The Media and some fans who have bought into the media, is enjoying taking Phil down. They always made jokes but now with the Knicks losing they get to really pile on and attack Phil from all angles. Add the fact that it's the Knicks and it just makes it even sweeter for the media who love to diss the Knicks.
Let them have their fun. It doesn't really mean anything in the overall scheme of things. Phil will have ample opportunity to determine his legacy in NY. He's gonna have a pretty clean slate now to build this thing up and take it from there. I'd rather be Phil with the Knicks than Billy King with the Nets.
Heck all those teams that between the Knicks and a title contender aren't necessarily in a good position regardless of record. At least with the Knicks we finally aren't hovering in that mediocre spot with no chance to improve. We're not locked into a ton of contracts anymore. Some complain about Melo's cap number but that isn't really a problem when you think about it. He's just one less piece of the starting lineup to have to worry about. Phil has 4 more spots to fill and a 1st rd. pick plus $30 mil to do it. If he's smart he should be able to come away with a solid roster.

Reality is there is no guaranty of any of this working. Just seems that starphuching patchwork and slick suited coaches with nice speech's is what some want.
At this point in time, this moment with limited resources of picks the next two years and not basis of developement of players on the roster, Phil is doing the right thing for the long term.

I did not like Jax as a Bull or Laker but always respected him because he won two rings as Knick.
I think the system will work with the right players. The fact that they are in games with the roster they have now, indicates that adding some talent will get them to the right level. Its not about superstars. Its about IQ players who play for team and not for self. It seems as though those are the players Jax is going after. The fact that he admitted that his plan has failed so far is great as it shows his humility and smarts.

It's mostly about the talent on the team and how it all works together. Also like any system it can be tweaked and already has been this year. At a certain point tho you need talent to get the best results. Adding better talent is the entire point of this off season.
I'm hoping Phil will do as he's suggested in looking to find high level defensive players who can also run the offensive system. I think that's going to be the ultimate key to building a contender. If he can land a Towns or Stein that would really be a positive for the interior D. Should be real interesting to see what happens.

I am cool with a modified triangle, or some semblance of triangular offense. Heck its not just Golden State, every runs some of these types of sets. Many of them were run before Tex Winters as well.
Most NBA brains believe that a pure triangle does not necessarily maximize efficiency to where it could compete with the PnR / spread offense which would maximize spacing a bit better and will lead to more efficient shots.

Excellent post!!! Kerr is smart using MDA, Pop and PJax influences with a ready made roster. IMO the Triangle can take less time to implement when you have more talent and high BB IQ players to begin with. However, it still will take some time to develop the chemistry. Right now the least we have to worry about is the system. Phil has to get this roster right 1st and foremost.

Of course it "can" work, we just need all world personel in here that can compensate for the inefficiency of the offensive schemes.

Why is it that most don't believe in this triangle? If it was so great, then there would be more buy in. Its not politics, its realism and mathematics.
I keep an open mind, find me an article that vouches for its efficiency in modern day basketball, I would love to read it. I would also love to hear what Phil has to say about the subject, and not in Zen speak but in actual numbers.
