The Knicks for one.

I want Towns but would be just as happy with OK4. Both players will IMO be very good NBA players. OK4 has a chance to be a dominant post player and Towns I feel will be more of an all around scorer and defender. Both are so young that you can't take what you see from them now and assume that's it. They're both gonna grow and mature and develop.

I agree.

My biggest issue is the 50% FT shooting combined with the Duke bonus (i.e. the assumption that Coach K gets more out of his players than other coaches will be able to). Without getting into the defense argument -- assume he is an average defender -- the question is whether a player who is solely a post player can (1) make it in this league and (2) not wear down by injury prematurely from all the banging.

With an 80% FT% and a midrange game, Towns has an advantage in my book -- assuming OK4's advantages in the post game are countered by Town's advantages on defense.

This is in no manner a condemnation of OK4, I just see him as a riskier option.

mreinman @ 4/13/2015 9:29 PM
Ok4 is as good as tim duncan, nobody is sleeping on him

Thay are sleeping on D (clyde) Russell though.

Towns not only has a midrange game, but a deep game as well. And he has impeccable agility in the low post for a big. Soft touch, great defensive timing...he's a legit franchise-level talent. At 19, it's scary to imagine his upside.

If there's any concern, it's the same as any pick...can he stay healthy, get into NBA condition, and mature into form. I think the answers are unequivocally YES YES YES. Draft him Phil. Just do it.

Don't worry the Knicks will be missing that boat. They are set for the WCS boat.

You can't really say that given the history of the lottery. There's no way to know where we'll end up.

I already know where the Knicks will be picking. As a Knicks fan expect the worst.

Past history has no bearing on future outcomes. The odds are the odds. If the Knicks end with the second worst record they'll have an exactly 19% chance of landing the top spot and can fall no further than 5th. So we do actually know the odds of what will happen. Predicting what actually will happen is of course impossible. But you cannot take the aberrations that have occurred thus far in the draft lottery as some kind of portent for what will happen this year. Every time they turn on the ping pong ball machine, the outcome is the outcome. Ping pong balls have no memory or tendencies to reward underdogs.

You have odds and then you have to also deal with outside factors. The lottery is rigged, why don't they televise it live it's done behind closed doors with some accounting firm that is taking a pay check. I still don't understand the Cavs winning three times after losing LeBron.

It worked. Kyrie, wiggins & Bennett got Lebron to go back to Cleveland

I'm pretty sure it's done in the presence of a representative from every team, and any one can ask to see the winning lottery ball to make sure there isn't something wrong.
gunsnewing @ 4/14/2015 7:59 AM
I don't think so Bonn. So you think the teams already know where they are picking before its announced? Why bother to have a rep sitting there and looking surprised? I also believe it's done behind closed doors by NBA people

explain to me how, when it is a given that neither okafor nor melo are going to be defensive stalwarts. melo has had conditioning issues his entire career with the knicks and the knock on okafor is that he has had and may have conditioning issues. that puts a ton of pressure on three other players to be above average defenders. who are these three other players or is defense an afterthought with you?

You don't need to be a defensive stalwart. You have to be decent at best. Good position defense is far more important and that can be taught. I understand that you guys are enamoured with block shots but they aren't everything. I saw Towns play he was allowed to challenge shots but Duke had a different approach where Okfor had to stay on the floor and be limited and not take as many chances. While Towns may have looked great blocking shots he was picking up fouls at a high rate. If Towns was on Duke he would have played a different kind of defense. I can almost guarantee it same if Okfor was on Kentucky he would have taken more chances.

Nalod @ 4/14/2015 9:24 AM
"People" are not GMs.
As far as Nalod is concerned, if you miss one boat, you'll catch the next one.
I'd rather hear that Fish kept his shyt together and word go out this organization is solid then some screaming tank-a-thon!

Phil will get his man. Odds are top pick does not go to the biggest loser so there is no reason for this franchise to tank.
Do it the right way, everyday and it will evolve.

Neither towns or Oka4 appear to be saviors in the mold of Lebron. IM sure in hindsight we'll have wanted on or the other after a few years to evaluate but in my book either is good.

SupremeCommander @ 4/14/2015 10:27 AM
the easiest way to determine success in the NBA is whether or not that player does one thing well... people say post play is dead in the NBA but I call BS. This kid will be operate in the post at an exceedingly high level. That will keep him on the court. Him staying on the court will help his development in other areas. I don't believe that post play is dead in this era--I believe that there is a general lack of polish. If you get a weapon like Okafor, in time the older post players like Duncan are going to retire, and before you know it no defense in the league would be prepared to deal with Okafor...
