It's time to move on from Melo. He doesn't get it and never will. Trade him for a bag of peanuts, whatever we can get, exorcising the Garden of his me-first attitude and declining skills will pay dividends.
This will be a test to see if Phil truly has the juice. If Dolan stays on the sidelines and lets Phil fix the team, starting with Melo, then the Knicks have a bright future. If not...I guess we'll continue to redefine what "long suffering" means to us fans.
Thoughts on who/what we can get for Melo?
I would try Chicago. I would take a pick, Butler and a young big. That's enough...hopefully they could even get that much.
The problem with trades for Melo is it is a massive confession that he ultimately sucks and we need to get him off our team.
Just the need to dump him so soon signals his value is vastly less than his contract.
Who is going to assume that kind of contract for a prima donna scorer who is aging like Dorian Gray before our very eyes?

Phil failed at his biggest decision. The rest of his time here will be spent trying to dance around Melo.
Seriously, nobody is going to take on Melo's contract. Unless there is a way for Dolan to assume a significant portion of the cost of Melo's deal, I see no hope of trading him. And I have no idea how that is even possible. Pretty sure it is not.
We're kind of screwed fellas.
All you can do is hope for magic and a rebuild that succeeds in spite of Melo and which renders him to a secondary status on the roster.

Good luck! I thought of that, but then looked at the salaries- it's impossible, Bulls can't come close to matching.

I would weep for joy if we could trade Melo for Butler and Mitrioc (don't think Butler would be quite so happy though! He'd probably walk in the offseason too). I wanted us to deal with the Bulls in the offseason, but alas it was not to be, and it's not going to be.
How about we send him to Brooklyn. I don't think you're admitting he has no value as a ball player just he doesn't fit the system we're looking to run. Houston or Dallas?
I just don't think Phil has given up on getting Melo to rise to the challenge.

But so many so called "untradeable" contracts have been traded: Gil Arenas, Joe Johnson, etc. If Melo waives the no trade clause, Im sure there is a deal out there. Of course, we wont get back any value and will have to eat other bad deals, but if they guy wants out the Knicks want him gone, it can be done.

But I'm not talking abut Melo consenting. Phil can embarrass Melo's cashmere butt out NYC and he'll be begging to be traded.
I'm just saying finding someone to take on the largest gross value contract in the NBA is very, very hard when the player is not really worth anything close to that number. It is going to be hard for other clubs to justify such a trade to their fan base.

Finding a viable trade partner is the problem. Shaming Melo out of town is doable.
Why would he get into it with THJ, hes not a team player and never will be, has a poor attitude. Wants everything his way, thinks too much of himself, just an overall sucker/diva. Juice for what? What could we possibly get back in terms of fair value that doesn't set the franchise further back? We are tanking. The roster stinks. There will be a full house cleaning in the off-season. Until then, embrace the tank.

Fisher should have been the one barking at Carmelo. I like the fact that THJ is stepping up to tell Carmelo to stop costing around, but the coach appears to lack the cojones to do the dirty work.
"Trade Melo for a bag of peanuts"? If we ship out Melo because we cannot make it work with him then what kind of message will that send out to other stars we will eventually have to recruit? Or do you want to pretend that a team of role players and "hard workers" alone will ever compete with the top teams in the league?
Just ship Melo out for nothing, value be damned, because that's clearly a very smart way to handle the situation...

I say trade Melo to the Lakers for Nash, Lin, Julius Randle, 2015 2nd rd pick and a future 1st Rd Pick. That gives us a boatload of caproom for this summer. Then we can go after Lamarcus Aldridge, Robin lopez, Danny Green and Brandon Knight.
Trade Carmelo? Seriously? Carmelo is not perfect, but he is a commodity. Surround him with the right cast of players and he will be successful. Rebounders: because he will take a lot of shots; defenders: because he is a part time defender; shooters: because he needs floor stretchers to give him space to operate. Too easy.
Forget about fantasy deals for first round selections. What's up with the knee?

i wouldnt say he is a superstar, he is a great scorer who has flaws in other parts of the game. This is coming from someone who likes melo. Lebron is a superstar and even anthony davis is a budding superstar

Melo is the guy you add at the end of a rebuild. You don't build around him which is a doomed premise from the get-go. Melo's primary value is scoring punch added to an otherwise high functioning and competent team. Melo is not a highly competent basketball player and he's a pea brain, but he sure can shoot. Chicago was his only real option to be utilized reasonably well, but money talks.
