Knicks · Offer Draymond Green MAX? (page 5)
It gives SA 3 days to add talent while keeping Leanard
Those 3 days puts pressure on them to acquire and keep talent, having an effect on FA this summer
What sepperates KAT from Ajinicia???
Who will have the better year next summer if both are given the same amount of PT?
My guess is Ajinicia and that KAT will likely have trouble NOT fouling out and if he can adjust to the game and develop/learn as quickley as NOEL has turned it around once he did, he will beast but I think he will be much more raw than Noel and doesn't have the ability to dominate easily like he once did in college
I guess it will go back to the development coaches and his worth ethic as well
But I would look to acquire some of the same development coaches that has work on AD, Ajincia, in addition to Rasheed Wallace if we are able to select him
If not, I would not be upset if we could still acquire some of the Guards in this draft
Assuming KAT/OK4 are 1st/1nd
Justice Winslow *Jimmy Butler on DEFENSE* with a bit of James Harden on OFFENSE, his ceiling could be the highest among all players of the draft if he continues to develop
I think he could be the best 2way player in the draft, with the game has evolved to a guards game, I wouldn't mind drafting him and using FA on BIGS in this years FA and next years
Russell
Mario Hezonja
Mudiay could be like a Tyreke Evans and he is the lower one on the top of the draft however
if we managed to acquire 2 players especially of the above, if we landed the #1 overalll draft and traded down or/and even if we had to move CA and a future draft pick in the process, it would be great
If we drafted 1 of the above and 1 below by trading the #overall pick, I wouldn't mind it either
I would prefer
Justice Winslow/Russell/Mario Henzonja, would be VERY HAPPY if we were able to draft 2 of these talents and then utilized our cap space wisely, especiallly with Ajinicia as our FA's, allowing these guys to penetrate/finish or get a Wide OPEN 3pter, with Shved/Galloway, in the rotation depending on the draft, and finding a couple of defenders to team up with Thanasis, fit his abiltiies, and mentor him like Wesley Johnson who has similiar skill sets and physical abilities that I think would speed his development up, and other talents like Will Barton, DeMeRRe CaRRoLL, Danny Green/Wesley Matthewws, Koufus/Lavoy Allen/ Ed Davis/Serphin
Kristaps Porzingis
Frank The Tank
WCS
Kelly Obre
2nd rounders, hopefully we can get 2 2nd rounders
Terry Rozier
Dakari Johnson
Upshaw
Rakeem Christmas
IF WE CAN BUY LOW
would like to trade for
Meyers Leanard
Tony Wroten/Covington/Thomas and some of Philly Role players
Wilson Chandler/Hickson
Would dangle Tim Hardway JR, Early, Acey/Larkin, along with FUTURE 1st rounders to get HIGH 2nd rounder in this draft with other assets with players and multiple 2nd rounders back
IF we can trade CA to a contender if we cannot decide to go young and obtain good value back, we could possibly get back assets in order to do the above, and would trade a future 1st rounder if needed to do the above
Hoping we can trade CA to Houston to Morey and Houston so they can get thier #3rd STAR or to LA for their pick, as we are unlikely to contend with CA in the next 2 seasons with his contract
For Houston I would be looking at something like
1 - New Orleans 1st rounder this summer and Houston OWNS ALL OF THEIR 1st rounders outside of this summers to Lakers for taking Lin's contract
2 - New York Knicks 2nd rounder this summer and next summer, possibly 2017 Portland's 2nd rounder
3 - A combination of talents that at least have 1st round potential value which will be RFA's in the summer of 2017 when the cap rises 20m that FIT IN the triangle from
DMO
Terrence Jones
4- Salary throw ins with 150% rule, that could possibly be traded for at least 2nd roudners at some point, with us taking lesser contracts, giving us more ability to spend
Corey Brewer about 5m
Koustas Pap (the Euro we drafted a couple years back who is one of the better younger European players from Greece) 5m per year UNGUARANTEED,
DMO next seasons contract $2,288,205
Qulifying offer in 2017 $3,278,996
Terrence Jones next seasons contract $2,489,529
QO in 2017 $3,532,642
Corey Brewer FINAL YEAR, next season $4,905,000
Kostas Papanikolaou this summer $4,851,769
2017 $5,727,211
Throw ins could include Nick Johnson, though I would prefer a shorter contract
This all adds up to about $15,000,000 with 150% rule on top of it including the picks and any throw ins if needed like Clint Capela, even Pablo Prigs and Jason Terry in a sign and trade *with a partial guarantee for first year or for only 1 year as sign and trades needs 3years to fit the salary
DMO
Terrence Jones
Memphis 1st rounder
NYK's 2nd rounder in this draft and next years draft back
for
CA
Tim Hardway JR/Early
IF needed Thanasis but would demand Houston's future 1st rounder back but would try my best to keep Thanasis
CA
