Per Marc Berman on twitter, we're not getting any roster players back, only a 2nd round pick (from who isn't clear). Complete salary dump move.

https://twitter.com/nypost_berman

Would've liked to have gotten more than a 2nd rounder back esp. with Shump involved but opening up JR's money for next year helps us enormously ya gotta figure (JR was gonna opt IN on his player option btw -- forgone conclusion folks -- anyone who didn't feel that way is nuts). I can't say "good move" simple because we're giving up some talent here and are getting back next to nothing in return but for the 'ensuring more cap space' angle, it was a deal we had to make. Let's hope we can right this damn ship eventually where we don't have to make crazy deals like this anymore!!! Opens up 3 roster spots (Berman also reporting Dalembert will be waived). Go get me 3 top DL talents to replace these outgoing players now -- I'd sign PF JaMychal Green, SG Elliot Williams and PG Bryce Cotton (although I can live with Langston Galloway I suppose). Tell ya right now, if we turn around and add Galloway and 2 Westchester stiffs I'm gonna be livid! Don't play around with stiffs here -- use this opportunity to sign some TOP NBDL talent and build relationships for next year.

This just goes to show how Phil screwed up not trading Shumpert

You don't hold on to PURE trash, it will never appreciate

Oklahoma City will send a protected future first-round draft pick to the Knicks, league sources said. As part of the trade, Cavaliers rookie center Alex Kirk also will be sent to the Knicks, sources said. Cavaliers forward Lou Amundson and Thunder guard Lance Thomas also could be included in the deal.

Wrong. I said not to get excited.

Whether we get a 1st or 2nd, I'm thrilled with the trade. It is one of the best moves we've made in recent decades. I'm still a bit shocked we were able to dump JR.

he is a decent 6th man, just not a starter/facilitator/defender and is inconsonsistent with poor shot selection, however, with our poor roster we wanted him to do more
Playing back on his role as 6th man with a team full of talent he is not a bad contract or bad player, he would get less minutes if he isn't hot and that is the way it should be

Iman needs a change of scenario, he was put in a position to fail and we have a very poor development squad with poor leadership/veteran players that should have taken him under his wing
If he was playing behind a player like Tony Allen and in a uptempo and/or defensive roster, his skills will be realized
He played his best basketball in his rookie year before his injury as a SG on OFFENSE and defending PG/SG's on DEFENSE
Playing with the leadership of Lin and his ability to penetrate/facilitate, the ball was moving/players were moving/picks were being set both on and off the ball
Though we lacked talent with that squad, we made it work, while consistently hitting the OPEN MAN

Like Trevor Ariza, Jordan Hill, Channing Frye.... all players all developed much better once they left NYK and I think the same will be for Iman

Say what you want but when we concentrated on development even when we sucked

Wilson Chandler
David Lee
Channing Frye

Gallo
Nate Robinson

Jordan Hill

All are talents that we need and have not replaced
While we did need an upgrade of talent, it was needed by SIGNING a free agent and not trading an entire team to do so

Even

Laundry Fields
Novak
Jared Jeffries
Tyson CHandler

Bill Walker/Shawnee Williams

looked like solid NBA players when we had multiple players that could contribute in multiple ways with their versaility
They looked to make plays for each other, instead of just standing around, playing a TEAM basketball mentality that we are trying to do right now

Had we just stuck with our yoots and saved our picks, waiting for the opportunity to trade for a player at the right price or better yet, SIGNING A FA, we would be a TOP 5 team in the East do to chemistry/development of the same core players that have played together

Worse case scenario had we not made these stupid trades, we still could have acquired Lin/Chandler and signed Iggy
Instead, we sent David Lee out and went for the bigger name in STAT because Dolan prefers BIG NAMES to fill the seats of MSG, making the trade for CA was the start of many of our troubles
