watching these games--there is simply no one who can guard a 6-10 265 pounder with his skill near the hoop. Looking at GS they simply had no one to go to in the post when they need shots and while Green gave his effort he got outplayed by Zach Randolph in the paint. Okafor I think will be a bigger better version of Randolph.
The thing is, I want to see him playing a NBA game first before giving the verdict.

Exactly. ....at this point you can say the same thing about kaminsky...stein...who ever. They all have potential to be an impact player in the nba, just as much as ok4. Its all potential right now until reality sets in.
Thats why i like Phils approach. He doesnt put much expectations into rookies. And when you do that....its less stressful. Free agents are a different story. They will make or break your rebuilding process.....
Whats up fellas..
Lol. Bro, he didn't even show up in the biggest game of his college career, the championship game vs Wisconsin.
Also, he can't dominate the playoffs cause he's a very poor free throw shooter.
He let Kami sky outplay him in the championship game.
Just as STOPSTANDTHERE just recently said: let's see him play games in the NBA level regular season first..
But to entertain this thread....yes ok4 is similar to zach. So you would think he should have success vs green whos an undersizes PF. But thats 1 team thats not the entire playoffs.
I would be fine with Okafor as the pick although I prefer Russell. Neither of them are known as defensive stoppers, but Okafor would be the last line of defense. If he had Dirk's skill set, the ability to score from anywhere on the floor, it wouldn't concern me as much.

Blake Griffin was a poor FT shooter in college and the first 3 years in the nBA-but Im sure there are 30 other teams who wish they had him right about now. Im eager to see Okafor in the NBA--in college basketball you play with very little spacing and on top of it the kid dealt with double and triple teaming. His combination of power quickness and touch with his size is RARE--something between Cousins and randolph. Right away smaller NBA players are going to see what a load this guy is. Also hes a guy who will be shooting FT at 75% within 2 years--thats not something Id worry about. Hes going to be great.

I agree. There were a lot of dominant big men through the years that were bad FT shooters in college that worked on their craft and got better in the NBA.

College is a different game altogether. Imagine if So and Shaq were drafted based off of their performances against Christian Laetner?
bottom line is he's a great prospect with great skills. For me its about the 3 at the top.. Russell and the two bigs. Russell is personal favorite because of his unique combo of passing shooting and pure leadership. I lean towards OK4 with the bigs but will be thrilled to have a chance to draft either one.

His team won. Isn't that what you want a winner.

Watching Draymond Green defy his critics, also encourages me to draft Okafor. After all, so much of what they've said about Draymond as a college prospect is true of Okafor today. Here's part of his draft deport from nbadraft.net:
Under the rim finisher, which is troublesome when you consider his size ... Not a threat to shake his defender off the dribble ... Minimal upside ... Vulnerable defending quicker guards on the perimeter ... Could stand to drop some weight ....
Today, Draymond is one of the more athletic forwards in the league and can cover 5 positions. Wouldn't be surprised if Okafor morphs into a capable defender himself once he sheds some weight and improves his conditioning.

Zach destroyed Green last night...They had to switch Bogut on Zach in the 4th..That beat down is the reason for this thread..

That doesn't negate Green's athleticism and defensive ability. The reality is that most PF's are more athletic than Zach Randolph. As a matter of fact, I can't think of one starting PF that is outmatched by him physically. In spite of that, Zach is just a genius scorer and understands how to exploit angles to get his shot off. That skill has made him an allstar, which means that he routinely kills guys even if they are adept defenders like Draymond Green.
True, Zach is a pro's pro..I understand Green can stand in front of 5 guys and not be completely embarrassed..If he is a heralded defender, at least hold your own in the position you play before we start touting how great his is guarding every other position..
I have no doubt that OK4 will be a fine offensive player in this league.
The question with him still concerns his defensive presence as a big man.
Here is the simple Catch-22 for the Knicks and OK4...
If he plays 4 for us, Anthony is at 3, and you have the makings of a defensively challenged frontline with at least two players who are very slow for their respective positions. (Also means you have to find a 5 to clean up their mess.) Both of them will score, but will they give up more than they put in?
If he plays 5 you have a potentially weak defender at the position where we are desperate for a rim protector. This problem is further exacerbated if Anthony has to move to the 4- you then have two weak rim protectors in the positions you depend on for shot blocking.
The most important aspect of OK4s development once he is in the league will be his progress as a defender.
I would take the Kentucky big man over the Duke big man. Towns over Okafor any day of the week. Duke program not known for developing a surplus of big man. Kentucky on the other hand has. Most of them NBA ready.. Cousins, A. Davis, Noel. Nazr M. from the past.. Duke known for SF. and guards.. Okafor going to be like his older cousin Emeka, injury prone..

I also think there are actual academic standards to get into Duke..

Mike Giminski, Christian Laetner, Elton Brand, Mile Plumlee and Mason Plumlee had or look like they will have solid NBA careers. Josh McRoberts is also hanging tough. The jury is still out on Jabari Parker, who will probably end up playing power forward, but his future looks positive.
The player who is NBA ready for the current Champion DUKE team roster is not J Okafor. It is Justice Winslow.
