I think that's the point. There is no supply on PGs right now. So for me, before you draft big, maybe you make sure you have a PG under contract. Just cause you want him doesn't mean he signs.

Post player first. That's a no brained. If Phil Jackson wants to win games hell sign Williams. There really is no one else the nice thing is that the cost will still be reasonable

Williams is 32- he's a backup at this point. Won't add many wins.

Last year mo Williams averaged under 10 points per game in 25 mpg, so you are getting more offense but not a tremendous amount. My point was you are bringing in Williams to do similar to what Calderon does, just with some more scoring output. Weaknesses are similar. But for the record I like him and think he would be a nice addition.

Yeah overall he would be a nice addition. Would need a lockdown defender at the 2 though.

One thing you have to consider with Williams, with the exception of this year and last year, he has only played about 50 games per year due to injury. so are you willing to take a chance on him being healthy for a full season, when he has a history of missing 25-30 games each season? Who knows, maybe last year and this year are the rule, not the exception, but we don't want too many players who have a history of missing a lot of games.

Player has good month in contract year rarely ends well once they're given a fat check

I get the weakness part. The scoring is different because Mo can actually take over games for stints with his scoring. He's having a throwback year with Charlotte right now. Calderón sites withing the offense and never really scored much more than that. He totally forgot how to take it to the basket. Mo williams still can that at a fairly high level. Mo has also shown that he doesn't need a transition period to get his game going. He's been a journey man the last few seasons and hasn't missed a beat
If they were able to trade Calderon then Mo Williams would be nice but to cut Calderon and use that money on him wouldn't be that smart imo.
If we're looking at a stretch 4 in FA, Jerebko
is a dude I'd be chasing if the Celtics don't retain him.
I've been following him for the past few weeks since the trade
and I like what he brings to the table.
In my opinion,
I wouldn't mind bring in Mo Williams for a cap friendly deal or if we pay a bit more, a 1year or 2ndyear (team option deal)but not at the cost of stretching Calderon
I guess it depends on the role we want from Williams, if we are drafting a young PG like Russell and for Mo Williams to play a leadership/vetran role or if we can acquire another young PG to work with in addition to what we have with Galloway/Shved *if we keep him, would not keep him with the qualifing offer though but would offer him a contract that is less*
As a backup, I wouldn't be opposed be keeping Larkin either
If the role you want for Mo Williams for his ability to score/shoot, another cheap player could be Gary Neal who is a combo/shooting PG, that is younger and played with Poppavich for a couple of years
A player to replace JR Smith's old role for instinct OFFENSE, would be looking in the 2-3m price range
If you want a VETERAN, Andre Miller could also work and provide leadership/mentor role and POST UP, as one of the OLD SCHOOL pass first PG's
Mo Williams another 21-9 tonight with 1 turnover. Hes 8-2 as a starter and the Hornets are now in the 7th seed.

Again you can cut Calderon and stretch his two years into 5. That gains us 4.4 and 4.6mm the next two years in cap space. Id assume to pay Williams 6.5 mm per for 2 years.

I wasn't saying no post player -- but I can fill the pivot easier through FA than the PG. If you draft Towns and Williams re-signs in Charlotte, who is your PG next year? If you draft Russell or Mudiay, you have 5 or 6 options at PF and 4 or 5 at Center...
I'm not anti-Towns...I just think that the flurry of deadline trades of all top RFA PGs makes the supply rather short. If you can lock up Miller or any other decent PG, Towns is a no-brainer. Hell you get Miller and Midleton, Towns looks amazing. I am just saying the big man pool is a lot deeper than the backcourt shallow end.

Can you use 5 years if your player will be over 36 before the contract ends? Contract years after 36 are added back to the front of the contract pursuant to the over 36 rule. So, his two remaining years (2015 and 2016) would get spread over 5, but the over-36 years (he is over 36 in 2016) would then get frontloaded, no?
I like your idea of Mo Williams on a two-year deal, Briggs.
He seems to be the pick of the litter of the remaining point guards
at this time.
