Knicks · At what point is Chris Paul criticized for lack of success? (page 3)

Doc should relinquish his duties as GM but that is not the reason they lost this series. The team was good enough to dethrone the Champions. Like DK said they were simply gassed the final 3 games of this series. Houston was fresh off a 5 game series and give Houston credit. They refused to lose. Great job by Mchale getting Smith to contribute and as always great job by Ariza(ex-Knick) who always elevates his performance in the playoffs and is invaluable defensively and doing the little things to win in the playoffs.

not really trying to defend melo at all but... when has melo ever played with a guy like blake griffin or deandre jordan? all of pauls b-ball iq isn't enough to lead those guys further than the 2nd round of the playoffs? not to mention guys like reddick, barnes, crawford aren't even close to the kind of guys melo has ever played with. i think paul takes a HUGE hit this year with this loss, the clippers were/are arguably the 2nd best team in the west and they bow out early. instead of talking shit to dwight howard (who i hate) paul should have been more concerned with preserving a 16pt 4th guarter game 6 lead.

Melo's had a lot of all-stars and even Olympians over the years. I bet Iverson and maybe even Billups have a better shot at being in the HOF than Griffin and Jordan will. Billups was even a top 5 MVP candidate playing with Melo.

thanks for the breaking news bonn. you despise iverson, so giving him as an example isn't really saying much. billups fine, he played well in denver. but to say billups and iverson (as they were late in their careers) equate to what griffin and jordan are, is quite silly.

Yeah nothing he has ever had competes with blake. Blake looked like an MVP when Paul was out in the playoffs. Melo never had someone who could take over at that level.

top 5 MVP candidate and NBA finals MVP doesn't count?
Iverson was not capable of taking games over on a level of Blake Griffin? Really?

Iverson? Really? Did not expect this from you.

C'mon man ... he was terrible in Denver and the absolute worst matchup for a guy like Melo.

Yeah, using Iverson as an example is a reach to say the least. Billups was great, and from a leadership standpoint, is tough to compete with. He was finals MVP, no doubt. But 30-something year old billups cannot be compared to Blake right now from a talent standpoint, which is what is being compared. Paul plays with a lot of talent. He plays with 1 other franchise player, 1 other star player, and role players built to surround these stars.

well obviously Paul had mucher better teams than Melo but I think that Billups was more important to that team than Blake would have been.

Replace CB for Blake and there is no chance that Denver makes it to the conf final.

CB was a leader who was also quite efficient (great TS!) though according to some, he really sucked and was like putting lipstick on a pig. The dude got too many freebies at the FT line. haha

He took over games at times. That's all that was being discussed - not how great he was. He averaged mid to upper 20 ppg his first few years in Denver. Using the eyeball test that these guys usually use, people would have put him ahead of Blake. If you want to use the advanced metrics instead, Paul is outstanding and this whole thread is a waste of time.

is it really what it is? have you read the whole thread or just looking at certain posts? the premise of the thread has nothing to do with melo, only that chris paul has choked himself out the playoffs multiple times and with very good basketball teams.

well the Blake Griffin post started out about Blake Griffin only but a poster made it about Harden which one of those players that get knocked by the pro melo world (for some odd reason) and they feel that it props melo up yet it does the exact opposite.

people need to be honest (on both sides) and keep the same standards across the board.

Comparing CP3's failures to Melo's is a complete joke and beyond dishonest and ignorant.

The original post is about Paul (see the title) and his lack of accountability for playoff failure. Melo was mentioned as a comparison for what accountability looks like when you don't have playoff success. Plus this is a Knicks board, so a Knicks reference was made.
