Knicks · Miller,Barkley, webber don't think free agents will come to knicks (page 2)

On a side note, it is too bad that something can't be done to even the playing field with state income tax. It seems like it is more of a topic for nfl free agents but it is an issue in the nba as well.No way Aldridge or Gasoline leave, but Love wouldn't surprise me.
My issues are: it's nothing to do with the knicks- most free agents will stay with their teams because they like playing for those teams. Overpaying has always been the only shot at getting players to leave. Why make it a thing about the knicks? We're not the centre of the universe.
Also Phil is going to get blasted, but I don't see how it's his fault- most of the free agents are off the menu because they're happy where they are and can get payed more or are restricted- what's he supposed to do?

We may get a player to come here if we make another stupid Amare type move to make us relevant again.
Amare will be a free agent again so we might get lucky twice
maybe he can ReRelevant us.
Is that like in Re-Animator where he dunks his own head?
Didn't T Chandler do that last year to cost us a potential game winner in one game?

Sure, Love is the only one of the three that seems even possible. But Love is kind of a disaster next to Melo don't you think? Gasol would be amazing, but not gonna happen. A Melo-Love frontcourt sounds like an invitation to a beheading. Teams would slice through the Knicks like butter. Maybe Thanasis could start and be your Ibaka component, but it seems like the Knicks pretty much have no choice but to secure the services of a defensive big as a starter as long as Melo is a starter. (Probably get another circle jerk comment now).

I do agree with this 100 %, but for miller, webber and Barkley all knick haters to say New York Knicks are not desirable in the Mecca of basketball is dead wrong... Next year is a clean slate with melo, jose, thjr, early the only guys under contract we are going to have a completely new team next year .. To think we are not going to be a top team in the east next year! Com on man
FistOfOakley wrote:i am in complete agreement... we are lucking out with free agents like dragic probably signing with the heat and matthews getting hurt... we just have to avoid the big signings like monroe... harris remains the only intriguing option but i'm not too sold on max money for him either... but if we want him he's the one that will come...
I have cooled on him some but he is so young and talented that he still intrigues me. I don't even think it will take the max to get him out of Orlando. I think $8-9m 3 yr contract with a trade kicker and opt out would get him out of Orlando. What I don't know is how much other teams want him and how competing teams might push that number up. $8-9M would be is to match but I doubt Orlando will take on the trade kicker and Tobias having refusal power of any trades. If they Draft Stanley Johnson or Winslow it would be a wrap.

There must be an Oingo Boingo song to accompany that
Just look at this current roster, a couple of weeks ago i saw something I thought i would never ever see in the NBA again, 5 WHITE GUYS ON THE SAME TEAM ON THE FLOOR AT THE SAME DAMN TIME, IN THIS DAY AGE, and I'm not making this a racial comment, because it was a white guy who pointed it out to me, but where have you seen such ridiculousness.
Every time i here Fisher talk about going out their and try to find a way to win, i want spit in his face. Your not winning any games with this pure trash of a roster, your not enticing anyone to come here with this slow down 1990's flow, you can't coach worth a lick, especially with this fck up roster that would barely make a the cut at ymca.
I can't even enjoy the NBA because my team is the worst team in the entire league by a large margin, and I got a bunch of head scratching fools, who think they know more than 29 other teams.
Even when we struggled to win 33 games under ISiah, we still saw some exciting wins. We got kicked off every major network in the country, even NBA TV wouldn't come close.
Phils is going to end up putting more square headed stiffs that nobody else cared to sign, a few wild erratic d leaguers, and a few more cast offs, and then scream 2016, were preserving, were preserving.
I hope to god that I'm wrong, but history tells me I'm not. Players want to test Free agency, so they will do the melo thing and come out and enjoy the pampering, but why on earth would they give up winning and financial security to play for less money, to lose for the forseeable future, unless they are flat miserable, and their current team is acting shady.

