Knicks · I really hope Phil knows to bring shved back (page 1)

Shved really broke out in the triangle he is a perfect fit as a pg combo guard (kind of fit the mold Scottie pippen did for the triangle in chi town) ...and to have a starting caliber guard for cheap is what we need and we can focus our big $$ needs elsewhere... We have his bird rights and can go over the cap to sign him if needed..what makes me nervous is that Phil and Dylan's spy mills didn't mention him with Galloway,Thomas,Lou ... Maybe they didn't mention him because they got him via trade? I don't know... What I do know is shved made the Knicks watchable even fun to watch when he was in the starting line up... Dude is a real talent and a fit for this team
fishmike @ 4/10/2015 4:29 PM
I agree, and I will give them the benefit of the doubt. If they say they want him its leverage for the agent. I think they like him (how cant they he played really well) and at worst I pick up his QO and risk having him around at $4mm for next year. what would be ideal would be a raise and give him 3 years $10mm. Lock him up nice and cheap
nixluva @ 4/10/2015 4:54 PM
I'm pretty convinced Phil is high on Schved. He targeted Schved and actually used a Trade Exception to get him so it wasn't just some dumb luck thing where he got him in the deal just to make the numbers work. He didn't have to trade for Schved in order to make the Prigs trade. That was an extra move.

Then on top of that you see how Schved performed and he clearly did fit as Phil had hoped. I think maybe Phil is hoping that Schved won't draw a lot of interest but that may not be realistic. Who knows what Schved's value is around the league. My guess is that it's not too much to pay the guy his $4 mil.

I didn't realize he used a trade exception to get him. I think he is a keeper. Hopefully Phil brings him back.

Yes, 16 games deserves exception money.
BRIGGS @ 4/10/2015 7:35 PM
Its pretty much like this

with the WORST PG in the NBA signed and no frontcourt players under contract as well--we are not going to have the latitude to fiddle around. Schveyd has earned a 2-3 years 8-15mm deal(4-5mm per). If we are cheap and he moves elsewhere we are simply at stage 1 with another position.

If we actually go into next year with Jose C as our PG we will lose 50 games++ We bring back Shveyd--we find a couple of other taller PGs who can actually defend and we allocate at other positions. By cutting Calerdon we can use 4.3mm towards putting together a new PG tandem.

I fully understand there are ?? with Schveyd--but we also have seen his upside and he can stabilize the position for the short term.

Is the QO with Alex a deal where we can match any offer?

Yep. But I don't know if anyone goes over 4 mil for Shved. That is a tough call. I want him back but I don't know if he is worth that much. I think he goes back to Europe if he doesn't get that though.

I'd have no problem with Schved starting if we were unable to find someone significantly better. You have to remember that we should be increasing the starting talent and in that case Schved will be among a higher level of talent which will make his game more impactful. He played better than some tend to realize.

As a result, teammates have been left with better looks. Again via NBA.com, while Shved was suiting up for New York from Feb. 22 through Mar. 22, Cleanthony Early's field-goal clip with Shved on the floor is roughly 25 percent higher than with him off. Cole Aldrich's rises by 23 percent, Jason Smith's is nine percent higher and Shane Larkin's sees an eight-percent increase.

I've been following the stats lately -- not watching the games. How's is Shveddy's defense? Is he going to get torched by the top 10 PGs?

Hes been out and will be out for the year.

He didn't seem as bad as they made him out to be from what I saw. His size actually helped him IMO. He's not a good defender but hopefully he gets with a legit trainer and improves his strength and conditioning this summer. That and hopefully have better defensive players around him should help to keep things in order.

I agree he did really bring his game to the next level and with better players to pass The ball to shved could be a slight triple double threat from night to night the guy is a 6'6 pg who plays like penny pre injury ... This guy is a must have for next year

His option is something like $4.5 million next year, right? That's way too much. He's never shot over .400 for an entire season. His short stint here could be just a hot streak. For a mil or two he's a keeper but not at 4.5. No way.

Offer the QO and nothing more. i agree that QO will clog up precious space though.

See I'm ignorant when it comes to the cap. So we can decline the option and offer a QO? What would the QO be?

if the team doesnt offer the QO, he'll be an unrestricted free agent. I can';t remember what his QO would be, but I think it's above 4 mil, a little above. I like him as a player, not sure if Phil clogs cap space into him though. We need alot of players imo.

I checked. It is just below 4 million. Essentially it is 4 million.

Just curious, where did you see it? Everywhere i've looked shows it at 4.1 mil.
