Knicks · Can We Get This Iman Shumpert Dude? (page 1)

11 points and 6 rebounds in one half of an Eastern Conference Semifinal.

Of course, it's only one game, but it is one important game on a national stage. With front office continuity, and a bit of luck, the Knicks would have a five that includes Zach Randolph, Melo, and Trevor Ariza. That Mozgov guy doesn't suck too bad either.

It's more than one game. But that's what comes with nyc. Only a few can shine under the pressure of ny media...ny fans...and ny lifestyle.

Always been a shump fan.

stopstandthere @ 5/14/2015 9:37 PM
Once they become a Knicks, their performance will probably drop 30-50%, subject to the distraction of off-court activities.

Once they leave ny, they will be back and shine.

H1AND1 @ 5/14/2015 9:55 PM
Shump is an average NBA player whose production and strengths can be replicated by a myriad of generic free agents available every off season for generally cheap prices. Even bad players will have good performances now and then. Doesn't change the fact that Shump is looked upon fondly simply because we drafted him and absolutely no other reason.

Generic Stars

H1AND1 - Clyde made others better. Lebron makes others better.

Who do we have that makes others better?

Was Shump getting starter min? Asked to play PG? Be the team second scorer and defend the opponents best guard? Did he start?

Yes, he started.

crzymdups @ 5/14/2015 11:18 PM
I always knew we'd see Shump starting for a team in the NBA Finals.

Sadly, I also always knew the Knicks would not be that team.

(and, yes, I realize the Cavs are not technically in the Finals yet, but give it a few weeks)

holfresh @ 5/14/2015 11:53 PM
We don't have any continuity as an organization..So we have new guys in every 3/4 years saying this guy or that guy don't fit my system..Phil hasn't brought in any young GM to groom that can possibly implement what he is doing if successful..Setting up the triangle means we will have a new system a few years down the road when he is gone..The old re-threads sitting next to Fisher won't be able to help us either..The more things change the more they stay the same..
markvmc @ 5/15/2015 12:28 AM
Great point. Iman is special. No other ex-Knick role players have ever done well when moved to a better team. Oh wait....
holfresh @ 5/15/2015 12:32 AM
Not sure that's the point I was trying to convey but I'm sure you aren't interested..
markvmc @ 5/15/2015 12:45 AM
Sorry, Hol, just responding to the thread title, not to you. Should have been clearer.

For what it's worth, I agree completely with your post.

No worries bro..Gets frustrating because it seems like we are in quicksand as an organization no matter who comes in..I'm rooting for a win as an organization..Hope it starts with a good draft pick..

If we hadn't traded him we'd have his $4mil QO still on the books, plus JR's $6mil, so $10mil less in cap space. And maybe we would have won a few more games, so maybe the 6th or 7th pick in the lottery too- definitely worth all those sacrifices for a role player!

If you want him so badly you can still out bid the Cavs in FA- how much would you give him?

knickscity @ 5/15/2015 4:44 AM
Shumpert seems to always rise in the playoffs. He's a good piece for the cavs.
Nalod @ 5/15/2015 7:16 AM
Good role player on an established team with a pecking order and strong leadership in a contract year.

Well said.

Jackson has indicated the biggest reason he traded Shumpert — beyond his free-agent status — was his belief he was cursed by the injury bug. And Shumpert played through a strained groin in this series.

Nobody. But that wasn't my point. If we ever do get a player who "makes others better", we can add someone with the exact same production as Iman pretty easily via free agency.

Shump on a bad team was playing for his contract. Very stressful for him. Its a buisiness and this is his time. We did him a favor.
Jr I don't think dissed the knicks as the papers would have us believe. I think he has to say how their sesaon started and look at them now is remarkable to take in the moment!
Knicks were awful and he was a part of it.
Media going and making trouble where there is none.

That means any solid player joining the knicks needs to prepare to have his skills reduce to borderline trash, because the knicks don't have a player that makes others better.

Lets not talk about the triangle and Iso woody
