Knicks · I think Galloway should be signed to a multi year highly cost restrictive deal (page 2)

Almost identical games--Duhon may actually have been a little quicker with and without the ball. After we saw a lot of Duhon up close those couple of seasons though, didn't it become apparent that we needed more at that position after a while? Not trying to take anything away from this kid -- he's had a decent run so far and deserves credit (equal parts decent and poor so far to be fair--even tonight where he made some shots, had another putback slam almost identical to the one he had against HOU which was nice but then had some really poor shots when he was pressured with the shot clock running down--I remember 2 back to back when NO closed the lead to around 5 late). We could do a lot worse I suppose...He's been our best story by far this year (which really isn't saying much at all, no offense to Galloway) but I don't see "it" necessarily, as in a real standout player. He can't create a lot off the dribble, pretty slow. I dunno man. Dude's a tweener that's OK at a few things, not great at anything. Meh....His game reminds me too much of Calderon's and Prigioni's to be honest. Having said that, what you're proposing isn't unreasonable. I bet we wind up offering him something like that.
Personally, I'd like to see us go after a truer/faster, more dynamic type of PG. The Knicks should want that for themselves too. And if it's a legit 2G we're after, gimmie someone a little bigger, 6'5" or better... I really wish they'd give Bryce Cotton a look. I think the Garden would absolutely LOVE Cotton. I've seen a ton of that kid in the DL this year--he's better in every area over Galloway. And 6'5" 220 lb. Orlando Johnson's the legit 2G I'd look to add (along with 6'7" Kevin Murphy who went over to China, maybe for the rest of the year--when his deal's up in China, I'd grab him--Murphy could be a real force of a scorer at the SG position for next year). Galloway would be in my mix for next year but go get me these other 3 guards and let them compete against Galloway head to head and then let's see...I have trouble handing Galloway anything at this point. I think we can flat out do better at each guard position.
too late on the duhon look alike .... called it already in his first game :-) lol
He will be paying attention to what Beverly would be making this summer and follow the transition he has made the past couple of years

Chris Duhon was actually okay as a backup, until the partying took its toll

Too early to make a true evaluation of Galloway at this point. I always look at the good things a rookie does, and tend to temper my criticism because I understand that all rookies are evolving players.
I remember reading the Peter Principle many years ago, and its message, "every employee tends to rise to their level of incompetence," seems appropriate in sports, and you can even apply it to individual components of a guy's game. I've seen a few weaknesses in Galloway's game(yeah, he is not known for creating off the dribble, but I don't see him as another Calderon or Prigs), but he has not had time to work on his weaknesses at this level. I'm not sure what his level of incompetence is as a player right now, but his ability to address those weaknesses will determine what kind of role he has in the future- whether he can actually be a starter, or just a significant rotation player. I figured at the very least he could be a jump shooter who could help open the middle of the floor, but his game seems much more well rounded than I anticipated.
I hope the Knicks give him about 30 MPG for the rest of the year- that will give you a real indication of what we have in him.
Have any of Phil's PGs actually ever led the team in assists? I don't think so. Galloway fits the Armstrong, Kerr, Paxson, Fisher role, perfectly. Smart, decent defender, decent passer, good rebounder, and he is a good shooter who can shoot from deep and finish at the basket. I don't think Phi and Fisher see him as an Alpha Dog, but as someone who will contribute on a good team.
I'm sure that Phil would love to have a 6'5" dynamic athletic guard on the team, but you have to think that he would be looking for someone who has these physical tools, as well as the high BB IQ, that his two superstar guards had. Galloway is not an elite athlete, but he is not a stiff, either, and he does not seem overmatched athletically at this point.
Only time will tell, but I see him as an additional late 1st round pick that we did not have in the last draft.
While they would be considered "ROOKIE's" they are not real rookies, outside of Thanasis who also has great work ethic and a legit NBA body
Orlando Sanchez is a player that I think would FIT in greatly with this system and would be playing the role that STAT is playing off the bench
His body/skills reminds of a blend between Jared Sullinger/Channing Frye, with a very mid range shooter and could hit 3pt's and with bit of handle if a PF/C comes out to defend him, to beat them of the dribble
He can play both on off the ball, the initiate the offense at times, and with some legit NBA post moves, decent size/athelticism/footwork/skills in the post with a very good NBA shooting ability
I like what STAT can do to score, but he isn't a facilitator that we would need to create shots and initiate our OFFENSE
In addition to his injuries, we simply could find cheaper options that would be avaiable much more in a 82 games schedule
While I am surprised that STAT has improved his footwork/post abilities, he will always have injury concerns and always be a poor defender and not a good rebounder/shot blocker as well
So at the very least I see
4 players being part of our rotation moving forward
Add in our #1 pick, hopefully OK4, in addition to the MLE on 2 players for about 3m each, the rest of our salary *and trade exemptions that would count against our cap*, and we would need to find some more younger talent with D League, undrafted players, Foreign talent, and players that teams give up on that could be the next Gereld Green/Danny Green/Courtney Lee/Wes Mathews, Whiteside and many other type of players that have suprised the league
Galloway
Thanasis
Travis Wear
Orlando Sanchez
OK4
Just saying, add in Kawaii or Butler and Draymond Green
Galloway
Kawaii *Thanasis learning off Kawaii*
CA
Green
OK4
maybe even at times going BIG
Kawaii *with ALL OF THESE PLAYERS ABLE to help and take turns bringing up the BALL*
Thanasis
CA *CA's defense would be hidden in this lineup, while we would be playing a half zones scheme, with multiple shooters/abilties to post up to initate the OFFENSE
Green
OK4
MLE on 2 players at about 3m each
Cole Aldrich
Galloway
Tim Hardaway JR *would not mind trading him for 2 early 2nd rounders in this draft or 1 early 2nd rounder and 2 mid/ 2nd rounders, one could be future draft*
Early??
Travis Wear
Orlando Sanchez
Acy??
Jason Smith?? looks like he is much better player when the ball is QUICKLY MOVING....
in this deep draft, I would consider trading one of our future 1st rounders, for a 1st rounder and 2 2nd earlier/mid 2nd rounders
Many teams have too many picks that they simply cannot use and would hold against their salary cap as 1st rounders like Boston/Philly etc....

