Ill bet anyone here--100 $ that if we dont get pick #1 that we will pick Willie Stein at 2-3-4-5--whatever we get.

Me ... whats the bet?
this will be easy.
I would also like to bet you about Miami winning the number 1 spot. I will give you 5:1.
Moonangie@ 4/11/2015 10:05 PM
That would depend on which team gets #1. I don't think Philly will take Towns, they want Russell.
CrushAlot@ 4/11/2015 10:26 PM
I thought you had Stein going 21 in your last mock. I believe draftnet has him at 10. I think you are panicking a bit. You cited an Isola article about a 'done deal', have Miami winning the lottery and now have the Knicks moving the top pick to get Stein. I think Phil will smart and thorough in the draft process. I think when he said he knows who he would draft he was talking about Towns.

wouldn't it make more sense for us to go with a small/wing if we have Monroe penciled in? Our backcourt needs help- Russell/Mudiay make a ton of sense if we have Monroe.

This is what I think will happen. Miami winning pick #1 is just premonition

No way, I cannot see Phil picking Stein, especially that early He shipped out Tyson Chandler for a reason, he lacks the skills to play in the Triangle on OFFENSE

Yup...Stein did not show us anything special as the tournament went on. I expected more from him.
Phil would take Kaminsky before Stein, if we missed on the other two bigs and he wanted to go large. Not sure what the Knicks think about Russell, Mudiay, and Winslow.
nixluva@ 4/11/2015 11:46 PM
The Knicks have good scouts and talent evaluators. They're going to do what any team would do when it comes to the draft. They'll have their draft board worked out in case of any scenario. Stein is going to be low because he's not a player that can "move a franchise forward" as Phil kept stating and he's not even a role player that can play 2 ways and have an impact on both ends. He may be a good defender, but there are other players who can defend AND rebound, score, pass, get to the line etc. There's more to the game than one aspect.
knickscity@ 4/12/2015 5:39 AM
Phil said plain as day why he traded Tyson and cats still try to blame it on fit. He was old, injury prone and didnt want to be here, and with that Phil said he STILL wants a player like Tyson. I've said time and time again Phil wont draft Stein with a top pick, doesnt mean he wont trade out and get a lower one and a good player to do it.
Phil likes Stein because he can guard 1-5, just like Tyson's help defense was from 1-5. Towns cannot do this, and Phil isnt all gaga over scoring like fans are. Phil is breaking cats hearts, he's gonna build a team completely opposite of what you cats who are slobbing his balls want. Just win, that's all I care for.

I'll bet you $100 we don't pick him unless we get the 5th or worse pick. However if I lose, I have no intention of paying up- it would be a Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton type situation
foosballnick@ 4/12/2015 8:33 AM
I think Briggs is saying that the Knicks will pick Stein in the 2-5 slot depending on where the lotto balls fall. I will take the bet. Phil may or may not like Stein, but he will not use a top pick to take a middle of the round player. If, however, he trades the pick for assets and to move down, bet is off.
Vmart@ 4/12/2015 9:48 AM
If we pick 5th or 6th the Knicks will definitely take WCS. I believe what Briggs is saying to be true. I am have the same premonition as Briggs.
nixluva@ 4/12/2015 11:17 AM
Knicks can't win another game from here on. If the stay tied at least they have a decent shot still.
It's actually relatively rare that two teams tie for the league's worst record -- the last time it happened was 2003. The worst team in the league is supposed to get 250 of 1,000 possible combinations of ping-pong balls in the NBA Draft lottery, giving them a 25 percent chance at the top pick. The second-worst team is supposed to get 199 combinations. If the two teams tie, the difference is split, with both teams getting 225. In 2003, this worked out fine for both teams -- the Cleveland Cavaliers got LeBron James, the Denver Nuggets got Carmelo Anthony.

When did 225 become half of 449? The only reason why Denver got Melo is because Detroit drafted darko.

449 x .5 = 224.5
The point being that the teams still end up with a higher chance. The whole lottery is strange when it comes to understand the odds. The key for the Knicks is just not being able to fall out of the top 4. As long as their odds remain locked into the top 4 then it's all good.

Not strange at all. If there is a tie, one of those teams wont be locked into top 4. The Cavs in 03 had the extra chance that Denver did not have....Cavs were locked into top 4, Denver top 5 locked.

You nailed the reason why Tyson is gone in the first part of your post. Second part I disagree with. No way Phil takes Stein over Towns who can guard the perimeter as well. Towns isn't at quick but his lateral movement is better than 90% or more of the bigs in the NBA. His skills are too strong to ever consider taking Stein first. Only way we draft stein is if towns, mudiay, Russell, ok4, Winslow & Kaminsky are off the board. Stein has bust written all over him. Not incredibly passionate about basketball and zero offensive game. If he amounts to anything it won't be for another 5yrs. He's no Noah coming out of Florida offensively

Idk, I think Stein will be a good defensive player in this league, and one that can handle catch passes above the rim to start off. But keep in mind I didnt say Phil would pick Stein first, but rather he wont draft him with a high pick. I think he trades our pick and drafts Stein and receive a solid player in exchange for the pick.
gunsnewing@ 4/12/2015 12:05 PM
We shouldn't trade our draft pick ever again. At least for another 100yrs so we don't have to live though it again