Has a trade kicker and no trade clause (but to play with James Harden/D12 and Ariza/Josh Smith, in addition to MORE MONEY trade kicker and with NO STATE TAX and joining INSTANT contenders, it would be hard to resist rather than waiting for the NYK's to develop their youth
Carmelo Anthony next summers salary $22,875,000
(this years salary)$22,458,401
$24,559,380
$26,243,760
$27,928,140 (player option)
Possibly throwing in
Tim Hardwaway JR next summers salary $1,304,520
RFA in 2017 $2,281,605
QO in 2017/18 $3,335,707
if needed
Early next summers salary $845,059
Acey/Larkin *sign and trades*
Galloway patrial guaranteed $845,059
2017 $980,431
Knowing Morey, he likely would try to rape trade us and also try to demand Thanasis in such a deal, which I WOULD NOT PART WITH due to his potential and ability to defend multiple positions with great length/versatility/possibly lock down type defend/player/motor of a young Trevor Ariza if he could develop a 3pt shot like he slowly did and was a KEY piece to the Laker's ring and I think if he stayed in LA, he would have even helped them win at least 1 more ring as he was a GREAT FIT
And if Morey keep insisting on Thanasis, I would demand a future 1st rounder and 2nd rounder or them taking Calderon off the books
It is possible that they could have interest in AB as a stretch 4/5 if they give up both Terrence Jones and DMO if AB will take a pay cut with no STATE tax in Houston
Which he is very likely to do so anyway, though we do not even have to include him in a sign and trade to fit, as Houston would still have the FULL 6m MLE to utilize which they could use for 2 players with some of it going to KJ McDaniels
holfresh wrote:U can't give roll players max deals..He is the 3/4th option on the team at best..He won't be a second option type cause you want him to be..You can't count on Draymond to give you 20 on a given night..Nice roll player tho...
Some thought of the same for James Harden, while I said he was a STAR that was the better OFFENSIVE player than Westbrook after OKC loss to The Heat
Green isn't the same player as Harden, however, my point is Harden was playing OFF THE BENCH and was playing behind both Durant/Westbrook
Green's defensive abilities to cover MULTIPLE POSITOINS
among with his triple double threats are for real
He is a candidate for DPOY
His LEADERSHIP and FUNDAMENTALS are for real and he can teach this, he will be a FAN FAVORITE AND COACHES FAVORITE ON THE FLOOR, ALONG WITH GREAT TEAM MATE
He has HIGH IQ to go with his talent and HIGH MOTOR, while playing the 4, it will lead to a wide OPEN 3pt shot or/and the lane for Shved or whoever to penetrate, especially if we sign Ajincia
His abilities both on the court and off the court should be counted for, with his leadership and ability to make "others better as a mentor"
Draymond Green is the difference between last years GS team and previous years and plays as he is 10year vet with the defensive abilities to defend multiple positions, providde leadership that we lack, and mentor our young guys on floor spacing, defensive priniciples *team defense and 1v1 defense that he can teach*, how to rotate, how to move the ball, how to move without the ball, how to set screens both on and off the ball, how to cut, put each others in catch and shoot, how to utilize ALL 5 players ON BOTH OFFENSE AND DEFENSE
He is the exact meaning of CULTURE CHANGE and will elevate/help our youth develop
While we will not be GS without Klay/Curry, we can be the next Atlanta with our pick, and the rest of the cap space, with the full 6m MLE, and our develping young guys, among with D League callups of Thanasis/Orlando Sanchez

smackeddog wrote:No way in hell- warriors will match so all it does is tie up our money while we miss out on obtainable free agents. Warriors can trade David Lee and a pick if they are worried about a one year cap hit, then the expanding cap kicks in and there is no problem. It's weird how no one talks about Harrison Barnes anymore- Green has completed overshadowed him.
Barnes has been spectacular and I think people overlook him because he is not a FA and know that in the future he is likely to continue being a Warrior because of the Cap spike.
Triple Double threat with a pair of blocks and steals
Provides leadership, creates mismatches, defends multiple positions, does dirty work, and provides more than the boxscores show
GS is a TOP OFF efficiency and TOP DEFENSIVE TEAM, he is the one that took David Lee's starting spot and a big part of their sucess this year
Yet, people continue to think he is just a role player
Whether GS matches is one thing but to not achknowledge that he is in fact a game changer on BOTH ENDS and credit him with the success of GS is a huge insult after 82 games this season

James Harden wasn't a starter but in his last year where he played the equivalent amount of minutes as Green played this year, he scored 16.8 pts per, shooting 49% and 39% from the three..I'm not sure why you think there is a legit comparison here..This is Green's breakout year at age 25, contract year..
