Knicks · Early looking like an NBA player (page 3)
nixluva wrote:Early had a bit of hesitancy early on and the injuries haven't helped. It held him back but now he's coming on which is great to see. Our young players have talent but you have to allow them to develop. It's so early in the process and if they were more NBA ready it's doubtful we would've been able to get them. So you have to be a bit more patient. These guys will hopefully show some more growth next year.
He was hesitant because Fisher was in the business of yanking guys out after every little mistake. Now that he doesn't have bodies to throw out there, he is forced to let guys play

Actually, his lack of play was due to his 'deer in the headlights' demeanour early on- Fish said in some post game comments a while ago about how players can chose to believe others are better than them if they want (I took it as a dig at Early). He needed to toughen up if he wanted playing time- throwing a player out there with zero confidence is usually disastrous- you need to take the slow approach has with them.

Thank God none of these guys are talent evaluators cuz you can't develop players if you lack patience. These young players aren't really costing the team much and they aren't high picks to begin with so you know they will need some time to develop. We've seen some very good signs from Early. He's looking more and more like the kid with talent and aggressiveness that we saw in college. Last night there was no hesitancy and he looked quick and athletic, which he always was but we forget he actually had surgery and injuries that set him back a couple of times. It was good to see him playing loose and aggressive. You know the Spurs spend multiple years developing guys. They don't always give up on players they believe in. That's why they seem to always have solid players coming in for them.
Did anyone say we can't?

It's the way the same people who insist we should have traded Melo for picks, are the least patient when it comes to developing players we end up picking- the tyson trade complainers act like Early and Thannasis don't exist.
So I should be elated we traded one of the best 5's in the league for 2nd round picks we could've bought?
newyorker4ever wrote:fishmike wrote:thank god.. I mean he's still a 2nd rounder he looked very good on both ends. Hit a big shot, made some good defensive plays, had a + stat line, moved the ball... fingers crossed
It's amazing how everyone expects a 2nd round pick that has gotten hardly no floor time to just be a great player from day 1.
I'm with you that i think the kid has promise and just needs actual floor/game time to get better which he hasn't got yet. He just needs to get the confidence in his play and his shot.
No one expects Early to be great right away, but he's been horrendous and he's already 24 so he's pretty physically mature. Much more so than any other rookie.

What, you're not elated that we drafted a 24 year old who looks like he doesn't belong in the NBA and a shot-blocking SG who can't shoot?

Clearly I must be crazy! It's not like talented, bench swingmen are not a dime a dozen.

Our young Swingmen are going to be costing us very little. If we can develop them and they end up being good players we've helped our cause to put together a good roster with limited resources. It's not a perfect situation but it appears that our kids are developing and they still have plenty of upside to develop further. What's wrong with that?

And we only had to trade one of the 5 best centers in the league to do it!
nixluva wrote:Anyway... It's been good to see Early coming along and not just him. We're gonna need our young prospects to develop and fit into roles for this team. It'll help save money for each young prospect we can develop into a real contributor for this team. We're gonna need that to happen as much as possible.
As far as I am concerned, there is a clear and concise reason why the Knicks have been so bad the last decades. When you place no value in player development, this is exactly the type of record you deserve. It takes time and patience to develop young talent; and, both the fans, the Media, as well as, the dumb owner have often shown the temerity to allow our young cats to develop.
stopstandthere wrote:Yes Early is a borderline NBA player thus far. Having said that, he shows promising on the court and is rather athletic. To find a place in NBA, I think he should improve his jumper especially the three and defense. He should be a 3 & D guy.
He might be a better/smarter basketball player than THJ at this point. I need to see more of him to truly judge. He gives the effort at both ends of the court and he tries to rebound the ball. He needs to find a veteran mentor to guide him, and he needs to invest in a forward camp this summer to improve his lowpost game. Whatever he does, he needs not to emulate Carmelo.

Every team has some adequate players who cost very little. There's nothing wrong with it but there's nothing good about it either.
I'm glad he had a good game, but that doesn't make him ANYTHING yet.
Next year he'll still be a rookie in my eyes.

About 600 min but a lot of that was injured. I have no problem bringing him back.

I don't mind bringing him back either but lets not pretend he's done a single thing yet.
All we can do is hope that when he starts his 2nd rookie season he shows some promise as a 7-10th man for the time being.
If he had eligibility, he would have been better off another year in college.
Just a little bit less cash in the pocket though.![]()
If the newsday story I read was correct, only FOUR people are under contract for next year when all is said & done, correct?
To me that is the best news other than being dead last in the league with only 10+ games left.

Yeah, I'm certainly hoping that he turns into a good player but holy crap has he been bad this year.
Only five players have guaranteed money for next year: Melo, Calderon, Early, THJr and Galloway; Galloway is only partially guaranteed. We have team options for Wear and Acy. And we can extend a qualifying offer to Shved to make him a restricted free agent.

There you have it. Thank you for the info. ![]()
Of the 4 tanking teams, I wish we had what Philly has. I love Noel.
Maybe towns will be a mixture of Noel & Cousins. Which means we pick 2nd & get Okafor.
