Knicks · Are Houston, Mills, and Warkenstein on the way out? (page 1)

Interesting article by Begley speculating about the possibility of a front office shake up. Mills definitely should be replaced.
gunsnewing @ 3/31/2015 8:18 PM
Hopefully Phil sees what we all see and gets some fresh blood in there. Maybe it will help us get some value on trades and not F up the draft. Knicks are terrible with lottery picks

If he puts the right staff together, guys who use the Spurs/Hawks model. Draft and develop cheap talent, sign the right FA's no starphuchs and win trades. That is how Phil can cement his legacy as player, coach, president and as the one who finally turned the Knicks around. He will get all the credit for putting it all together even if he's not hands on or on the bench. It ridiculous that he never got full autonomy from Dolan.

So it behooves him to try to do just that or give his best shot

smackeddog @ 3/31/2015 8:48 PM
If he's doing a shake up he should have done it a few months ago- why wait until either the start of the off-season (you need your front office team settled and in place for the draft and free agency) or, even worse, after you ever made your moves?
gunsnewing @ 3/31/2015 8:53 PM
Dolan

My guess is Phil put his foot down

nixluva @ 3/31/2015 9:44 PM
Let's slow down a bit. This article is only hinting that Phil might shake things up. He might also just add some guys to the staff. He might only fire one guy. To be honest he may do nothing cuz this is all just rumor. His last words were that he and his staff were all working day and night to improve the team. There's not a lot of time between now and the draft.
CrushAlot @ 3/31/2015 10:16 PM
I wonder if Mills or Houston will be running the Liberty soon.
gunsnewing @ 3/31/2015 10:20 PM
I thought Herb was coaching the liberty
gunsnewing @ 3/31/2015 10:21 PM
I see mills or h20 as president/GM
FistOfOakley @ 3/31/2015 10:32 PM
mills will probably leave for a league job... he was on his way there but dolan detoured him in order to keep the starphuch live... i honestly don't know why he's been hanging around unless he is actually running the day to day...

i hope phil doesn't just hire one of 'his guys'... i'd rather he look hard around the league... you need a guy who's tireless .. who thinks outside the box... and knows basketball but also appreciates what the numbers bring to the table...

Nalod @ 3/31/2015 11:18 PM
I see Mills as being the financial guy as president or GM. Never the basketball guy. Mills could bet promoted to MSG president overseeing more? d
I thought Warkenten was extended recently.
I see H20 as not sticking. I think Dolan just loves the guy and was hoping he'd be the GM. Just my "feeling".
Maybe the firing of Witted has something to it.
TPercy @ 3/31/2015 11:42 PM
We need a guy who
1) is hip about how the game is played nowadays
2) uses metrics
3) Has connections and ways of getting around in the league.
Knicks1969 @ 4/1/2015 7:36 PM
They all need to be fired
Nalod @ 4/1/2015 10:26 PM
and who is this magical mystical man?

Easy to fire, but who to hire? Should we give each just one year?

I don't know who the magical man is but I don't think Mills should be a part of the knick organization. Also, I am not sure what Houston does but apparently his responsibilities are less than before. I can't decide if Houston reminds me of Fredo or Herb but either way I think he needs to go.

I don't know who Phil should hire to replace them, but I believe its more than clear that we can do better. They have all been in this orgnization long enough to show that there are better options out there, has to be.

jrodmc @ 4/2/2015 7:56 AM
Would anyone but Houston, Mills and Warkenstein care? And Jimmie?

Warkentein, Gabriel, and now Gaines are experienced guys with various degrees of success. Mills is a bean counter so I would not worry about him. His savvy is in contracts and finance. When the Boss dictates the culture and the revolving door of GM's and Coach's it should be understandable to even the most emotional ignorant fan that there is plenty wrong with the organization.

To get to this point after a year of cleaning house its not the fault of any one exec but the accumulative actions of 15 years. You don't clean house after a 15 win season when the decision was to blow it the hell up was made a long time ago.

Granted, after a year on the job Phil with now first hand exposure to his exec he inherited decides based on philosophical compatibility I can understand.

For fans to want someone to blame for this and clean house is really just reactionary. This franchise at the end of last season had a core of Melo, A steep in decline FlueTyson, Shump and JR. Add oft injured Bargs and the pillars of the franchise is on a shaky foundation.

Phil should make changes but not because of assignment of blame, but to further employ his cultural revolution. Non believers should be replaced. Coach Witted was found wanting.

Phils inclusion as a knick exec should not be judged after 12 months, but really the ultimate grade will be when he is gone and the franchise having been modeled after his vision. Did we contend? Is the system producing coaches? Players? is the system still in place? Has it evolved? Macro evaluation, not "didn't get spit for Tyson" Micro grades.

Way too soon to label phil anything but "premature".

Its about performance. I see nothing to indicate that these men have done anything of consequence since first joining this organization. If Phil wants to change the culture, keeping the same people in place, Dolan's people, is going to make that very difficult. Its not about blame, its about finding the most talented people out there to help Phil reach his goal of winning a championship. These execs had plenty of time to prove what they can do for this franchise, time for some new blood.

all of them are worthless cronies.
