Can you imagine... some NBA players are consistent...
Where they are coming from?
this whole argument is premised on carmelo anthony's outrageous contract and the insistence of running the triangle.
what this means is that you HAVE TO prioritize acquiring superior defensive players at the point of attack and at the rim.
you are not going to maximize your investment by paying for dragic in this circumstance, no matter how enamored you are of his game: he is an inferior defender.
avery bradley is making 7.1 million this season.

Dragic is not considered a good defender though he is a very good offensive player. I would pay 10-12 mil for him (though this triangle stupidity limits me being able to properly evaluate players).
the only two way guard is jimmy butler who we are not getting.
Who do you suggest?
The defense would improve if players are brought in that are at least willing. These players dont even bother to try to guard the three or even chase players off the line. I listened to Fishers post game yesterday and he talked about how the Clippers love to take alot of threes, but made no mention of attempting to stop them.
Thats because he endorses it. Fisher has employed the strategy that teams had against the 2012-13 Knicks....dare them to take those threes...they cant possibly hit them all. Very true statement, but they can hit enough to bury your ass. Clippers hit 15, that buried the Knicks.

Exactly!
Wonder why nobody can ask fisher what 35% from 3 equals to in effective field goal percentage.
That post game was a joke and fisher sounded like a dope.

There are no players on this Knicks team who can defend. On perimeter or inside.
Ask them to get out to guard the 3-point line and opponents will hit 60 points in the paint.
Defense is hard work and everything else after...
There is no point to work hard for anybody on this team for various reasons.
So all this talk is irrelevant.
This year team is as good as gone. And everyone on the court, on the bench, and in the office know about is.
The only delusional once are some Knicks fans who cannot let it go.

i have no suggestions. all i know is that context matters here. the knicks are in a big bind and salary cap notwithstanding every penny has to be counted carefully.
dragic's skills, as you fear, will no doubt be squandered in the triangle and he'd be overpaid in the first place: overpaid + squandered skills = disastrous diminishing returns.
short of being complete players, the next best thing is to build on the cheap and acquire defense-first players with high motors. such players are more likely to conform to this "stupid outdated" triangle system people are disparaging at the present time-- but think about it, we don't have too many triangle players right now.
jackson has already screwed the pooch with melo-- that doesn't mean he should not have a chance to redeem himself by trying to enforce his agenda. this means system first, and find players who will fit that system.
talent? sure, talent matters. but overpaying for talent has gotten the knicks what exactly?

ok ... maybe we can get a few more cheap triangle players like jason smith.
I truly hope that we are done with this stupid triangle next season.

well smith is a softie. imagine being brought in as a backup to bargnani. i recall he had one game where he sort of defended with some gusto and cojones. that said, i really only see a couple of guys worth hanging on to for the future, namely travis wear, big country cole, larkin. have to see the greek kid play at the nba level as well as early. that's a nice young group of guys to work with and it's worth allowing them to develop. who knows, one of them might very well blow up.
just not a fan of hardaway. or smith and smith. or calderon. on the fence about shumpert. acy is too scrubby.

fair enough.
Your holding onto to shumpert for dear life which I get ... I release already. Let him go prove me wrong (which is fine).
Steph Curry is a poor defensive player--would anyone want him? There's a team balance no one is a perfect defender in pro basketball effort goes along way after skills.

what's your point here? we have the worst defense in the league or thereabouts. please don't tell me the knicks would be contenders with curry here this season instead of calderon.

Well Melo is barely a Top 20 player
So swapping Melo out with most player ranked in the Top 20 above him that is
We'd probably be noticeably better than 5-29
Maybe closer to Brooklyn or Bucks record
Nothing ground breaking but competitively better
