Knicks · Willie Stein tourney breakdown (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 4/6/2015 8:30 AM
I took the 3 highest rated defenses he faced in the tourney. Two of these team were SEVERELY undersized Notre dame avg height 6-4 Cincinnati average height 6-4.(I also left out a game agaisnt hampton which is basically div 2 with avg height of 6-3) he only went 1-5 in that game as well

He played a total of 94 minutes(31.7per) As a junior 7 footer going against mainly guards in his 3 biggest games of his career

31.7min 5.2 points 7-15 48% a total of 3 free throws or 1 per game. 11 rebounds TOTAL 3.8 per game average 1 rebound vs 8:30 played 6 blocked shots 2 per with 6 fouls 2 assists in 94 minutes less than 1 a game

These stats to me indicate a player who would be a a player who needs SUBSTANTIAL time overseas to develop.

I see him as a 20 pick or less and needs to go to Europe for at-least a year to develop a semblance of offense.

another WCS threat ... WTF
Vmart @ 4/6/2015 10:43 AM
Briggs your freaking out about nothing. WCS will not be drafted by the Knicks.
VDesai @ 4/6/2015 10:55 AM
He will be in the top 10 but he won't be on the Knicks radar screen in the top 4. He can be like a Camby or Chandler, but he's not a franchise player. I wonder who should get taken first between him and Kaminsky. Kaminksy is clearly the most underrated player in the draft. He is the best player in college basketball right now, that is for sure.

Kaminsky vs WCS? No contest. One can play basketball one really is a football player who can dunk.

I think he is a high lottery pick.

He still reminds me of J.Noah when I watch him play

Noah can't score much, but WCS has no where near the offensive Bball IQ of Noah. Noah, even while at college, was an phenomenal passer, could put the ball on the floor and ran pick and roll and high post. He was a key cog to the Florida offense even if he wasn't a main scorer. WCS shows none of those traits right now.

I dont think WCS has 1/10 a feel for the game as Noah. The topic really here was when WCS was faced with tougher teams--he played incredibly poor. In fact if I were to blame Kentuckys loss on one player--hes the guy. They allowed Wisconsin to play 5-4.

I agree with all points you mentioned

I should have been more specific...its WCS defensive ability and hustle that reminds me of Noah. I think the offense will come (at least to the level of Noah which, imo, isn't very high).

Vmart @ 4/6/2015 12:01 PM
I would take Myles Turner before WCS.

I have thought of Noah too - not that there is any similarity to their games, but perhaps there are untangibles that on the face of it, you think, they are not an impact player.

Again, thinking back to Noah's draft - I don't recall if anyone really thought he would have the impact he's had - certainly with 2020 I might make him a top 3 pick that year, maybe even 1.

Again, not commenting on whether WCS is in this conversation.

I tend to think Briggs is overreacting, and if Phil was referring to WCS, then maybe it was smoke vs. anything else.

Knicks1969 @ 4/6/2015 1:34 PM
The dude plays in a system where he is not required to showcase his full talent. Just like we have not seen Towns full offensive abilities, same goes for stein. He is long with a high basketball IQ with freakish athleticism. I wouldn't pick him with the first pick, but I sure as hell would trade that pick for multiple first round picks to get this kid.
VDesai @ 4/6/2015 1:43 PM
To me if Phil was talking defense than that just means he prefers Towns to Okafor for me vs. picking out Cauely-Stein

Exactly

Just before making his statements about a defensive Big, Phil actually said that they wanted a player with "Multiple Skills". It defies logic to think Phil would be talking about WCS. He's looking for a franchise impacting talent. That very clearly fits Towns more than WCS. KAT is still a baby and already shows great promise. You can see the vast talent KAT has on both ends and his overall BB IQ is high as well. If you've ever heard KAT talk you can tell he's a very intelligent young man.

While there have been some moves that have seemingly worked out(or should I say have chances to work out) my confidence with some things I see stays at a very reasonable level. I think Phil is very specific with his words and he comes across as telling. If you look through the passage you can find the answer. If his answer has to be taken at face value than he has WCS very high on his list and Okafor off his list completely. When Phil Jackson calls Okafor Olkwandi---I think he means it. He's a highly intelligent person and he is an absolutely rookie at what he is doing. For him to give a show card---from my perspective--its not surprising. Time will tell

Briggs it's called misdirection. If you are falling this hard for Phils words imagine how confused GMs are.

I'm sure that WCS is on the list somewhere. I'm just sure that it's not at the very top. Not while he has a chance at Towns. Towns has All Star Potential IMO. at 1 or 2 I think Phil is taking KAT or OK4. If we end up 3 or 4 then all bets are off. I really can't say for sure who Phil would draft.

Past lessons man just think back to Steph Curry. Knicks put all their cards on their table.
