Knicks · Credible trades for Melo (page 3)
CrushAlot wrote:Melo to the lakers is the trade that I think makes the most sense. The Lakers can trade Nash, Lin and Randle straight up for Melo. Hopefully the Knicks get a pick or two in the process. The Kings are reportedly entertaining offering a really nice package for Deron Williams. I don't know if you trade Melo or if you trade Melo there but the Kings seem to be going off the rails a bit. They definitely seem like a team Phil should engage as a trade partner for someone currently on the roster.
We need to target Jordan Hill and a future pick or 2 in this type of move.
Hill and Randle would be a nice starting point for Melo -- would love to get a couple of younger/cheaper players and cap space for Chumpelo.

how ironic
Let's take this to the black market and trade Melo for 4 more crack babies. Then we'll shock and awe opponents like a psychedelic buzzsaw.
Why would the Laker want Melo. He's on the wrong side of 30 and has back and knee issues. They then lose all ability to bring in a free agent next season. It makes sense for them to see what Randle can do and add another young piece to the roster and try to sign one more max talent and preserve the cap space when Kobe retires. They aren't the Knicks, most of the time they get what they want. they had a bad two seasons losing howard and gasol for nothing, but they are still a great franchise. in fact a top two franchise. the knicks are one of the worst franchises in basketball.
2016 - Horford, Noah, Durant
Unfortunately how many teams can take him? It looks like Jimmy Butler is playing into 15-17MM a year, so perhaps the bulls are a fit if they don't want to lose the kid, but i am sure he fits better long term than melo would.
The Clippers? who can they give of value? Houston is in the same boat. why would dallas want him at this point, i guess they could put parsons in a deal if they are going all in?

The Lakers offered Melo the max as well, so of course they wanted him, and sorry the Lakers are on a major downswing....their past will not influence their present. Papa Buss aint there anymore.

4 years @ 96 as opposed to 5 x 124 ... not the same thing.
And, that was then ...

Well, this year at the trade deadline, he'll have something like 4.2 yrs, 100 mil left. But you're right that that was then!

Exactly. Junior Buss has a lotta Dolan in him. He probably got all sticky wet thinking of a Kobe/Melo attacking offense.
All that being said I think the Clippers are a sleeper option for Carmelo. They desperately need a SF, dont they? Im looking at their roster and all I see is Matt Barnes and a bunch of SG's. It doesn't even matter what we get back at this point, it's just smarter to rebuild this team without a max'ed out Melo. Maybe they see Dallas' Rondo move and decide they also want to go "ALL IN"...

Actually ... that may be the perfect team for him with the perfect PG
(if he is healthy)
The Clippers are in a win now mode and Melo may put them over the top.
Risky though ...

Very risky, for sure. But they are clearly a tier below GSW, OKC, and SA.

What sort of trade could we even put together with LAC? We're both over the cap so salaries have to match, if we just send out Melo LAC has to send out at least $17.5M in salary. CP3, Griffing, and DeAndre are all off-limits and then they have a bunch of guys making $5M-$6M/year. And they don't really have any interesting pieces. They only have one interesting young guy, Reggie Bullock, and he's not that interesting. They've already traded their 2015 1st rounder to Boston and 2017 to Milwaukee. And they've traded their 2015, 2016, and 2018 2nd rounders.
I'm looking at Houston..... they are the only ones that can give us a good trade and still be a good team. If they can convince Josh to come, then trade with the Knicks.... they could put Josh, Melo, Howard and Harden on the same team. Kevin McHale is the coach and he had experience playing with multiple Allstars and hall of famers. That would be a tough squad to beat.

If we just look for a bailout - a combination of players totaling around 25 mil per and with shorter contracts than Melo's - there will be trade opportunities. It might require a 3 team deal but I do think we can get out of Melo's contract.

smith and melo in the frontcourt would make for the greatest case of subtraction by addition the nba has ever seen....
