Leonard Nimoy dead at 83- congestive heart failure.
For Baby Boomers like myself, especially someone who loved Science Fiction, the original Star Trek series is like an old chair you love to sit in even though it is showing its age and is ragged looking.
Each episode was a morality tale, according to one of my college professors, who felt it could be used in the classroom.
Campy as hell, for me it is like the Honeymooners- I can watch it again and again and still enjoy it, and I've seen it enough so that it can play in the background while I am doing something and still know what is going on.
I know Nimoy did some other things, including some attempts at a form of music, but for my generation he will always be known as Spock, the Vulcan god of logic.
So it goes.
ah man. Very sad. An icon of my childhood (70s). I remember every Sunday night was family taco night and we would watch the Star Trek reruns. It was great. The one night we could eat in front of the TV.

Very sad I grew up on Star Trek as a kid and even today watch when I can. Sad news.
Ouch he was one cool guy.
Also grew up on Star Trek, my favorite show back when I was a kid. Spock was one of the all time great TV characters, not many actors could have given this character such weight. Rest in Peace Leonard Nimoy.

Whoa that's sad indeed. Star Trek was a huge part of my childhood. Watched every episode many times. Nimoy's character (Spock) inspired me to think, to pursue Mathematics and Philosophy in college, and to place reason above all else.
RIP Spock.

LOVED Stark Trek and Nimoy was a Titan of Sci Fi, which I love along with all Fantasy and Comics. I never got tired of watching reruns of Star Trek and the movies. He was still a part of the genre and did some good work in the New Star Trek and other Sci Fi TV shows like Fringe.

Ha, I just rewatched the original series recently- every episode was either:
A) the enterprise encounters an alien with godlike powers
B) the enterprise encounters a planet like historical earth
C) spock/ sulu / McCoy/ kirk loses his shit!

Hmmm... not sure where the Tribble episode would fit in with your analysis of the show's plots.
R.I.P. - loved him on Star Trek, he will be missed. Really appreciated his last tweet, very true words about life.

I'm a pretty big Star Trek guy -- the original series and the movies 1-4 & 6 are all awesome. Nimoy actually directed Star Trek III & IV, 2 of the most enjoyable and underrated sci-fi movies to date. Just introduced my 6-year-old to all the Star Wars movies -- we just watched them all, from Phantom Menace all the way up to Jedi -- now we're all set for the new flick when it comes out. Star Trek will be next...He was actually watching a little Wrath of Kahn with me a few weeks back and was into it! LOL I think he'll like Star Trek...
I also love all the old "In Search Of" episodes narrated by Nimoy. You can still catch 'em all on youtube... RIP. Huge loss..One of the greats!
