He is actually the perfect role player for this team if we don't land Millsap or another all-star type PF. He is tough, can defend the post, and is a good rebounder. On offense he is a good high-post shooter and passer, making him a great fit in the triangle. He is also on the younger side, only 26. I'll give him a mid-level contract and try to lock him up. He's the type that winning teams develop and can turn into a diamond in the rough. He has a kurt thomas look to him. We need to get a 2nd tier star next to melo, and draft the right player, but also need to locate a couple of these types of role players to round out the lineup.

Great post. I concur on Allen. Kurt Thomas/Marreese Speights -- that's who he reminds me of. I think he'd be a double/double guy as a starter or equally effective as a backup 4/5 off the bench. He's a younger glue guy that would fit nicely here. I think he'd be an upgrade over Jason Smith...I like that he's an UFA -- we should be able to take our time somewhat and work out a proper deal, not just automatically overbid like with some of these other FAs.
Hasn't played lately -- currently out with a knee problem. Anyone know the severity?
He's worth a look but I don't think he's a 14/10 guy like KT was in his prime. He's a bench guy. Locking him up should be far from our minds. If he's available we can find room for him if need be. He's on our short list but locking him up for a mid level type deal? That's the wrong mentality for where we are right now. Truth be told Lou Amundson is doing just fine in that grunt role. So is jason smith. We need to "lock in" someone better than this caliber of player

I think it's just a badly sprained ankle.

I agree, it has to come after the bigger names, but we also need to try and predict guys who can break out. He's a bench guy yes, but that's because he hasn't had an opportunity to start. Not saying he can be KT in his prime, but who knows what he can do with a larger role. Great teams find these guys and help them take the next step. With minutes, he could be a double double player.
