He seems to be in the doghouse for the Clippers and I wouldn't be surprised if Doc Rivers made him available during the offseason. After all, Doc is a pretty awful GM. So if my intuition is correct, we should definitely make a run at Spencer. The guy seems to have been in the league forever but is only 26 years old and should have plenty left in the tank. And when his game was allowed to click on all-cylinders, he established himself as a pretty good rebounder, one of the best passing big men in the league and as a big that could hit the 3 or score off face-ups in the paint. In the triangle, I think he'd be lethal and best of all, he'd probably come cheap. I could see Doc being dumb enough to take Calderon and cash for him or maybe a sign and trade of Jason Smith, Shane Larkin, Cleanthony Early and cash. In any case, here's a glimpse into Spencer's ability in the high post:

I would say no. He is a big guy who can occasionally shoot threes but super soft in the paint.
Don't we need tough big guy can defend? HAWES is not the answer.

Hawes is horrible. One of the worst big men. Mullens2.0. Dude is horrible

Don't know his salary, but he seems like a good fit and in the mold of those 90 Bulls Centers that pass well. How much does he make?
RonRon@ 4/24/2015 1:43 AM
Didn't think he was going to be this bad on the Clippers, at one point, he looked like he was going to be the poor man's Ryan Anderson/Kevin Love...

Also: His defense is beyond atrocious. I don't know if I can take many more forwards who cannot defend. It's crushing my soul.

I agree. It would bring me great joy if next year other teams would hate playing against us because scoring would not come easy. No more career nights for them.

I'd like to think we can do better- his contract is pretty horrible and I would expect to get a first rounder to take it off their hands, even if we sent Calderon to them:
he is a very unselfish player, and the passing highlights underscore that. that is very important in this offense. but if he is as a bad a defender as some claim, then why bother? we need defenders.
that said his defensive numbers such as dbpm from basketball reference and drpm from espn rank hawes above aldridge defensively. i am not necessarily addressing man to man alone but also participating in a collective effort as well as man to man.
