Can't do that. Teams aren't allowed to combine trade exceptions and players in the same trade.

Hmm--we could simply wait until the end of the year and absorb him with cap space with Hardaway going back there. If Minnesota is rebuilding with all young players--that a pretty nice trade for them---getting rid of 5.7mm in cap and adding Hardaway. For us--its like getting K mart for 2 years 13mm which is good value.
If we can get a top post player from this draft and then line it up with pros like Martin Melo Dragic a few 7 footers a good back up PG some additional 3 pt shooting a couple of scrappy players and additional depth we could be really good again by next year---I really do.
I wouldn't mind it if Calderon was gone. However, minny seems to like Martin.

Yes I want to get rid of Calderon#$
I think we could attempt to get Martin--either before the deadline or after the year. Minnesota is fully rebuilding and has a SG(Wiggins) Hardaway would be a nice piece to put next to Wiggins on a young team. Martin would give us a cheap 7mm 20 point SG who will help make us better right away.
Im not big on trades but if I could get Martin by giving up Hardaway--I would do it. Hardaway's upside is just a younger version of martin and he has a long way to get there. Im sure Melo will miss the 2nd half of the season and we can use Martin as his fill in.
Do we have a trade exemption big enough to fit 7mm?Couldnt we trade them Hardaway for a conditional 2nd rounder in one trade and take Martin with the exemption and a conditional 2nd rounder going back?
love the idea of pairing martin with melo, briggs. add in a top pick (hopefully a big man) and dragic (who you mentioned and i have been pining for) and i think you have a hell of a team. i think guys like galloway, jason smith, amundsun, thomas have shown they can be back of the rotation players for us. it'd be a great a start to build on, that's for sure.
Getting Kevin martin at his salary would be really good. The guy can't stay healthy though. Still would be fantastic to have a guy his caliber sitting out on the perimeter. His defense isn't horrible either.
Something to think about. It's the quality of player. Dude can score consistently. He can carry you at times. I think the triangle would put him in alot of spots to succeed.
This guy is just as injured as Amare, and he's defense is just as bad, he only played in 14 games this season in which their 4 and 10 in those games... you guys need to invest in league pass

While I've liked K=Martin over the years -- he's too old and too brittle for my tastes at this point.
If we are dealing with Minny -- we should probably be going for a guy like Thad Young who could play the role of Lamar Odom in our system.

He's spry--he has no leg issues and hes in great shape. I'm looking for a 2G that will cost 5-6mm per. If I give up Haradway for Martin--thats what it cost us. Now Im NOT a big fan of trading 23 for 32 but it's a big piece and I think this player with his build has 3 really good years left. If were going to make it work with melo--then we need to push it in some areas. K Mart fills a HUGE void--we havent had a player like that in years.
Thad Young is a good player but I cant pay him 10mm and he can opt out anyway. Way too much risk. I have built in cost and flexibility with Martin. Hes locked for 2 more years at a great price.

You can never have enough injury prone SG who don't play defense
Seriously though- he has a bad injury history, and we know what happens when we get injury prone players

I really liked McDyess

We got two totally dominating preseason games out of him.

If we obtained a fleet of big men another quality guard to go with him--hed be just as good as he was with Oklahoma--where he played 70 games 2 years ago. You have a 20 point post player a 25 point SF a 17 point PG Martin main job would be to spread the flor and hit hots at 6-7 I wathc ed him again for parts last night--hes more than good enough--actually he still plays like a stud. Im not buying a guy off of knee surgery he broke his off wrist. Tim Hardaway for him is fair IF Minny would do it.
I agree
