Rice is averaging 21 pts, 6 Rebs, and 4 assists in the d l. HE is the fourth ranked prospect in the dl and was MVP of the summer league. He is 6'6 with a 6'10 wingspan. The Knicks have recently sought players with character over talent. Maybe now that the locker room is better a guy like Rice could be brought in.

I've liked his size, athleticism and talent for some time, esp. at SG. Remember reading that he had some problems with coach Wittman in Washington that led to him not playing and then being waived.. Any potential red flags there? If not, the kid can play.
Meanwhile, Bryce Cotton continues to tear it up in the DL. Can't understand why he can't get a look. He's a tad small (I've seen smaller) and he's a scoring point (never a problem for me--the more players you feature that can put the ball in the hole, the better) but he's a decent enough floor general overall that's proven he can facilitate, get others involved and push the pace. I like Cotton a lot.

ive always been a fan of rice jr. dont know why they cant give him an opportunity...why not? nothing to lose
smackeddog@ 2/14/2015 3:34 AM
The problem is, he keeps having the same issue over and over again (attitude & arguments with his coaches). And I don't think he's that good to outweigh the negatives. I still think we need some more vets and leaders before we can start taking on players with attitude issues.
EnySpree@ 2/14/2015 5:13 AM
He's a small fwd. He doesn't have the handle to help on the perimeter or quickness to defend the 2.
With that said I bet he could come in and steal thjrs job from him.
As a rookie, you just don't get into fights with coaches. He's not a guaranteed player. Coaches and teams won't give a guy like that too many chances.
EnySpree@ 2/14/2015 5:19 AM
Dude plays just like his dad. He might even end up with the same knee issues because he walks exactly the same. Dude is a natural scorer. He can shoot the lights out. This guy should have been a 1st round pick. Still his issues with his his attitude is going to kill him. He knows he can score on anyone, but you have 4 other guys out there. He's not in a position where he can demand anything.

I thought he was a better prospect than Potter coming out the summer league. But Potter is smart and is used to playing in a disciplined system coming out of Georgetown. Rice still thinks his D-League BS is good enough for the pros.

Beggars can't be choosers man. We lost 2 big 2Gs in Shump and JR. Along with THJ stinking up the joint, we need to starting thinking about overhauling our 2G spot for next year asap. This guy's one inexpensive option with good upside. I think he could be a better player than Shumpert and Hardaway Jr. with some more refinement. As good a shooter (probably better) with a much better game off the dribble than either of those guys...There are many similar talents out there -- Orlando Johnson, Kevin Murphy... I think we could be OK at this position going with guys like these. I wanna see them use the draft and spend the bulk of their FA money upgrading the entire frontcourt and at PG.

I thought highlight videos were supposed to impress you? I don't think I was ever so unimpressed in a highlight video. 3 of those shots were luck and shots I if I was a coach would never want to see being taken in a game. That alley oop lob sucked too.

He just had a game recently where he hit 8 threes. I think the talent is there. It is his character that is the concern.

First thing I thought. There is a good chance we can move a contract and or get assets for Timmy and yet have a potentially better replacement right here. (Comes down to him trying to turn a corner as that like Cousins has (some.) One semi-bad boy on our team is ok. eheheh Actually, being he has that pedigree and that he is very young, I really think in 2 or 3 years the kid adjusts and this is no longer a problem. But that's imo.
edit - Do wonder what happens once we buy out Stat with that open roster spot.

He may have potential, but Willie Green and Dana Barros once scored 50 points in a game. I admittedly have barely seen this kid play. I was just commenting on the "highlight" video. But a highlight video for an 18 point performance is pointless to me and it's more pointless when the subject of said video doesn'tdoesn't look like a freakin' all star, which he didn't.

If there's one big issue with this dude, it's shot selection. His shot selection is terrible. I was looking at a video this morning where he took consecutive 30 footers. Made both of them but they were terrible shots. Unless the shot clock was running down (I couldn't tell), you don't take shots like that. He's in the DL -- they gotta be telling him that down there. After the first one, he should've been pulled and talked to. That sort of thing...But like Crush is saying -- he hit 8 3s in a game. He had a game in summer league where he lit it up for 34 pts. He hit both of those 30 footers I saw in a DL game... There's talent there. Can he be coached up to the point where he can recognize a good shot from a bad one? And can he matured to the point where he won't be talking junk to his own coaches about this or that? When you're a young guy hanging on by your fingernails, you shut your mouth and play ball--otherwise, you'll never make the NBA. Pack your bags and get ready for the next plane out to China -- over 7000 miles away from everything you know -- your friends, family... Kinda crazy -- this kid was dismissed from school because of an off-the-court issue that cost him 1st round money. Lucky he was drafted at all. Then he gets waived by Washington...Gotta learn from these things. Has he? Maturity and shot selection are the two main issues. If he can improve in both areas (the two easiest things anyone can improve upon when you think about it), he's an NBA player.

I have a tough time believing the Knicks would give away Shump to trade JR, only to bring Glen Rice here. I don't see it happening now anyway. The kid has a lot to prove before any team gives him shot.

Hell no. Mental and attitude issues are not what we need here
LivingLegend@ 2/14/2015 6:00 PM
I love the talent but this kid really seems to be downer - doesn't seem like an upbeat guy.
