He was trying to motivate him to play better before the deadline to desperately try and plumpen his trade value- he looked atrocious up until the talk, since then (and the illness), his numbers are much better.

Besides Melo, JR has the best grasp of the triangle..He makes the best passes on the team...He is still the second best player unfortunately..Phil is still trying to win and look attractive for free agents..That won't happen with a depleted roster..Fans think that free agents are dying to play with new draft picks...Philly should be able to attract tons if thats the case...
