Knicks · Bobby Portis new #3 in the draft (page 2)

NardDogNation @ 2/26/2015 12:59 PM
We need Portis in addition to Okafor/a top draft pick, not over a top draft pick. The guy looks like a perfect compliment to Melo and his deficiencies and should fit in the triangle. From what I've seen, Portis can defend either forward spot well, which can allow us to hide Melo better on defense. And he also has a jumper/floor spacing abilities that can open things up for Melo on offense. And he isn't a liability on the boards and can help us out in that capacity. Portis might just be the perfect glue guy for our personnel.

I watched him a number of times- I would say that his lateral movement on D is as good, and probably better than, most of the other bigs in this draft.

Still has to get a little stronger, but as you say, Portis would be a very good compliment if we were to have OK4 and Anthony on the front line.

Hopefully we learn a lot about both Portis and Towns on Saturday when their respective teams match up.

If there is any chance in hll that Portis would be available to us in the form of a 2nd pick--you dont want him to do that well in this game!

You should have started a "Portis S--ks" thread, then.

No chance in hell he makes it to the second round... you know this.

He reminds me of a Lamar Odom from a physical perspective. He can switch and cover 1-4's because of his length and footspeed. And in addition to that, he has an intriguing skillset.

Here is his 40 minute output

2014-15 Arkansas SEC 28 818 9.9 17.6 .564 9.4 16.6 .569 0.5 1.0 .476 3.8 4.9 .762 11.6 1.4 1.4 2.2 1.9 2.9 24.1

Not much difference other than Portis is a better shot blocker and a much better FT shooter. He certainly is not above Okafor--but for what this team needs--hes #3.

I'd like to see one other person who thought he had top 3 potential talent in feb2015 I didn't stay with him but my original thesis was on the spot. Chicago would not trade him for anyone not named towns right about now he's probably the 2 ranked rookie

Ummmmmmmmm he was talked about by many people for being picked anywhere from the top 7/8 to 20 in the draft. I'm wondering why all you were talking about was how we should of drafted J.Anderson all year until Portis started playing well and now you wanna talk about Portis but nothing of J.Anderson?? I think it would be easier to hear from you which players you didn't like in the draft cause you were all over the board around draft time?? If you like 20 of 30 players in the 1st round you're bound to get a few right. LOL And by the way i was also a big Portis fan around draft time but i'm not gonna run to a message board because i guessed right on a guy that had obvious talents coming out.

You guys have to watch Briggs.....he's clever with his player hopping skills. I was on record saying this draft is a gold mind from 1-20.....There are solid players up and down this 1st round, including Portis and yes Grant. If free agency happened first, and we lost out on our top bigs, and had to settle on Rolo, Phil would've drafted Portis over Grant with the second pick and probably wouldn't have thrown all that money to Rolo. This is why free agency should come before the draft.

It's just hilarious to me the people that come on here and pat themselves on the back for saying a kid that was a beast in college and was a highly rated player in the draft was gonna be good in the NBA. It's like wow that's real impressive that you said a kid like that was gonna be good in the NBA. Hahahaha

WaltLongmire @ 1/3/2016 1:24 PM
You can revisit and do a redraft for a particular draft class every year and come up with a new order.

At some points this type of thing can become ridiculous.

This was a solid draft with some good depth, and certain players will rise and fall as their careers progress.

How many teams passed on Portis for this reason or that? A few years from now some of you will be talking about this or that player being passed over and how they were a "steal."

Where is all the talk now about Winslow, the "steal" of draft night? Good player who does a lot of things, but hardly a "steal" at this point. Same is true of Mudiay and Stanley Johnson.

Can things change down the road...sure, but who knows which players will emerge as the "best" players of a draft?

I was higher on Portis than most, but by the end of the college season, I expected him to be in the 10-20 range, and more likely in the middle teens and later.

Briggs even forgot to mention him in his final mock draft, although he did indicate his mistake, saying there was no way he would have left him out of the top 25 when he realized he had forgotten to include him.

7/28/2015 2:17 PM LAST EDITED: 7/28/2015 2:45 PM

Just looking back--not terrible. I flipped out Turner and kaminsky--had Turner 6 and Kaminsky 8 and flip flopped them 1 more time would put turner top 3 with a redo. Was somewhat right on Justice Winslow dropping--had Stanley Johnson to low. Actually had Grant 19. According to the mock I laid out taking BPA per position of need we would had

4 Porzingis
19 Andersen
35 Powell

One omission looking back--forgot Bobby Portis on the last cut--no way I wouldve left him out of the top 25.

That's "top 25," not "top 5," by the way.

Have not played 40 games into the season and we seem to be reevaluating the draft every 10 games, or so.

Kind of crazy.
