Knicks · DeMarre Carroll - I would love to play in the garden (page 2)

stopstandthere @ 4/17/2015 11:05 AM
Subject to the contract being offered to Carroll, he is welcomed to aboard replacing Acy in my opinion.
EwingsGlass @ 4/17/2015 11:20 AM
Yeah I read that Post article (YOU CAN ALL STOP READING ) and they suggested $5MM would get him. At $5MM He is my top priority. The flexibility you get with the rest of the roster if you plugged him in at $5M or even $6M is ridiculous. I can't assume Houston allows Beverley go, but I like his defense. This would be my ideal offseason at this point -- barring some amazing players forcing their way to come here.

PG Patrick Beverley $7,000,000
SG Demarr Carroll $6,000,000
SF Carmelo Anthony $22,875,000
PF Karl Anthony Towns $4,500,000
C Deandre Jordan $15,800,000

PG/SG Langston Galloway $845,000
SG/SF Tim Hardaway $1,304,000 -- Try to trade
SF/PF
PF/C
C Bismack Biyambo $5,500,000
Cleanthony Early $845,000
Jose Calderon $3,100,000 STRETCH

Total Cap $67,769,000.00

After Hitting the Salary Cap, I would use Rookie and Vet Minimum Contracts to fill in the roster. Add Antekoumpo for instance at $845,000. I would offer Shved and Bargs Vet min contracts. I doubt they take them.

crzymdups @ 4/17/2015 11:24 AM
Shved has a $4M qualifying offer and a $6M cap hold.

Correct. You do not have to offer the QO. If you don't he becomes an unrestricted free agent. After we spend all our monopoly money, we can offer vet minimum contracts if he is still available.

RonRon @ 4/17/2015 11:35 AM
Or like in the past, every FREE AGENT utilizes NYK's in order to get the highest possible offer, IE GRANT HILL, Steve Nash, Joe Johnson, Kobe, Lebron, etc...

Not sure what this adds to the discussion. Also, none of the players you mentioned needed to use NY to drive up their price because they were all max contract players at the time of their free agency. They only had to choose which max contract to accept.

Grant Hill did this when MDA was here to get more money out of Phoenix when he was a $3M a year player.

You are right. I was thinking of the first go round - to Orlando.

Bonn1997 @ 4/17/2015 3:24 PM
I'd be fine with 8 mil per. I think he helps his team as much as Monroe does.

I think he helps more than Monroe - he actually defends and helps spread the floor.

And he's cheaper.

EwingsGlass @ 4/17/2015 4:03 PM
We need a good 3&D

Yeah, I couldn't decide whether to say more than or as much as.

I worry that he returns to Europe if he doesn't get more than a vet mini deal. He has said that playing in the nba has always been his dream.

hard to tell if he is worth more. High usage rate skews stats. On next year's team I would expect him to have to do a lot of work without the ball. I didn't see great defense, but then again, they were tanking.

callmened @ 4/17/2015 10:45 PM
that was the mandatory statement made by player about to hit free agency in order to drive the price up
CrushAlot @ 4/17/2015 11:15 PM
DeMarre made 2.5 mil last year. He probably is a reasonable overpay for what he brings. A DeMarre/Galloway backcourt could be very effective.

Looking at the new cap projections for the next 3 years, there is no way in hell we get to sign him on a cheap contract- every player is going to get a pretty large contract this offseason, it's going to make it difficult for us to sign multiple players

nixluva @ 4/19/2015 12:30 AM
Hawks are not together that long as a group outside of Teague n Horford.

Korver, Scott, Jenkins, Mack 2012-13
Millsap, Carroll, Muscala and Schroder 2013-14
Sefolosha, Bazemore 2014-15

The Knicks aren't looking to add that many players this summer. We're looking at the Draft pick and perhaps 3 FA's.

MS @ 4/20/2015 2:17 PM
He get's up in people's faces. Does multiple things and has a high IQ. Would be a great pickup at 5-6MM a year.
holfresh @ 4/20/2015 2:39 PM
The fact that these guys continually makes these types of comments when they are under contract and playing for another team only tells you its a pump and dump strategy...They are just trying to inflate their own value..If someone really wanted to play at the Garden they wouldn't say it unless they are forcing a trade...They risk their own fans riding them for the remainder of their deal...But Knick fans fall for this all the time...

I think its honest.. I mean tons of guys love playing in the garden. Not all of them would want to live and play here. I think other guys would like to, but it doesnt work out for one reason or another.