While his ability to penetrate and finish open things up for the team, just like Green's overall impact and triple double threat will open things up for his team on top of his leadership/defensive abilities
Whether GS would match is another question, denying this kids abilities and even some calling him a ROLE player is another
Lets not forget that he does not get to finish a lot of games due to blowouts and right now in the playoffs, he will get to play more minutes and usage
This is truly his first year playing and he plays like the his a 10year vet, as a triple double threat with a pair of blocks and steals a night, creating a mismatch on OFFENSE and being able to provide great team defense and 1v1 defense at the same time
He is the difference between GS past year's success and this years success, give this guy the credit he deserves, even when BOGUT and NO BIGS were playing he has held this group together
In terms of making others better, a culture change, playing a system basketball with ball/player movement, DEFENSIVE intensity and ability to teach our young guys how to play DEFENSE as a whole, he does all of that and is exactly what we want to be, so PAY HIM AND SEE IF GS does match or not, it will not hurt, as those 3 days the talent that would consider the NYK's salary will wait it out regardless
People keep saying we can develop the next Draymond Green, they are only placing a value of his STATS and that isn't what basketball is about....
That is such a slap in the face, triple double threats, leadership, fundamentals, ability to provide team defense, and help our youth develop to better players
He does much on the floor but he does even more off the floor and that is why you cannot draft the next Draymond Green
He has the respect and knowledge of the game already with his leaderhip, ALL WILL LISTEN TO HIM, as he would be a FAN FAVORTE AND A COACH FAVORITE on the floor teaching and mentoring our guys, including our TOP PICK, YOUNG GUYS, and teach the team how to play and read opponents DEFENSE together
Most importantly this guy is YOUNG with many years ahead of him, as this is his first real season playing actual minutes consistently, especially as a starter
So he could be a piece moving forward for a lot of years, and a player of his age already doesn't have much mileage due to his barely playing his first couple seasons and being a 4year Tom Izzo product with fundamentals and all round game

Agreed. He is the proverbial straw that stirs the drink on that team. They will match any offer and when the cap rises in a year or so it will be a relative bargain.

too bad we don't have picks. Cap will be waht $108M the year after next. a $95M payroll is not even at the minimum league requirement at that rate. You have to be at 90% of the cap. the warriors are keeping draymond green.
crzymdups wrote:sure, but until it doesnt they are looking at luxury taxes out the wazoo... maybe even in the 1:2 ratio. That isn't what bothers me
What bothers me is how so many posters here downplay what Draymond Green would bring to our team
How what he brings can be very possibly drafted in the 2nd round and developped
How he is a "role player"
Everything he brings on the court, is worth a max contract with triple double threats, versatility on OFFENSE (causing mismatch at the 4) and DEFENSE (being able to defend multiple positions)
His experience, leadership, abiility to mentor/elevate our young guys, high motor/work ethic, that do now show up on the boxscore is even more important than the STATs that show up
He is the KEY reason why GS is where they are today versus the past years, as he barely played outside of this year
So at his age, he should be a target and would be a complete steal
The fundamentals that he has, with the skills, versatility that he has, he can actually teach a lot of this to our team like
Floor spacing, both player and ball movement, HOW TO DEFEND 1v1 and play HELP DEFENSE as a team, how to use picks and how to set picks, how to put ourselves utilizing all 5 players as threats especially in catch and shoot scenarios, how to cut/when to cut, how to recover on defense and when to cheat, how to play WITH THE BALL AND OFF THE BALL, how to hide our weakness's and fully utilize our strengths
You do not measure a players talents on what he does on the boxscore alone but how the team is able to play as a whole as he is a huge reason of their OFF efficiency and DEFENSIVE rankings
These same posters would rather throw a max contract on Kanter, Tobias Harris, Greg Monroe, and some other talents because they have the ability to score more but do not have close to the defensive abilities/versatility/locker room presence/leadership that Draymond Green would provide
I think we can all agree that playoff basketball is totally different from a 82 game schedule, and Green should be measured much on his playoff abilities as he continues to show as his FIRST year with steady minutes/role, with many more years ahead of him
You do not simply develop a player of Green's abilities, he is a special player in his own way, and is the glue to GS's success with where we want to be
This is his true 1st year with steady minutes and he plays as a 10year vet
Let's remember that for the triangle, we need a player of his talents
That is a player with the ability to POST UP and facilitate, leading to high % shots, and is a VERY GOOD REBOUNDER and TOP NOTCH DEFENDER, while he is still in his prime
So Amare can post but he doesn't have the ability to facilitate, a reason why he doesn't FIT in with the triangle as well, on top of his poor defense
Pau Gasol
Shaq
Odom
Pippen
Jordan
these are all past players that are versatile, with the ability to defend at a high level, and be able to score/facilitate at the same time
So we lack leadership and the qualities/skills that Draymond Green brings and his ability to FIT in ANY CHAMPIONSHIP contender, yet many do not value what he brings and consider him a role player, while not wanting to pay him
I said James Harden was a SuperSTAR in OKC, while many here suggested he had the luxury of playing with Durant/Westbrook, well yes he plays with Curry/Klay Thompson but both were in GS in prior years without the successs they are having this year without Green in the rotation/SL, and they are playing at this level of 84 games with multiple injuries to start off with
So if we do not have Westbrook/Durant, we should not try to acquire James Harden?
