Knicks · Are we better off at Pick 1 or dropping to 2 or 3? (page 2)

Pick number 1 you decide your own fate. Do your due diligence and pick the best player.

And live with the result.

Much less second guessing than if you trade the pick for Mcdyess v2.0 or Derrick Rose.

Arguably less second guessing than pick 2-5

Take the heralded best player period. You did your part. You did your best. Get cute at pick 1 and you will pay dearly

I say first pick, then if it don't go right we have Phil to blame. If 2nd pick one can't point the finger.
gunsnewing @ 5/19/2015 11:20 AM
With that said I'm bracing for pick 10 because that's where we will wind up after blowing the year long tank final week of the season

That happens only if there is a trade.

We do not know there is a drop off it is just our opinion. The Euro two could be as good as anyone named in most posters top 5. Heck there might be a Kawhai or Giannis who knows.

However, you would want pick number 1 so you can hold all the cards in your favor

It doesnt matter. Along with pick #1 comes expectations and overhead. Sometimes the safer pick it #2 or #3 because thought has been removed, so your just taking the most talented guy.

Everyone has the guy or guys they love. For me its OK4/Russell. If we got one of those I would blissfully believe we have added the cornerstone piece to move forward with. Towns/Mudiay requires some more trust on my part but I acknowledge both are excellent prospects. Towns is a local kid and thats a lot of extra pressure as well, especially for a kid so much prove. Regardless all top 4 are excellent prospects.

I feel the same way. Any of those 4 would be excellent picks, preference aside.

Plus if you have the #1 you get to workout all the top players and make your most educated pick. As of today it is real close. If ok4 severely outperforms Towns then he should be the guy vice versa. Both bigs would have to bomb their workouts for us to draft one of the guards #1

It almost like if we are #1 the thought is how are we going to phuck this up. If we are pick #3 just take the guy you like the most and live happily every after. Time will tell. Part of my preference for OK4/Russell is their skill sets are more clearly defined and honed, so it makes it easier to put complimentary pieces around them. They are both a little more stupid proof which is key when coming to the Knicks

Really it doesn't matter. Say we pick Mudiay at 3 and he is a complete bust and Russell and Winslow are great. We will never live that one down

Hence my post!

And that is my thinking too- at 1, we have so many options - at 2 or 3, less so.

And I have to say - I think this is the BIGGEST reason I hope we land #1 - it gives us so much leverage with the players & agents.
