They are NOT the same player

Could be why he said they are "kind of similar" maybe...

exactly

no, he was too weak mentally to make the most of his gifts. He still would have had to grow up. I mean, this is a guy who walked away from KG because he wanted to be THE man. Those two could have been lethal...

there was a book published in 2004 called "The Last Shot" by someone named darcy frey. it was a fascinating look at marbury and his family, and the author insinuates some damning things about marbury's father. nothing explicit, mind you, as that may have brought about a lawsuit. but still, the readers will glean plenty....

grantland did a story on this in 2014. nice follow up bits.

Anyone who thinks Marbury was even a good point guard needs to pay attention to the Larry Brown season and then after. Before that, Marbury relied solely on driving, pulling up and kicking the ball out on the doubles. Sure he could play pick and roll but that's bc it caused teams to double up on him and he was good at finding an open man. This is what helped him get 8 assists a night but that wasn't being a true point guard. When Larry Brown asked him to start initiating the offense and lead like a PG, he shut down. When Isiah (yak, cringe) said "i expect him to lead and defend from the PG position", he shut down even more.

Stephon Marbury was a scorer who just so happened to be the one to take the ball up the court. He was NOT a point guard.

And to further prove my point, he was slightly better, as I recall, at defending 2s than other PG.