That may be the first time 5 white guys have been on the floor at the same time in many decades. That is actually pretty strange.
And you know what I realized about Fisher the other day? He is soooo vanilla. I've grown to actually dislike hearing him talk he is so bland and generic. It is one thing to be struggling and finding your way, but I'd have a little more faith in their journey to competence if it actually sounded like somebody was home. He has been weirdly vacant and insipid.
You're right about free agency. Some guy today started a thread screaming about the indignities of saying this hallowed mecca of hoops has been besmirched by heathen unbelievers. It is unbelievable what a haze some fans live in. THIS IS NOT JUST THE WORST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE, IT IS THE WORST FRANCHISE BY A COUNTRY MILE. So, no, this is not a destination. It is a last resort when other options don't pan out. Anyone who says otherwise believes in unicorns and magic pumpkins.

So, I thought it might be illuminating for everyone to see exactly how bad we've been over the last 15 years. http://www.basketball-reference.com/ has a bunch of really cool tools that are perfect for this. What I found is that we're the 3rd worst team in the league over the last 15 years by W/L record. The only teams worse than us are Charlotte and Minnesota. And Minnesota's only has 3 more losses so there's a chance we could leapfrog them by the end of the season. Our overall record is 460-652. That's an average record of 34-48.

I figured we were down there somewhere. The real issue is the team is on the butt end of that ugly stick. If the averages over 15 years were in the rear view mirror, that'd be one thing, but this team is skidding along the bottom right now. For all the talk about having money to spend, it remains to be seen whether a cohesive team can be built. Even Minny and Charlotte have talent and assets. We're gutted.
guess we will have to go wizth Briggs plan and sign Rodney Stuckey. Maybe we can add Josh Smith too lol
They're talking analytics for sports and made fun of Barkley who has no respect for it. They showed a clip from tnt with shaq, Kenny, etc
So glad more people saw Barkley for the dumbass he is.
Steve Young NFL Hall of Famer talking on stage about predictive analytics now.

That make sense. He is young enough to grow through a long rebuild. If it's close between the Knicks and Celts I wonder if he will choose his hometown. Plus he gets a bonus from his shoe company if he lands in Ny, Chi, or LA. I just wouldn't send over $11m for him. He needs to make that leap on defense that Middleton did.

Your disdain for melo is similar to my disdain for fisher, only I don't dislike fisher for any other reason other that I think he's the worse coach in the league. He makes me miss woodson and thats saying a lot. I keep telling people that hiss plain vanilla conservative personality is a direct reflection of the style and energy the knicks play with.
Better talent will obviously get us a few extra wins, but talent still has to be well coached in order to have great success.
What phil has to ask himself, when the NYKs had major cap space in 2010, some decent young talent on the rise, walsh and MDA ( a proven president, a player friendly coach) the best they came away with was felton and Amare, in one of the biggest FA class in god knows how long.
Now you want KNICK FANS to believe that FA's will come flocking to play for a clueless coach, a over his head GM, in a system that is being run by a coaching staff that looks more suitable in the white house, than they do on the sidelines at a NBA arena.
The best thing phil can do is trade that pick for Gasol, or aldridge, and watch the flood gates open up, No one is coming here to play with some 19 yr old college freshman, and "MELO and the d leaguers" (sounds like a 50"s band)

I'm afraid you're right. The situation is not just about bottoming out, hence only way to go is up. As you say, even with additional talent, you still can't win if the coaching sucks. I feel like I'm rubbernecking a train wreck and I can't stop watching. What others have, that glimmer of hope, probably is why I remain still curious if something actually great happens.
But whereas others act like it is a foregone conclusion you can be successful if you add A + B + C, I'm pretty certain it is improbable. So it is just a curiosity about miracles that keeps me watching this chronicle of dysfunction. Can a miracle happen in spite of the level of incompetence of Phil, Fish and Dolan? The odds are soooo very small, yet I'm still sifting through the wreckage. I guess that is the curse that comes with following a team your whole life.

The Mavericks forward had some harsh words for his teammates following a 127-94 home thrashing doled out by LeBron James and the Cavaliers.
“I came here to win, and we’re [4½] games out of being out of the playoffs, which is unacceptable,” Stoudemire said, according to ESPN.com.
“This is something we can’t accept. We’ve got to find a way to refocus. We’ve got to key into the details of the game of basketball. We can’t cheat the game. We can’t screw around in games and practices and joke around all the time and figure we’re going to win games. This is the pros. It’s the highest level of basketball. We’ve got to act that way.”
