There's a lot of space between us and a championship level team. That space is filled by every team in the league except Minnesota actually.
Good luck in closing that gap if you're only willing to give a gm 6 months, no cap space, no draft and a roster of players with zero value!
Who said that?
You keep posting as if you've given up on him or he's a disaster forever more- sorry if I've misunderstood your views, but you've been coming across as if you want him gone.

The Media and some fans who have bought into the media, is enjoying taking Phil down. They always made jokes but now with the Knicks losing they get to really pile on and attack Phil from all angles. Add the fact that it's the Knicks and it just makes it even sweeter for the media who love to diss the Knicks.
Let them have their fun. It doesn't really mean anything in the overall scheme of things. Phil will have ample opportunity to determine his legacy in NY. He's gonna have a pretty clean slate now to build this thing up and take it from there. I'd rather be Phil with the Knicks than Billy King with the Nets.
Heck all those teams that between the Knicks and a title contender aren't necessarily in a good position regardless of record. At least with the Knicks we finally aren't hovering in that mediocre spot with no chance to improve. We're not locked into a ton of contracts anymore. Some complain about Melo's cap number but that isn't really a problem when you think about it. He's just one less piece of the starting lineup to have to worry about. Phil has 4 more spots to fill and a 1st rd. pick plus $30 mil to do it. If he's smart he should be able to come away with a solid roster.

Yes, you've misunderstood what I've said. I evaluate decisions that have been made. I don't know what Phil will do in the future.

You don't get away in NY with turning a .500 team into a .200 team. He helped lower the bar a lot though. If he merely brings us back to .500 next year, he'll probably be getting praise.
The NY media is by far the dumbest media around. We were once known as the city for sport, but this dumb media is really destroying us. None of these "so called" experts probably have never played sports in their lives, but they claim to know WTF they are talking about.
Reality is there is no guaranty of any of this working. Just seems that starphuching patchwork and slick suited coaches with nice speech's is what some want.
At this point in time, this moment with limited resources of picks the next two years and not basis of developement of players on the roster, Phil is doing the right thing for the long term.
Whats the assumption, Calipari can do it? With what?
Regarding the Triangle, If it won't work, at least we'll have better basketball players on the court.
Woodson did well with what he had. Nobody could see that becuase he adapted to the team.
That still don't get you in the playoffs cuz the roster was not that good!!!
What else? THink Kyle Lowrey would have us in first place? Toronto has a better team. We don't.
What else? Fish could have done a better job? Maybe. Yelled more? Maybe.
Phil too old? Hes not playing is he? Isiah went to europ and came home with nice suits. Not players. Old man Donnie in his wheel chair smuggled Mozgov here under everyone's noses.
Lets rebuild the roster as we go along.

I would limit this to the writers. The talkshow ESPN/WFAN guys are generally good, fair and give solid interviews. The beat guys are a total joke. Splat could cover the Knicks better. They write nothing of substance. NOTHING.
I also think the impact on players is grossly overrated. There are a lot of distractions in NYC (see JR) for players who are distractable but who really cares. Go play.

yeah - the writers are pretty awful. I have not seen a single article from them that actually had any insight.
I feel like we can all teach them a lot about the game and the knicks.
I do respect other articles outside of our local tabloids like the article in regards to shot selection and efficiency that I posted yesterday. The writer actually put a lot of brains and work into it.

People like drama and like to be haters.
I did not like Jax as a Bull or Laker but always respected him because he won two rings as Knick.
I think the system will work with the right players. The fact that they are in games with the roster they have now, indicates that adding some talent will get them to the right level. Its not about superstars. Its about IQ players who play for team and not for self. It seems as though those are the players Jax is going after. The fact that he admitted that his plan has failed so far is great as it shows his humility and smarts.
Its funny that the only ones who believe that this system will work is Jackson and die hard / desperate knick fans.
"The system with work with the right players" — I wonder what will be the signs that it is working? A return to the playoffs before his contract is up?
Many have held a "Finals or Bust" / "8th seed ain't shit" mentality on these boards. I'm not one of them. I'm dying for an Atlantic Division banner!
We get that or a second-round appearance before the five years are up, maybe we can look back fondly on the day Phil signed up.
But still what would it take to make him that much better than his last few predecessors?
The man gives good interview, that's for sure.

And Luke Walton just quoted that GS runs a lot of triangle under Kerr, just not soley. I totally disagree here. What do you think the triangle is? Its arcane? Its simply a spacing system. Te complexity is in the 5 moving parts. Less "arcane" systems like the P&R rely on the 2 man game so if your not picking or rolling your standing in a spot waiting for the ball.
Phucks sakes its hoops... not linear algebra. So yea.. its a lot on the coaching staff to train everyone in the new system and the problem is there isnt a way to dummy it down. Everyone needs to know everything, as opposed to your 2 man system which will have 2-3 guys with much simplier roles.

Aren't you a diehard Knicks fan? How do you know others are desperate just cuz they think the system can work?
It's mostly about the talent on the team and how it all works together. Also like any system it can be tweaked and already has been this year. At a certain point tho you need talent to get the best results. Adding better talent is the entire point of this off season.
I'm hoping Phil will do as he's suggested in looking to find high level defensive players who can also run the offensive system. I think that's going to be the ultimate key to building a contender. If he can land a Towns or Stein that would really be a positive for the interior D. Should be real interesting to see what happens.

I am cool with a modified triangle, or some semblance of triangular offense. Heck its not just Golden State, every runs some of these types of sets. Many of them were run before Tex Winters as well.
Most NBA brains believe that a pure triangle does not necessarily maximize efficiency to where it could compete with the PnR / spread offense which would maximize spacing a bit better and will lead to more efficient shots.

Excellent post!!! Kerr is smart using MDA, Pop and PJax influences with a ready made roster. IMO the Triangle can take less time to implement when you have more talent and high BB IQ players to begin with. However, it still will take some time to develop the chemistry. Right now the least we have to worry about is the system. Phil has to get this roster right 1st and foremost.

Of course it "can" work, we just need all world personel in here that can compensate for the inefficiency of the offensive schemes.
I am a Die hard knick fan, I also try not to be blinded by it.
Why is it that most don't believe in this triangle? If it was so great, then there would be more buy in. Its not politics, its realism and mathematics.
I keep an open mind, find me an article that vouches for its efficiency in modern day basketball, I would love to read it. I would also love to hear what Phil has to say about the subject, and not in Zen speak but in actual numbers.

Best writer at the moment is Chris herring from the Wall Street journal, surprisingly. He's funny without being nasty and doesn't have an agenda.
