If I have to read one more time that we didn't get any assets for Tyson i'm gonna lose it. We did get some value in those deals. We just didn't get a higher pick. Still Early, Thanasis wasn't terrible and we ended up with Acy based on that deal as well. No pick, no matter how high, is guaranteed to be successful and so you can't base it all on where we picked. The jury is very much still out on what Early and Thanasis will become. Felton's trade led to Shved. Using the Trade Exception we got for Felton.
Too much fixation on Calderon. That's not gonna stop us from doing what we need to do. At the time he was just taking a chance that he could add a solid vet. It's a relatively minimal risk given the rules on stretching players. We're only talking about one player. I think it was a reasonable risk. Nothing like the mistakes past GM's have done which screwed us forever.

Jr 6.5 million contract became a problem when we decided to use a system that took away from his strengths,and not putting solid vets around him and melo.. his 6'5 million contract looks like a bargain for cleveland.
Briggs if the best thing you can say phil did was save us from JR's (6th man of the yr) contract and putting him in a position to win a title light yrs ahead of the knicks, then you truly are grasping for staws, hey, and pillows.

I don't think JR was going to be successful in ny. I also don't think the big name free agents give up the extra year and extra cash they will get by staying with their current team. Getting a top pick should help the team for 10-12 years.

You think the plan was to destroy his trade value? They wanted to see if he could be a part of this going forward. He's a defensive guard and Phil thought he needed that and was willing to take a chance on our own player. Now in the end it didn't work out but you can understand the thought process.
I say so what to the whole thing. We've been thru far worse. The ship is headed in the right direction now. As long as Phil has a clear vision of how he wants to build the team he's got some means to make that happen. Not gonna cry over spilt milk now. He has the team in position to make a massive shift of culture and type of player. It's already begun but of course now you can't fully see it, but that's by design. We have to lose and bottom out.

Shumpert started every game for the Knicks this year when he was in ny. If his trade value dropped it is because there was a bigger sample size of his play post his knee injury. Also, Smith couldn't have been an easy guy to move.
He dumped ever asset we had for nothing, there are 8 other franchises in the league with roughly the same amount of cap space and have multiple draft picks to juggle. Two of those teams (phili and boston) are right in our division, both currently have much better talent, and much better head coaches.

How did grunwald with RELATIVELY THE SAME cap space Phil had, and build a team that went from a.545 winning pct to a .659 winning pct.

What your hoping for this summer is a HAIL MARY, just because you have a guy with a strong arm(aka MSG and a few dollars) but everyone knows that 9 out of 10 hail mary's get batted to the ground or intercepted.

A hail mary is praying that Lebron or Kobe (in his prime) is willing to sign here for the MLE cause we have mismanaged our way to zero cap space. A hail mary is praying that Westbrook falls to us in the draft, or Curry gets past GS. Neither happened. It is not a hail mary to tank and guaranty a top 3 pick. Will we get the BEST free agent? Prob not. But can Phil build a core for the next 4+ years -- 100%. And then you build a franchise...where is the hail mary in that?

The draft is a basically a hail mary and you know it, you can draft milic or melo, and when the person responsible for making that pick has no track record for ever picking a star player, why should I believe, it's more like I HOPE..

With so many bad moves you can clearly relate to the people that aren't has optimistic as some of you are. You may not 100% agree, but some part of you has to think, this guy really has done anything for me to really look forward to. Moves like this to garner optimistic feelings.

A hail mary is praying that Lebron or Kobe (in his prime) is willing to sign here for the MLE cause we have mismanaged our way to zero cap space. A hail mary is praying that Westbrook falls to us in the draft, or Curry gets past GS. Neither happened. It is not a hail mary to tank and guaranty a top 3 pick. Will we get the BEST free agent? Prob not. But can Phil build a core for the next 4+ years -- 100%. And then you build a franchise...where is the hail mary in that?
The draft is a basically a hail mary and you know it, you can draft milic or melo, and when the person responsible for making that pick has no track record for ever picking a star player, why should I believe, it's more like I HOPE..

We got the kid as a rookie free agent. Why does he have to be perfect and fully developed in year one? There's no penalty for finding useful rookies so why should you look down on that? He's shown some promise this year on both ends, which is not bad for kid we found outside of the draft.
Here's what I don't understand. Why are supposed Knick fans talking ish about our own prospects? What is your motivation to want to piss on our own rookies? You think the story is complete on kids like Early, Thanasis and Galloway? They're just getting started. In reference to Galloway, his shooting is only one aspect of the game. He's a good young prospect and could very well improve his shooting as MANY young guards have done.
