gassing out. Manny won't. And I don't think Chris can catch Manny like Marquez as it was just suggested. So unless Chris really puts on a show, its Manny by KO or decision.
Algieri made his million after taxes. He's a smart guy. Paid off most of his student loans with last fight's proceeds. He'll be fine. He just won't go very far in the boxing game. This was his gift from heaven.
He was lucky to have fought Provodnikov. Ruslan is a pretty gifted fighter, but also low IQ. Ruslan absolutely smoked Bradley, really beat the pissjuice out of Bradley, but the judges stole the decision from him. Since then, he has been a bit of a sitting duck waiting for a boxer to win a decision from him. So Chris got lucky.
Manny is a far superior fighter than Provodnikov. It is not even comparable. Algieri doesn't look like he has any kind of chance here.
Yes he is. He's still unique. Marquez is a great fighter and Manny got caught, but outside of that he is a legend. He was totally robbed in the first Bradley fight which I thought he won convincingly. So other than getting caught, he is still a legit top fighter. I thought he would be too old to face Floyd, but now I don't think so. He would train so hard for that fight and it would be worth putting on. Floyd would run, but if Manny is on his game he'd make it too hard for Floyd to pitty pat for points and still run away, so Many could win just on aggression alone. Otherwise, Floyd would have to fight off the ropes part of the fight and that would still benefit Manny. So I want to see that fight now. It's not too late after all.
Manny still has power in punches that would just be powder puffs with other fighters. That just natural strength. He can still hurt people with punches that shouldn't hurt, but they do. And while it sometimes looks unorthodox and shouldn't be working, there is often little wasted movement in his shots. They are so straight, they go right from his shoulder into your face.
