PENCER HAYWOOD [Player] - Haywood joined the ABA in 1969 and then went on to play for 12 years in the NBA (1970-1983), where he scored 14,592 points, had 7,038 rebounds and won an NBA Championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1980. He is a four-time NBA All-Star (1972-1975) and two-time All-NBA First Team member (1973, 1974). Haywood was the leading scorer on the 1968 gold medal United States Olympic team. During his time with the ABA's Denver Nuggets, he was named ABA Rookie of the Year and ABA All Star Game MVP. He holds ABA single season records for most minutes played (3,808), most field goals made (986), most rebounds (1,637) and highest rebounding average (19.5). At the University of Detroit, he was a unanimous First Team All-America selection in 1969.

He also challenge and sued the NBA to gain the "Hardship rule" which paved the way for players to leave before 4 years!!

There should be a sub-level in the HOF for ABA stars...
I read three or four of the write-ups and they don't even mention he played specifically for the Knicks.

I sort of miss the old Spencer DeadWood and Bob MacADon't days... wait, no I don't.

One of my childhood heroes after the Knicks of Frazier, Monroe,Bradley era. He is really more Seattle Supersonic than Knick but, eh we'll take him.

Its not the "NBA HOF", its the BASKETBALL HOF!!!
Louie Dampier of the Kentucky Wildcats and ABA fame was elected via ABA commitee. There is recognition for the ABA. Some of those players are very deserving based on College accomplishments and Haywood was a star at every level, Lead the NCAA in scoing, was the best player on the '68 olympic team that was depleted because of the boycott by many black players, was a pioneer who fought the system (they give cred to these guys), was a star in the ABA, and NBA and then fell off quickly.

They don't mention the knicks, hell, they don't mention the SUPERSONICS!!!!!

They let connie hawkins in. Haywoods resume is far more impressive at different levels. The precidence was there to induct him.

Get used to it. Christian Laettner is going in one day.

And if they do put Laettner in, I hope they put him in the ABA wing. "Christian Laetnner, the college afterthought of Dream Team I"

And Spencer sees the HOF as a validation of his playing career, not his court case fighting the system.

Ex-Knick forward Spencer Haywood, a four-time NBA All-Star who played in New York from 1975 to 1979 as a Jackson teammate, was elected Monday into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Though his best years came in Seattle, the Knicks nominated Haywood for the Hall a few years ago because the Sonics franchise moved to Oklahoma City and has no historical connection. No jersey is attached to the entrance, but Haywood told The Post, “I’m going in as a Knick.’’
