Knicks · My final plan A in the draft even from pick #1 is trade down (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 4/6/2015 5:28 PM
to grab Hezonja and Kaminsky. In round #2 targets Dez Wells Joe Young

Free agent target Enes Kanter full max

Main trade target--Walter Taveras C Atlanta possession from 2nd round last year. I would be willing to give up a 2018 #1 pick(top 5 protected) to get them an additional #1 this year in a swap. Secondary is Christian Wood 7-0 C/PF from UNLV draft eligible.

Can anyone make that happen for me:)

smackeddog @ 4/6/2015 5:37 PM
Would kaminsky and Kanter be up to the job defensively? I'm really not sure I like that paring. I would consider trading down for the chat e to draft 2 good players though- let's hope we get the number 1 pick so we have as many options as possible.
smackeddog @ 4/6/2015 5:39 PM
What other pairing would you like to pick if we traded down? Would you go for Winslow if he dropped, or is he being over valued due to his recent performance ?
smackeddog @ 4/6/2015 5:43 PM
Also herzonja may have character issues, so I'd be a bit wary of pairing him with Kanter. You can afford to take on one prickly character, but two is a recipe for trouble.
nixluva @ 4/6/2015 5:49 PM
I see where you're going with that plan and I think that gives you great value but I have to stick with my plan A if we get that #1 pick, take KAT and smile all the way into Free Agency knowing you've got one more core piece in place already. It'll make the rest of the shopping so much easier when you can slot in a PF who can play on both ends for years to come. You could go for a kid like Kanter or Monroe with more confidence or adding another big C like Ajinca or Lopez next to him would only make the defense that much better. If we can add a solid 2 way SG like Danny Green and also Thanasis coming in next year to extend the D on the perimeter and you can see a really good defensive team starting to form. That would be my Plan A.

Every player is prickly. If I can get these two guys--I give up Okafor or Towns or Mudiay--whatever anyone wants. The only way this can happen is Philly gets a4 and 6 and we get 1 or a three way. to take into the equation we have a 25% chance at number IF we dont win another game--this scenario is almost out of this world--but Id like to start high and work down. I feel Id be getting a future all star SG and a C/PF who is vastly under rated/ I need a pure shot blocker and I wish they took this into consideration last year with Taveras--but we have amno and I would not be afraid to shoot it.

GustavBahler @ 4/6/2015 6:02 PM
If we traded down I would rather it be for Russell, but I would be happy with Kaminsky as well. Love his motor and passion for the game.
StarksEwing1 @ 4/6/2015 6:13 PM
We get it BRIGGS you want to trade down and you want kaminsky

I wanted Kaminsky and Wood as secondary trades all year. I just prefer Hezong over the two bigs IF we target Kanter Lopez or lesser degree Monroe. Kanter by far #1.

why trade down in the first place when we are pretty much guaranteed to have top 4 pick. As much as i like kaminsky im not sold on him translating well to the nba at least compared to the top 5 guys

I would not do it just for Kaminsky I need BOTH or then I d change my mind. It would have to be a threeway where I give up #1. I think the value of the two is better than the 1.

Each step is important--this is something that works together in a package.

too much of a risk. Better plan is to get okakor towns russell or mudiay
knickscity @ 4/6/2015 6:36 PM
One of the top four is likely to be a bust, happens in the majority of drafts. While I would content with any of them, that is reality. But for this team, we need more than 1 guy, we need several. I'm not opposed at all if Phil flips that top selection for some quality depth.
VDesai @ 4/6/2015 6:37 PM
I think the target should be the Lakers. Trade pick #1/#2 to LAL for the no.4 and 27 picks + a no. 1 pick next year or the year after. We drop down to a spot where we can still get Kaminsky/Russell/WCS potentially and get another role player at 27 + a pick a year from now. its a long re-build- we need more bodies.
gunsnewing @ 4/6/2015 6:42 PM
We finally have a top 5 pick for the first time in 30yrs and we are going to trade a sure fire 15yr star for 2 potential busts? Yea ok..

The Lakers by all accounts are going to be building through the draft, I cant see them giving up 3 st round picks picks for 1, just to move up 2-3 spots.

nixluva @ 4/6/2015 6:44 PM
If Phil gets that top pick, his phone is gonna blow up. LITERALLY You can imagine all the GM's salivating over possible deals. Makes you wonder what Hinkie would do with all those picks he has. It would make things so much more interesting if the Knicks got the top pick. Me personally i'm sold on KAT but I would totally understand Phil looking to get more value for that pick if he was offered a good enough deal. This is a great draft for such a move. Lots of really good players IMO.

None is that is true, more likely to be the other way around.

If you want Okafor and/or Towns and believe its a 2 player draft you will move up. Lakers need star power. This would be the only way of them securing one of the two marquee centers given their pretty much locked in on the 4 spot if they don't win the lotto.

As far as I know, the only team that we could trade down with to get two lottery picks is Philly. And that's only if they receive LA's top 5 protected pick this year. Why is Philly trading two lottery picks for one lottery pick?

Because maybe they think highly of a particular player?
