Humiliating 14,000 Viewers For Knicks Telecast on MSG
The Knicks’ worst season in history has taken a toll on MSG Network, and it bottomed out during Friday night’s telecast in Washington.
According to a source, the Knicks-Wizards matchup mustered a rating of 0.18 — which is believed to be the smallest number for a Knicks live telecast in many years. That rating represents 14,000 viewers for a game in which the Knicks fell behind 30-10 after one quarter.
An MSG Network spokesman would not confirm nor deny whether it was the lowest rating in recent team history. Though the fans are still packing the Garden, the network’s ratings are down 39 percent, the spokesman said.
Since the All-Star break, after Carmelo Anthony had surgery on his torn patellar tendon and Amar’e Stoudemire’s contract was bought out, Phil Jackson’s Knicks have fielded a mostly anonymous roster.
According to the TV source, the drop in viewership prompted owner James Dolan to suggest all Westchester Knicks games be telecast on MSG. Originally the plan was to telecast just two of the D-League team’s games.
In an attempt to generate ratings, MSG Network will air last week’s Steve Mills-Phil Jackson season-ticketholder presentation Tuesday night.
Knicks will be able to generate ratings with a few shows dedicated to the combination of the draft and free agency.
its NY. People have better things to do. When the Knicks are better so will be the ratings
That's a good idea. The first part of the first broadcast can be dedicated to knick draft day blunders over the years and how we are due for another Patrick Ewing type pick. Then really focus on each player projected to be lottery picks. Wally is not enough. They are going to have to add some more college experts to give incite. I don't need to hear any more of Alan Hahn trying to break down the drafts and draft day trade trades.
Then the guys can go over he list of free agency without always focusing on the big names that are never coming here.
I have seen more NC State than Knicks in person.
I have seen Notre Dame more in person than knicks.
I have on TV seen more Duke or Kentucky.
I have not seen a game as I did not get league pass and Knicks bumped from national TV.
Its cool. It's what has been, not what I expect going forward. What ever happend this season won't next.
I always watch the Knick either by tape or live. It wouldve been nice if they were going to do this to really rotate some D league guys in and out to take a look at new blood every few games. HEY maybe 1 guy sticks and BANG viewers are caught in the hype. They really never did this.
this is the first yr since 94 that i miss more than 5 games for the season. I haven't watched for more then 6 minutes (if im lucky) since they traded jr and shump, then once amare and melo were gone, i only turn it on for a hot second.
The worst thing MSG can do is put classic knicks games on, that will really make you depressed about the current state of our knicks.

When your actively trying to lose games, it helps not to have fresh, new, highly motivated players putting in a lot of effort.
