WCS would help make up for Melo's limited range as well as anyone else we add who may not have the best defensive quickness. Also he's not as bad offensively as some may think. He has great hands and can finish above the rim. WCS even has a little mid range. I don't think it's impossible for him to add to his offensive repertoire with more work. He wouldn't be the 1st player to add to his skills.
People tend to undervalue defensive talent, which is understandable in today's NBA. Still this team can't keep going without addressing the D and Phil has said it's his top priority.
Phil will be able to find more big Combo guards but an elite defensive big that can guard all five positions is much harder to come across.

No way you take a WCS up that high. Take Mudiay who I think will be gone at 3. So take Hezonja or Russell. Play it safe take the players that are suppose to be taken.
Id rather draft Rakeem Christmas as a C at 34 than take Willie Stein at 4.
You know what---I wouldnt doubt that Rakeem Christmas is one of the draft's most successful players to start off his NBA career. Hes a 4 year player who improved dramatically and one thing you could see so easily in Chicago is the confidence and polish he had. He was smoooooth. He's a 4 man who can play 5 and he has some offensive upside not previously noticed with a VET nice mid range jumpshot. Those long arms he has allow him to use a variety of smooth moves to score while also being a guy who can help block/alter shots rebounding etc... I think you'll see in SL that he is better right off the bat than most lottery picks not named Towns or Okafor.

Stein is not the answer.
+1
but D Jordan is a super max?
fair question, but you know what your getting w/ Jordan and thats some of the best rebounding and shot blocking in the league. So whatever you pay Jordan you know what your getting for that money, and yes.. I would give him his max available.
Draft picks are all about potential. WCS is a piece. Maybe a nice piece but not sure he's a building block guy.

He said 0 offensive game. D Jordan gives you 12 points and 5 offensive rebounds a game. It will take WCS 2 weeks to amass those kinds of numbers in the NBA.

maybe but he may have a lot less bust potential than a guy like mudiay.
with todays switch happy defenses Stein could be a defensive star. DJ can't guard the perimeter like him, not even close.
today, the hardest play to guard is the PnR. Stein is phenomenal at switching on to anyone on the floor.

Im sure the C's are advertising the direct player they want to draft.

but you were sure that Phil was advertising that he was taking stein.
And, these are reports that were possibly leaked because of prelim trade talks.

One thing you can tell with Mudaiy if you study is that he is NOT a SG posing as a PG--like an O J Mayo. He really wants to pass first and make plays--more so than Russell. Russell might be a better passer but I dont think hes a better PG. And while Mudiay is NOT in the league of a Kobe athletically he uses his good athletic ability -and here is the key--his innate ability to change speeds along with his agility and power to create space. He also has that Magic Johnson PG style vision--hes a good passer and seems to know where everyone is and can get them a pass from all angles.

LOL Phil Jackson is not Danny Ainge.

cute albeit a very weak retort
here is my case for Willie Stein
The Miami Heat found Hassan Whitside in the D league this year and Willie Stein if hes in the NBA for 10 years will NEVER be better than Whiteside who the Knicks EASILY could have had for nothing.
Why am I putting a 4 pick into WCS? You know Willie Stein to me couldve gave me more than 6 points against 6-4 Notre Dame players and 2 fcking points in the TITLE game while being out there the whole time!!!!
Last game
Willie Stein 2 points 5 rebounds 1 block
Frank Kamnisky 20 points 11 rebounds 2 blcoks
By the way fishmike is dead on it seems like 1/2 the time WCS is out there he is not engaged. Tell mw how a junior a winning player gets 2 points and 5 rebounds at 7-1 in a title game? Can someone name me a guy like that--where the fck was WCS? Im not taking him 4 hes an 8-16 pick for a team that has less needs than us.
you don't even talk about defense. Its irrelevant to you?

mreinman wrote:you don't even talk about defense. Its irrelevant to you?
he's great on defense against college players. I agree he's great on switches and against the P&R. He's half a player and his total lack of desire or caring on offense should be just as big a red flag as a guy who doesnt care about defense.
mreinman wrote:you don't even talk about defense. Its irrelevant to you?
Its irrelevant to you that a 7-1 240 pound junior had 2 points and 5 rebounds in a final four game. If I was a GM Id ask him hey Willie where were you in that title game--why cant you give us better than 1-4 when it counts? Why did Kamnisky get 20-11? You were the experienced player out there--how can I rely on you--you let your teammates down.

He is not a focal point of the offense.
based on that assessment, maybe based on the final game, he should drop to the 2nd round.
Comparing him to kaminsky is silly. Kaminsky can't defend and WCS can't score.
And, we both know that WCS goes higher than kaminsky.

Maybe because Calapari offense sucks and is unimaginative. There offense lacked pacing, with a power forward playing 3. In the nba he'll get more spacing, somewhat do to the longer 3or line and maybe because he goes to a 1 -4 out team.
Also, who counts one game as a career?
By the way I'm not even a Stein fan but hopefully biding war starts for him or mudiay and the Knicks use it to their advantage.
