So many posters have him on top of their list and say that he is a good mid range shooter but he is terrible:
Taking a closer look at his shooting numbers, you can see that its not a pretty picture. I am sure that Phil wants a big with a strong mid range game and this is not the guy (at least he has not been that guy yet).
As you can see, outside of 3 feet, Monroe shoots less than 35%. Thats not bad, thats bloody awful.

You are picking apart one part of his game. You don't need someone who is great at everything to be successful in the triangle. He is a good fit in the triangle. He's a skilled big man and willing passer. Good scorer with space. I agree i overrated his shooting ability. So what? If he was a knock down shooter he would be unattainable because he would already be a star. He's a pretty complete player who is durable, young with upside, and unrestricted. Stop nitpicking, beggers can't be choosers. Knicks fans will always complain about players no matter what. Even LeBron, one of the most complete players ever, would have multiple threads about having no heart if he were a Knick. Adding Monroe would be a huge pickup for this team.

I think that you have to remember that you don't have to be a big that can hit from midrange as long as you have another player who can do that and the Knicks will have more than one big. Monroe would play more of the Shaq role in this offense IMO.

Tyson chandler could not shoot outside of 3 feet and we were not happy. And, at least he won DPOY for us. Monroe is a weak defender. This guy is too one dimensional.
I am sure that Phil will be smarter than this and of course will not go for a big man in the triangle offense who can't shoot outside with any consistency.
We can't be desperate and make moves that don't fit the puzzle and I am sure that we won't.
How does he stack with others?

He's high on my list, but because of the passing, size and rebounding. He's not going to be a rim protector.. he's a below the rim player, but he's very strong, excellent on the boards and has a nice set of moves in the paint.

Shaq couldn't shoot either but did immense damage in the paint. If you draft towns Monroe will at Shaq's role while Towns spreads the floor. Towns would play a Gasol role to BYNUM. At least until Towns is fully developed as a 20 something year old. They compliment each other beautifully. Towns is more of a rim protector as well.
If we draft ok4 than we need someone like Ajinca or Sanders protecting the rim whole ok4 does what Shaq and MONROE do.
If we draft Russell or Mudiay than you also try for MONROE.
If you draft Stein you try to get MONROE.
The beauty of MONROE is he fits with every player except OK4.
He's putting up 15 & 10 in the post as a young mid 20's kid.

will phil see him and think that he can turn his mid range game into a consistent one? Doubt it but who knows. The guy is unpredictable.

Monroe is no Tyson on offense lol. The fact that you are making that comparison shows you are way off here. He is far from one-dimensional. He is one of the better passing bigs in the game. He is playing out of position in Detriot. Would be a fantastic additional here. Big men who put up his numbers don't grow on trees. Again, you are nitpicking a single weakness and saying he is a terrible fit because of it. Not everyone in the offense needs to be a knockdown shooter. He would be excellent next to Towns for example. He's a low post scorer who can pass out of the high post and low post and create from key spots in the triangle. He's not a weak defender either. That's what you need from the center position. Think Shaq in this case, couldn't shoot at all, but low post scorer and good passer. Monroe is no Shaq, but he's not Tyson either.

I meant Tyson that he had no range. The problem is that Monroe thinks that he has range which makes it even worse.
I just don't see it but obviously who we draft can make some of a difference.

Horace Grant had a very nice jumper but Rodman never shot at all. What about the big white guys? Perdue/Longley/(I forget the other) but I dont remember any of those guys being used to stretch the offense. Cartwright had a baby jumper but I dont remember much beyond the paint from him either.
