Knicks · Another Phil "state of the union address" speech (page 1)

knicks1248 @ 4/21/2015 1:30 PM
I'm sure someone will post the comments, but what i do get from some of his comments. Next season will more than likely be his last.

He will build a 8th seed at best, and expectations will be low as hell, giving FISHER more rope than a hiker dangling from mount everest.

Sounds like were headed for another season with ZERO accountability across the boards, just another experiment. Were just going to sign a few players of 1 or 2 yr contracts, which is never ever good, when your build something, thats patch work.

Who ever then takes over from phil, will fire fisher with the quickness, unless there some sort of transformation. Is this the pitch were going to get FA with.

Please be a pump and dump. please please please... I cant really say why I dislike him so much, maybe its his douchey old man and the fact that Timmy jr isnt half that player.. who knows. I would trade him in a heartbeat.

Nice to see he's looking for someone to get to the basket, hopefully dispelling belief that the long 2 is the shot of choice in this offense

I'm hoping he's trying to pump his value to trade him, too.

He really is an unlikeable player for some reason.

I thought it was just me... I remember following his stories about team USA, etc, working on his defense, improving his game, all that. He was better as a rookie.

This is what I meant in the other thread about enabling Melo.

I also don't believe for a second Dolan didn't want Melo starting in the All-Star game at MSG.

I don't doubt that Dolan wanted it, but I don't know how much that played into Melo's decision.

I'm of two minds of this:

I understand and respect Melo's sense of pride with this. Dude has never been this injured before and is just doing what dudes looking at 30 do all the time. Trying to use strength of will but eventually realizing Father Time runs this shit. And with all the talk about recruiting I'm sure he didn't want to be greeting his peers to his home court Donnie Walnuts-style inactive and hobbled up.

But as our franchise player, I wish he thought about the franchise first. Phil's quote reads like: well I didn't really care about the All-Star game and half-heartedly suggested an early shutdown over Skype while I was watching the Malibu sunset, but whatevs: no harm, no foul.

I just ugh because so many of us suspected this was going on at the time...

I guess I ugh because it was ultimately Melo's decision instead of the wiser move prevailing.

Not sure why you call TH "douchey". I always had tons of respect for his game. He always came to play hard and he torched the Knicks. There was something about him that I just "liked", maybe his tenacity. Of course, he was the enemy, but I am the sort of Knicks fan who appreciates competitive qualities in my adversaries. I don't harbor ill will against those who prevented us from winning (MJ, Dream, etc.) I respect them for being better and/or trying harder.

Not sure what I think about THjr. He certianly sucked this season. But I think the jury is still out on him. Would I trade him now? Yes, if it helps the team get another pick, I'd trade him in a heartbeat.

Pump and dump seems a good plan for him. If he stays on the Knicks, he better do a better job preparing this summer.

Thats because all he does is shoot, and his farther (who we all don't really care for as a player) is light yrs better than his son will ever be

It's like having Dell curry for 10 yrs, then watching his son come into the league and just dominate.

I agree with you on TH. He was great. A hell of a player. If we were getting a chip off the old block (that was my hope) then I would be thrilled. I guess douchey comes to mind because I still remember his post game after we beat them and he was crying about the calls in the lockerroom. Remember he called Dick Baveta "Nick" Baveta because all the calls only went one way.

but yea... I would take Timmy Sr. on my team any day

I respected his fathers work ethic and passion, but he hit too many big shots against the knicks for me to ever really like him.

Tim Sr. has made several public comments which paint him as a class A douchebag.

As for who you'd rather have playing for your team its Tim Sr by a landslide. Much better basketball player than THjr.

This is a very important statement. For those who wonder about his focus for the team, this goes along with his other statements that he wants to improve this team's defense. We know we need to score but playing better D will go along with any added scoring.

I think this is also why we may see THJ traded. He's simply a player that doesn't give you enough at the other parts of the game. If THJ isn't scoring at a high clip he's useless. He may still have some value in the eyes of another team.

I also liked Phil's statements on being smart in Free Agency. Not gonna go bargain basement but doesn't sound like he's gonna blow his whole stash on one expensive guy.