Thanasis really needs to learn how to shoot for him to make it here.

I agree, that is something that could be learned and I do believe he will learn it one day with his work ethic
He already has the confidence, work habits that some players lack, and look at Ariza, he could have been out of the league had not developed his game in LA in to a pivotal piece now for contenders and is a very good versatile player/defender
I think Thanasis certainly has this type of impact that Ariza has grown to be over the years, and 2-3 seasons, especially if we sign the right mentors to help elevate his game and with similar weakness/strenghts like Wesley Johnson who is quite comarable and is a UFA

yeah ... maybe he will learn to shoot.
It scares me a bit that his brother still can't shoot.
Remember --- on most legit NBA teams --- he'd never see the roster. We are so desperate as fans that Rosie O'Donnell would look like Jennifer Anniston if she made a layup in a Knick uni.
A guy I'd be more intrigued with that is in the D-League is Lorenzo Brown - 6'5" PG out of NC-State. Read a blip yesterday that scouts think he is hands down the best PG in the D-League.

It's both amazing and severely depressing that a kid like Galloway with limited size/athleticism can come in and look like he fits in the system so nicely and a 1st round talent like Hardaway seems to struggle so desperately to find his way.
Timmy's decline may be the most disappointing aspect of this season -- that and the fact the Space Jam aliens stole Jose's jump-shot and game.

Shoot, pass, dribble, not foul, team concepts....etc.

Its the sense of entitlement. Galloway was a nobody and worked his azz off while Timmy was born to play. And from what it sounds like, timmy did not listen to big timmy and the family almost broke apart because of this.
You could already see the bad signs last season. Knick fans are just blinded by their own kids.
As well as players like Dante Cunningham, and many players with team options for 2nd year like Booker
There is a huge difference between the talent from vet min to 2m - 3m

Which is exactly my point on reaching at guys like Admundson
We can find 10-12 men all day everyday
But to be playing him over guys you surrendered assets for
Is near criminal when at best said player may barely make the squad next year
Basically a 3 or 4 year contract for him is the same as if he was selected 58 in the draft. He gets the pro rated 520K this year 1/2 of a year and then next year guaranteed which is an avg yearly investment of beans in the NBA. You just hold his rights in yr 3 and 4.
Someone said it right and I agree--he simply could be Toney Douglas. But lets put him in the right position--guarantee him pay next year and then if he plays well double what he is making now in years 3 and 4. That makes him feel wanted home--part of the team not a rental with incentives to play well. If he works hard and plays well--nice. If he doesnt no skin off of the team.
If he is a 1 than he always had very low assist numbers.
mreinman wrote:he seems to have always been quite efficient. Is he a 2 or a 1?If he is a 1 than he always had very low assist numbers.
I think was a 1 that moved to 2 in or before his freshman year. They need to lock him up because you never want to have a Wes Matthews situation. Lock him up early before he creates a higher value and while you can give yourself an team option year or make salary partially guaranteed.
