Knicks · Greg Monroe Shows Out! (page 1)

nixluva @ 1/7/2015 11:04 PM
Monroe with a huge night against the Mavs. 27 pts 18 rebs 6 asts 1 blk. This guy may not do it for some on this forum but we don't have anyone who could have a night like that. Don't know what he had for breakfast but he needs to keep eating it. He's young and he's affordable by Max Salary standards. We could afford to give him a Max deal if we had to. I'm not saying that he's the answer to all of our problems but he's a developing young player and he's an Unrestricted FA. If we don't land Okafor I think it would be a good move to go after Monroe.
F500ONE @ 1/7/2015 11:14 PM
He has 1 of these games per month

Not good enough, it's a contract given

That would be regrettable yrs to come

Detroit is really getting it done by committee and/or

Contributions from everyone, Monroe doesn't play any defense either

D.J. Augustin had a great game too

A player nobody cares much for who's very rarely if ever mentioned

As a solid filler out vet to get on a team

SwishAndDish13 @ 1/7/2015 11:18 PM
I like Monroe. However, he is going to be significantly overpaid by somebody this off-season in all likelihood. If we could get him at the right price I'd be all for it but somebody will offer close to max which is too much IMO.
H1AND1 @ 1/7/2015 11:29 PM
He's a nice player but Id rather get a PF who doesn't need a max salary that protects the rim
And who plays rugged D.

That is an impressive game--hes been better and better since Josh Smith left. Hes going to keep a high level of play--you can see his rebounding pick up for several games.

You know one way of looking at him having this kind of game once a month is that there's untapped potential there. You don't have to take the purely cynical view that he's never going to be more than he is. He's 24 and actually getting better. He's not a great player but IMO he should be an option if we don't get Okafor in the draft.

We can go after a defensive center to play alongside him in much the same way he's used now. It's just an option but I think it's worth keeping an eye on his game the rest of the year. There's a saying "Don't let the Perfect be the enemy of the Good". We can't pass on every player because he's not the greatest ever. How many FA's are literally worth what they're likely to get this summer? How many do we legitimately have a chance to get? He would be one piece of a puzzle and not the whole thing.

Exactly big players tend to improve as they get older--hes a puppy(just turned 24). His 4 year 36min per game avg is 17.5 points 11 rebounds 3 assists 2 steals and a block----max money numbers for a big. In his prime he'll go to 20-22 points and 12-13 rebounds/

Id much rather have Monroe than Gasol.

There's a reason why Detroit is now winning and Monroe is abig cog in that. What other team in the NBA has 2 7 footers playing like they have right now? It was Josh Smith who fckd up that team

You made me laugh out loud with that Josh Smith Comment at the end. I wasn't expecting it. But really we have to stop only viewing players based on where they currently are and just ignoring all other considerations. This guy has been a victim of expectations. It's not like he's stunk, but people simply want more from him and I think he could be a player that is on the verge of fully realizing his potential. I think his value even at Max is going to be better than Gasol at his Max. We want a team that has a future as well as a present.

If you look at how many shots he normally gets I think he's not being used enough. You want to feed the beast with a guy like him. Keep him mentally involved and motivated. He'd touch the ball a TON in the Triangle.

Josh Smith is actually playing very well now that they have situated him as a sixth man in Houston. Basketball has a great deal to do with chemistry between players. The fit with Smith Monroe and Drummond was terrible for spacing. Now that there is more space--my bet is that each player--including Josh Smith will play well. I dont think it was all J Smith--it was circumstance.

Monroe would be a nice fit here. And a good mix next to Towns or Okafor.

I envy SVG. He pulls the plug on Smith to allow the other young dudes to come along. Knicks should have done the same with Amare since last season to allow another young big to get minutes to showcase his talent.

Perhaps i'm missing something but did we have a Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond on the roster behind Amar'e? Isn't this entire horrid season about trying to get young talent in here? Moreover Amar'e has been hurt a lot and hasn't exactly been able to block anyone from the bench.

All I know is as much crap as people talk about Greg Monroe not being good enough we sure could've used a player like him on this roster doing what he's been doing at only 24 yrs old. If we had developed a young big doing what he's doing over the last few years there's no way people would be talking bad about him. The more touches he gets the more productive he gets.

My thing is that we need to upgrade the overall talent and he's an Unrestricted FA that we actually have a shot at getting. He's still young and we'd have him thru his best years as a pro. He's also relatively affordable compared to older FA's. We would still have money to add more talent after signing him.

Bringing up the fact that he is not a good defensive player is not bashing the guy. It's a legitimate issue.

And well sure, duh, if he were a Knicks prospect that would be awesome but he isn't. So someone cannot bring up some of his negatives because the Knicks don't have a similar talent at power forward? That's kindve a silly stance to take, no?

I do not want the Knicks going after any more power forward free agents who aren't at least competent defensively. Monroe is a MINUS defender. No thanks at the max.

You have to keep some level of perspective. We aren't likely to be able to get another power forward who is better. Like I said don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. He's not as bad as you're making him out to be.

I'll follow more closely now that Smith is out of the way. Right now, I'd say he's worth $6 or 7 mil and some team is going to badly overpay for him.
