Generous of him or was it just negotiation? Amare was probably dying to get out of here and we insisted that he give some money back

Seems like a very amicable parting and as I posted earlier I would not be surprised if Amare has a future in NY after his playing career.
“Everyone here at the Knicks organization appreciates the contribution Amar’e has made to the team and the entire City of New York over the past five seasons,” Knicks General Manager Steve Mills said. “We have developed a relationship that has translated into a long-term friendship, and it will continue through the remainder of his NBA career, and beyond.”“I feel truly blessed to have been able to play for the incredible New York fans, Mr. Dolan, my coaches, teammates and the entire Knicks organization for the past five years,” Stoudemire said. “I will be forever grateful for the opportunity to contribute positively on the court and in the community. Although I leave the Knicks with a heavy heart, I wish the organization the best of luck. Once a Knick always a Knick

The standard practice is deduct what he would get as a veteran minimum player (I guess a bit over $1mil?), and then likely he gave a few hundred thousand back as a courtesy. Teams rarely play hard ball in these buyout situation, where the player is a vet with a good attitude.
I think Ben Gordon got hardball last year and as a result couldn't sign with a playoff team because he wouldn't give up a cent. Also that defensive SG who used to be on the suns- again his team (the Jazz I think) decided since he wouldn't leave a cent on the table, they refused to buy him out.

good guy to have here, positive person but just not that smart.
He is probably a gym rat so maybe he can help (melo) with strength and conditioning.

If he didn't help Melo with strength and conditioning when they were teammates for 4 years he's not going to be of any value in that regard in the future. Personally I don't think amare is intelligent, as evidenced by his goodbye poem, and would prefer he stay away from knicks management positions.
I don't want flakes like this guy around this team, bring in some basketball lifers.
Amare already taking shots at Knicks medical staff.
It sucks that Phil caved in to dolan on the medical staff. Might be the beginning of the end

your full of BS. No way Amare said those words. If you had incorporated "dominant self" into that it would have been believable
I heard it on the radio this morning. He complimented Dallas medical staff while taking a shot at the Knicks. I will have to find the exact quote later
