Knicks · For this team to make the playoffs....... (page 1)
We would have had to move our pick for an asset or two.
At best we'd be a .500 team and sent home packing in the first round. Then no pick next year and likely little cap space if we had gotten Lowrey, or someone else.
Mired in mediocrity, Melo would be left to continue the same pattern of George Karl like good regular seasons but never enough firepower to make a playoff run.
We are rebuilding but still have a prolific scorer signed long term. We need two more players: One via draft and one via free agency.
Building on that is my perception of how things are going.
No change is offer to happen until the thought process is. This happened when Phil took over. More important than fans buying into this is that Dolan does. An impatient short sited owner he has reacted rather than continued with any plan. He believes in Phil. Dolan had done this with Isiah but with little success. No guarantee that Phil will succeed but we can only sit back and see how it all plays out.
The Blame game is largely a losers rant. We know Fish is in over his head but its why he is here. A young bright winner who has the potential to emerge as a great coach. Surround him with successful assistants and stick to the plan. 19 games in and some fans calling for his head? For who? What mythical coach can turn this ship around this season? I think George Karl can!!! But I don't want him long term.

Nothing gained if there were guarantee's so the risk of what Phil is doing is always apparent. You do need luck to win a championship. So many things have to come together on the court, but even more important is what is done to put a roster together!

For knicks, it was seeing last year what this upcoming college class can offer via draft and what free agents could be available this summer. Sign and trades, stashed euro's, triangle potential players not doing well in other systems are just a few things to look for. not our job btw, but the knicks.
To those fans offering "what about this trade......", or "what about.........." its fun to think along those lines but we are never accountable for real moves.
Losing games is never easy but it sends a message that we are sticking to a plan on the court (do the triangle well or be gone) and if we don't have the talent now, then we let the natural order happen which is draft process. The guys on the court have a ways to go in getting the system down. We knew it would take time. Why some fans are moaning is amusing. Its as if they want the short term starphuch fix and the sugar high that goes along with it.
Which leaves us with Melo. Let him walk we get noting in return. If Melo wants out he'll have his money and we get something in return. If Melo can learn the way's of the Zen and seeks the greater glory of winning in NY, with $45 mil more I totally get that.
What we don't see is the clear path to how that greater glory gets accomplished. The NBA is a competitive landscape with all teams vying for the same pot of talent. Phil won't tell us he is tanking, cuz they have to sell tickets. I get that.

Since when is losing a plan, phil never said anything about going into this season in tank mode. All the talk was playoffs, playoffs, playoffs, fisher was even saying that even if we had last yrs squad we could make the playoffs. Now were sticking with the plan..smh
I'm suppose to pin my hopes on some wet behind the ears rookie who's mama is still blowing his nose, over pay a FA by 50 million to convince him were on to something.. if this is the plan..god help us..

Your a big boy. Forget what they say. They all tell us what we want to hear at the moment. THink for yourself. What is the roster, what are the assets and what is the outcome.
The plan to me is don't do anything to stop a losing season if it means limiting a longer term upside. Lose the battle to win the war.
All mad cuz they talked playoffs and you got your hopes up? Every analytical source and even dumb Barkley said team would suffer. Your choice were you set your expectations.

Yeah. That was originally what we did for 2016 in the Melo deal and with one of the picks in the Eddy Curry debacle. Again, I'm not advocating we do that because I'm actually looking forward to the prospect of drafting a gamechanger. Hell, Melo is my favorite player to watch and I'd trade him in a heartbeat if we managed to get a second pick in this draft that could turn into an Emmanuel Mudiay, Karl Towns or Jahlil Okafor. That ain't going to happen though.

Yeah, I can't imagine them agreeing to a pick swap. I'd def puke. I've also been a tank advocate since before the season began. Getting a high pick is exactly what this team needs. All the cap space next year, the dead weight like Bargs falling off the roster next year, and the Lotto pick a decent squad is doable. Trading for another first would be a dream come true.

Your likely right, patience and a hopeful draft, FA guys to go after.
However can't get no worse but upward one day soon.
Far as NBA playoffs I can't see this yr.; only if ny turns around their putrid home mag play and win games again ..
