If I had to point to one player who has been brutal for the Spurs--its Green. When he is off his 3 ball--its a scary deal.
His last 3 playoff games
6-24(25%) with 4 rebounds and 6 assists TOTAL in 30+ minutes per!! Name me one team that their SG plays like that in the playoffs and win games? Danny Green is a ROLE player and we are seeing the downside of that. We can find Danny Green in UDFA --is Danny Hilliard much different--same size--can hit the 3 ball at 40+% good build. Why would I spend 40mm$ on a role player who can get to the basket at a position where its near mandatory to get there?
Agreed. We need guys who can get to the rim.
I'd rather re-sign Shved to his $4M Qualifying Offer than overpay Green.
Green is a system player for San Antonio - his defense looks better because he has Duncan and Splitter and Baynes down low. They're a team D.
Jared Dudley on a better team. That is what Danny Green is. I hate to tell you guys but the Knicks have enough role players they need starters. You don't use free agency for role players when the need is obvious this team needs free agents that are going to impact the game from a starting role. I would rather have the other Green that is a Free agent on Memphis.

To be fair about Danny Green is he really worth a big contract? The Knicks need so much is he worth using cap space on? He doesn't really go hard to the basket doesn't do mid range giving a specialist a big contract would be a mistake. Green is more a product of Spurs system. Let's face it players like Green are compliment players, when the cupboard is empty it's not the time to add complimentary players. That free agency cash has to be used for impact players.

I agree he is a complimentary player for a set team. For the Knicks its a waste of cap money.
Langston Galloway is our Danny Green. Danny Green and Galloway are the guys you develop in-house to keep costs down. Don't spend cap money on them.

I said last week this guy was tremendously overaided and people would be paying for the pedigree of the Spurs not the player this guy actually is. He is a specialist, that's really it. He a good defender, but pop puts guys in a system where he finds success. Look at Marco Bellinelli. He has a skill and popivich used it perfectly. Matt Bonner to the lesser lesser extent. you have two great guards and perhaps the greatest power forward of all time getting you the ball for open threes.
The Knicks need to get in the routine of grabbing a guy that can do multiple things, too often we go after limited players that don't play defense, have zero IQ on the floor and can't fit into a team concept and make a real difference.

yeah, remember Gary Neal? people were hot and heavy to get him for a while, but his numbers plummeted this year, shot 30% from 3pt range after shooting 41% from 3 as a Spur.
Playing with Tim Duncan commanding attention in the post is a lot different than playing on the Hornets.
This has nothing to do with taking the lion share of minutes defending Chris Paul.

Am I winning a championship next year--then why the hll would I spend 8mm on a role player that I can try to develop out of the D league or 2nd round like Green himself? Danny Green cant get to the foul line--he's a SG who cant score if hes not hitting a 3 so what type of value does he have for hwre this team is. Less than zero because Id rather have a higher tiered player that I either drafted or traded for.

Look at his full history in terms of his career performance. Last 3 years he was showing great production as a "role player" for his team. Look at his 3pt%, eFG%, TS% and WS/48 in the previous playoffs.
no thanks to danny green - i never wanted him and it didn't take the last 6 games to convince me of it. any of these guys that leave the spurs never play as well for their new teams. danny green fits the spurs style of play perfectly and if he's smart, he should stay there.

Hes a role player and he cant get to the FT line. Many of his shots are created by the spacing the Spurs receive by having Tim Duncan in the post. On the other end same rules apply--he can play up on his man because he has two 7 footers protecting the basket. So he can make plays by over extending without thinking twice.
He's a systematic role player..no more no less. Dude can't dribble but he has 2 qualities that are in demand : defense and 3pt shooting. ..therefore he'll at least get 6 mill. Tops 9 mill. That's the bar cuz that's what Jodie Meeks got at detroit

OK you guys do realize that this is
exactly what the Knicks are looking to do, right? The Knicks are looking to add rim protecting bigs this summer as well as a post threat and so Danny Green's skills would be equally useful on our team. Also Danny is a good help defender and rebounds well.
Now I agree that Danny Green is not a strong penetration guard, but that is not to say that he never drives or scores inside.
