Exactly. And even now, why aren't we giving guys like Seth Curry or Quincy Miller a shot? We have so much dead weight on this roster, guys who aren't going to be back next year anyway, why are we wasting our time with them?

I agree. Curry is the guy now that Miller and Green have been signed.

What I find especially interesting about this argument, though, is that apparently D-Leaguers living at or below the federal poverty level would be unwilling to leave their parent organisation to come here. Yet, free agents next Summer will be willing to.

I think we need to give the Knicks a little bit more credit than this. We can't just assume they weren't interested soon enough. JaMychael had a long relationship with the Spurs.

Thomas and Amundson showed a lot of energy in London in their debuts, but likely just one will remain with the team as the Knicks will try to add more new blood to the roster.
JaMychal Green has left the Austin Spurs of the NBA D-League and will likely sign with an NBA team very soon.
He has drawn interest from the Spurs, Bulls, Grizzlies and Knicks after his impressive showings in the D-League, but New York is the only listed team where he could potentially make an impact right out of the gate. The spurs made a roster move to sign the guy. Maybe they said they think he can contribute to their team now. Why would he leave the San Antonio organization if they are actively trying to give him an opportunity? So he should tell Pop that he would rather go play for nothing in ny, rather than be apart of a playoff team?

Maybe if we had offered him a contract when we had a roster opening almost two weeks ago he would have come here instead of waiting and hoping SA would sign him. Or maybe we just force SA's hand and they sign him earlier. The overall point is that we shouldn't be wasting our time with guys like Amundson and Jason Smith. Clearly, neither player is going to help us this season and neither will be here past this year. Those spots could be used by a player that might help us win games past this season.
Has anyone considered that Green was the one waiting until the show case- I think a lot of you are misunderstanding how the d league works. Players build up relationships with certain teams who are developing them- players then have the curtesy to let those teams know if they are being offered a contract by another team. In this case, Green probably knew he'd have more leverage if he waited until after the showcase, teams started offering him contracts and he went to the Spurs and let them know if they didn't sign him, he would sign with one of the others. Thats why the Spurs so hastily cut Daye. If we'd have approached him 2 weeks ago, all that would have happened would have been he would have then gone to the Spurs and they would have cut Daye 2 weeks earlier and then signed Green.

He built up such a relationship with SA that he signed with the Clippers last year. I don't know where you're getting your information from but D-League players are under on obligation to inform their parent club of a contract offer if they don't want to. And I can't imagine any player making, at most, $25K that would turn down a contract offer for $500K from an NBA club. I mean, can anyone remember a find an article about a D-League player or CBA player that turned down an offer from an NBA team to stay where they are?

Very True some cases but there were a few teams looking at the kid
He chose the Spurs, I bet if we were winning we would have had a much greater chance
Although do you think he cracks the Spurs rotation and receives playing time there

It's silly to be concerned with the roster spot. Phil can make room if he needs to. The thing is that people around here were wrong in assuming the Knicks weren't trying to get the kid in the 1st place. It's not like the Knicks were in total control of where the kid goes. It's up to the kid and his agent and they chose the Spurs. Now if he's let go he can consider the other teams that have been after him. Hopefully he choses the Knicks this time.
