Knicks · Anyone who doesn't think we should waive and stretch Calderon anymore? (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 1/10/2015 4:18 PM
If no then you're still off. A couple of things
a.We should've picked up Nate wolters it was an ez fcking decision.
B. While I agree in principle about being cheap in free agency Don't show your hands publicly p j
There is the possibility of getting pick 1 and avenues of aggressiveness that makes sense. We need to be quiet opportunistic with eyes and ears wide open
fishmike @ 1/10/2015 4:20 PM
regardless now isn't the time. Look for options until the deadline. Then figure it out. This is a massive sell low. Lets wait and see. Getting him playing better wouldn't hurt

The more Calderon plays, the less his value becomes. Sit him out till the end of the season or until a trade is proposed. At this point, even a draft pick would suffice for Calderon.

knickscity @ 1/10/2015 7:11 PM
Dude is awful, you'll have to attach a draft pick to trade him.

Exactly.

Knicks1969 @ 1/10/2015 7:16 PM
Cut him....
RonRon @ 1/10/2015 10:35 PM
No point, stretch him in the summer

IF there are commitments made like we did with Tyson Chandler before we amnestied Billup and traded Turiaf to make room for him

So if we can sign 2-3 impact FA's then yes, however, if we are going to do it then pray someone will come over it would be a poor decision

and

I wouldn't do it in hopes of signing a RFA either, unless we think we are confidence that they would not match

This. Hopefully Pablo or Jose can be moved to a contender before the deadline. My guess is Pablo goes now Jose in the summer.

I'm for keeping Calderon. Right now it you really can't gauge any player. It's very difficult in a tank year to do so.
BigRedDog @ 1/10/2015 11:28 PM
Is Wohlers still available? Pick him up and keep Calderone at this point. He still has trade value thru the league.
CrushAlot @ 1/11/2015 12:15 AM
Wolters is still out there. But the Knicks signed Thomas and Amundson filling the roster. They would have to waive someone to get him. I think they should.

That's exactly how I feel about Hardaway Jr. We desperately need to get that kid going in the right direction, for one of two reasons: (1) we need to get his value up (I'd like to move him eventually -- I liked to see what we could get for this guy if he started playing better. Pretty confident that I could then tuen around and replace him withv an even better player for cheap money -- Elliot Williams, Manny Harris, Kevin Murphy, Terrence Williams, etc.) and (2) if we're gonna keep him, he's gotta start showing something. Can't put up 15 pts. on 15 shots with no variety to his game and no D. How does that help us thinking medium to long-term? This is a telling year for a few of our younger guys, specifically THJ. He's got opportunity galore right now to show what he can do. I haven't liked his game at all so far but he could turn things around for himself if he starts playing better. If not, I'm ready to move on at the 2 spot..

PassTheBall @ 1/11/2015 6:10 AM
I don't think we should waive him.

His shot is not falling right now but his bball IQ has not regressed and I think if Melo, STAT and Bargnani was playing he would be playing better as a result.

I agree.

I'd wait to see what kind of roster we manage to put together in the off season.

While he has looked bad - so has everyone!

He can certainly play a Jason Kidd type role with the right group IF there is talent there.

And if there isn't talent - then we have bigger problems that Calderon & his cap #.

Also, what FA exactly are lining up to play here next year?

Nalod @ 1/11/2015 8:57 AM
What is his problem at the moment? Has his game fallen off or is he playing thru injury?

he always been bad, this is nothing new. His season averages fluctuate by the game, thats what jump shooters do.

We watched Novak hit 40+% on threes for the season too, but we know from watching EVERY game he wasnt consistent. Alot of his numbers got skewed in garbage time vs zero defense. When we needed him to hit a shot...he didnt.

knickscity @ 1/11/2015 9:48 AM
Put it like this....5-8 is great, 3-8 isnt. But the average of the two? Just over 50%. So it looks like he's shooting great. Calderon will have some great shooting nights, then he'll go 2-10.

It makes ZERO sense to use the stretch provision on Calderon until/ unless we need the cap space

He was good in the playoffs, then for whatever reason turned to complete trash- he looked this bad the international tournament thing over summer

foosballnick @ 1/11/2015 11:48 AM
If your team stinks and the objective is to try and collect assets to improve for the future, what is the value in cutting a guy and keeping his salary on your cap? You look to improve value as much as possible and trade when the opportunity presents. You can always cut and stretch him in the offseason.

You also currently have multiple guys on 10 day contracts who can be cut loose if roster space is needed and other opportunities present themselves.
