Lopez is a free agent, Aldridge is a free agent, Wesley is a free agent. How can they pay all 3? The arguement is the owner is filthy rich and will over pay. OK fine. That team isn't going to get better what you see is what you get.

The west is a beast and it makes it hard to make the playoffs even if you are well above .500...

Aldridge demanded a trade and then too it back once they started winning. He wants recognition. He can't get that getting bumped every year in the first round of the playoffs. That's their fate regardless how good anyone thinks Lillard is.

what if someone over pays lopez? What if Wesley leaves? What if Aldridge leaves? It doesn't have to be to the Knicks.

Why isn't this ot? Because the Knicks are in a possible better situation then they are going forward. They are winning now but they could lose their whole roster next season just about.

I love the knicks but in fairness we have been hearing the same thing 15 years with little results. I agree portland may have trouble next year but right now they are a real good team

Paul Allen the owner in the past has gone way over the cap to fund contending teams. Dudes a billionaire and DGAF.

This isn't the exact same situation as the last 15 years. I think this current Knick situation is different in that there is a clear philosophy and one direction. When we had Walsh and MDA the direction seemed clear but it wasn't. Walsh wasn't in 100% control and the interference of Dolan completely screwed any chance of a coherent plan to build a winning team. They never put together a team that made sense for MDA and Dolan undermined Walsh and then Grunwald. It seems to me that this time things should be different.

Having our 1st rd pick is huge at this point. It allows us to actually have a shot at bringing in a talent who can be part of our new core. Also since Phil has in fact been trying to develop young players and making use of the D League it means the process is off to a good start in terms of changing this franchise into a more comprehensive organization. Draft, Player development and Free Agent Cap Space are all in good shape.

there is not one single franchise in the league today that I would not trade everything to be.

Portland may end up in a trap - but they could still leverage any of those players in S&Ts, they have all their own draft picks, and they're winning right now.

The Knicks were mismanaged for years people. It is demoralizing.

we probably should be more concerned for our own team since the past 15 years havent been pretty

My point is everyone likes to keep talking about the last 15 years, but we are set up to really turn this around. A team like portland is possibly on their way down just as fast.

All of their best players are under 30 years old. LaMarcus Aldridge has stated multiple times that he's going to resign in Portland he's just waiting until the Summer so he can get a 5 year extension, if he signs now he can only get a 4 year. Paul Allen is one of the richest people in the world and Portland has the Bird rights for both Matthews and Lopez; unless someone massively overpays for them, like max contract overpays, Portland should be considered the favorites to resign them.

Absolutely but we haven't reached the point in Phil's run where we made a huge mistake. We're in fanatic shape and it seems Dolan isn't meddling. There has to be positivity from that. Phil is cleaning up and setting things up.

You are right but why are we always just doomed and other teams aren't. Portland and the Knicks ate at the same crossroads this off season. We have to see what happens but I want to be just as positive as a portland fan.

still dont see what portland has to do with us. They are a good team but i could care less if they retain players. Knicks have a shitload of work to do before we even sniff the playoffs hopefully phil does it

Well there have been plenty of teams that have turned around pretty quickly. The D'antoni suns.... the jason kidd nets.....the spurs when they drafted duncan.

The Knicks can be right there. We have the foundation and the resources to make it happen.

Because those other teams don't have Dolan, we do. Portland isn't on pace to win 14 games this year, we are. That's nice that you want to be as positive as a Portland fan but the rest of us realize that we've already set the Knicks record for losses in a row, we're going to set the record for losses in a season, and there isn't a fanbase in the league that would switch places with us.