If we do not have Klay Thompson/Curry, we should not try to acquire Draymond Green?
This is one of the GREATEST teams in the entire NBA and he is a key part of it, while some would rather pay Acey and develop him to Green
*REALLY?? that is such a dissrespect/snub and obviously measuring a player's value with the boxscore*
In the NBA, you have to overpay for talent, it only means that those players are in demand for a reason
However, if you are going to pay for talent, make sure he has the ability to defend at a high level, be able to FIT in with the team/system, make sure he makes everyone around him better, and could play both OFF and ON THE BALL, all of which he brings....
The TOP 3 RFA's that has these skills and abilities are
Kawaii Leanard
Jimmy Butler
Draymond Green
If we were able to acquire 2 of these players it would be very easy to plug in players that FIT in with these players with DEFENSE and PLAYING as a TEAM, all of which a great defenders, are young, with the ability to post up/facilitate

Ron why do you post about Butler Leonard and Green when there is 0 chance we will get any of them. Let me ask a logical question. Lets say you are in charge of those teams they are on---tell me why you wouldnt match any offer they got? If we say there is no chance then why do we even bother mentioning them. If there was even a 2% chance Id go with it--but you are watching the playoffs--you see these players value to their teams.
While we can see who will be available and then try to make steals from there
Position ourselves where we can make a plan that is best for our future and execute it, as we limit the moves of other FA's and teams that have the ability to spend....
The more a team has to pay in order to keep a player, the less they will have to spend in the future as our competitors for FA's
Just because the cap will rise to 100m + in a couple of years, doesn't mean that all these teams have the ability to pay these players and keep a profit that NYK's will have with Dolan's pockets to attract FA's
Because Dolan owns his own TV network with MSG/Rangers, we can afford to do things other teams can not....
Thanks to Steve Balmer, he suddenly made the NYK's and MSG multiply in terms of value and the #1 or #2 highest value team in the NBA or sports together with the Rangers and MSG together
This past summer, until Lebron/CA/Bosh made their decisions, all the FA's had to wait it out, same philosophy
Spur's will have only 3 days to acquire talent and keep Kawaii Leanard
They will try to go after Marc Gasol and may be be able to keep Danny Green in the process *who is the leads the league in SHOT BLOCKS at a Guard* and provides steals and % 3pt shot's every game with HIGH IQ*
It isn't a given for GS to match given their payroll
And if they do match, they likely will trade their 1st rounder to get rid of David Lee and possibly other talents like Speights *team option* in which I would not have a problem doing with FA to build for our future, which basically forces CA to reconsider waiving his no trade clause which I believe would make us a better all round team with more flexiblity
As for Butler/Chicago, I would not be surprised if they decided to keep Butler and possibly trade D Rose as they have always been cheap
I totally expect to have another full amnesty to utilize after the 2017 negatations as it would benefit players and teams so both would agree
For players, they can get paid in full while earning another contract in the process, and for teams, they can get rid of payrolls and retool/saving time/money
This is where I DO NOT WANT TO STRETCH Calderon, as there is also a possiblity for trading him especially as his contract goes closer to an expiring
For example, if Durant said he is going to NYK *as CA should have and we would not have overpayed for him* and will not sign an extension anywhere else, OKC has to take back Calderon to match salaries
And on top of it, we can take contracts back if a team wants to overpay to get rid of a contract like Lakers did with Lin, Philly has done, etc....
So if we do get assets as a result of taking longer contracts, we could pay our way to acquiring talent and speeding up our ability to rebuild, while targetting many FA's in 2017 and focusing on our development/collecting assets till then.....
We can still acquire talents without overpaying that we would have leverage over with team options or longer term deals for security, whichever is better with our flexiblity moving forward
So even if we DO NOT win the bids, those are the reasons I would offer them a contract if they were willing to sign it
The talents that actually are considering NYK's will wait it out to see what happens, as it is only 3 days regardless, especially if we let their agents know that we have interest
