He misunderstood you, obviously.
The McGee analogy is on target, and in Lee you are talking about a talented player with good character who already knows how to play in the NYC market.
He is also a good fit for our offense- passes well, moves without the ball, and he can hit the midrange shot.
Just wish he could play some D.

I don't think there is a price tag its what the open market is willing to pay. Right now with philly they've boxed in the market teams will go there first for us we would need maximum compensation

You guys are both right. The difference with Lin was that he was only an 8 mil cap hit. Lee's deal is an extra 7 mil on the cap which would really limit what the Knicks could do in free agency. If you the Knicks organization were to sacrifice most of their cap space this offseason the compensation Briggs is proposing seems fair.

8 mil cap hit but that only matters in terms of free agent cap room. We're talking about home much teams have to pay for picks, right? The Lakers have to pay Lin's entire 15 mil salary.

In this scenario, giving up 15 mil in cap space pretty much takes the Knicks out of the free agent picture. Giving up 8 mil would leave them with around 12 mil. For the Knicks to give up double the cap space the lakers did would be a mistake for one pick.

I agree with this analysis. The weakness on D is the hardest part to swallow again, but I would take him back for the year in contemplation of the 2016 offseason.

Briggs, I think you need the reading lesson - or a writing one. It clearly says Trade a protected 10156, 2018 1st & a 2nd for Lee. That's as crazy as getting a 1st & 2 2nds for him!
Ive thought about this before--we know that GS wants to resign D Green and will do that. If we traded for Lee(he has 1 year left on his contract) for a 2016 and 2018 lottery protected number 1 and a 2017 2nd rounder--that would be beneficial for both sides. We could use Lee's play plus his demeanor character for atleast 1 year(and maybe he stays with us for cheap like KG is doing for Minnesota) My guess is we draft atelast two bigs. D lee is a great guy to show them the ropes while he plays hard for us--whether off the bench getting 25 minutes or even as a starter getting 32.
We have to acknowledge this is NOT a 1 year rebuild that "potential" draft pick moves using salary cap space for our position is likely a reality and necessity. I believe STRONGLY that we can be a playoff team or atleast competitive for the playoffs next year while we rebuild--but we need 2-3 years of this. But we have to be opportunistic and calculating along the way. No to Greg Monroe yes to David Lee and picks.
