I kind of kept my eye on him this season and I think that he is a definite "upswing" type player that a team might be buying at a low that is ready to take off.

He is 23 years old. If you look back at Demarre Carroll's career--it's not even as close as Williams at the same stage. Carroll finally has moved up and now hes going to be PAID and MULTIPLE teams will be willing to pay him more than 10mm per year.

Can we be a team--like with Scvheyd find a Williams and just pay much less while he moves up in play? He still has a world of natural talent and athletic ability. Who is better for the Knicks--Carroll at 11-12mm per year or Williams at 3mm?

Hes got a LOT of athletic talent--I think in the right situation this guy blossoms rather well as a mobile 4 who can move to 3.

I think he's perfect for what we're trying to do... he's constantly cutting and hustling, yet has range and above average athleticism. Good find!

He's also down at this moment as being one of the worst high picks in recent years.

Still, I would take a chance. Not sure about his D, but if you get him cheap with a team friendly contract, and he fits in, he's worth a look, and maybe he justifies his 2nd pick in the draft status.

I'll put him on the list, but he's far down on it. He hasn't really shown that he excels at anything other than dunking on fastbreaks. His shooting, rebounding and defense have been sub par. I'd rather keep Lance, to be honest.

i watched him play all year as well. hes NOT a good basketball player. he cant shoot, dribble or pass. he SHOULD be a better defender with his athleticism but he has a low BBall IQ. Sure id sign him for cheap (2mill) but i wouldnt expect much from him. I dont think hes smart enough to grasp the triangle. hes one of these players that his the genetic lottery but never learned how to play bball

now THERES a name! aminu is a sleeper. his problem is that he's a "jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none"...dude is still young and very talented. i wouldnt overpay him but i like him as a role player off the bench

He's a player who is going to rise up in the right spot. If you look at his play(given you dont see the negative right?)he plays hard-- he runs the floor hard in every sequence--he's aggressive hes quite an athlete. He looks like he can be a better 3 point shooter(his shot looks fine)--kind of like what Carroll has done with time--just keep improving.

His play per 36 minute avg is actually higher than Carroll. Carroll has a better efficiency but hes also peaking out as a player--Williams is 23 and would cost up to 8-9mm less a season.

If we do get a Monroe--you can see how he understands how to play off the passer. He cuts well and finishes aggressively.

see im not sure his career is on the rise. i think its on the downfall - along with thomas robinson. these guys were overhyped players in college who played well because of their physicality compared to peers. i dont think hes very skilled at all. if youre willing to pay him the mini vet just to see if he finally learns how to play basketball - sure, why not. i just dont think hes that good. the immortal omri cassipi was better off the bench than williams...williams is that classic tweener - PF trapped in a SF body. his dunks are fun to watch though

This years free agency has become so thin due to restricted FA's essentially being taken off the matcher due to the future cap increase, combined with injuries, we need to consider any inexpensive potential hidden gem- we're short of pretty much everything!

no i get it. i just refuse to pay more than the mini vet to these scrubs. lol. williams is an exciting dunker - thats the only thing that impresses me about him. now Aminu is more versatile and a better overall player. id invest in him (3-5mill) knowing that at best hes a solid role player

I agree 100 percent we need to get younger with players on the up and up for cheaper this guy is perfect for the triangle as well as shved.. We need to focus on getting more talent as a team .. Put melon on the back burner in terms of finding vet talent .. The only max talents that are worth it are Monroe,butler,dry green, k Lenard the rest are too close to 30 ...

BRIGGS...I have not seen any posts from you lately about Alexis Ajinça. You don't think he is worthy for us anymore? Specially now that we have no chance of getting Towns or OK4?

I like Ajinca a lot for us. Continues to be one of my top frontcourt targets. I hope Phil has some interest..

I put Derrick Williams in the same boat as Thomas Robinson -- I don't think we've seen the best outta these two guys yet. Williams probably has the better offensive potential; T-Rob could be an elite level rebounder + some offense. Both guys' athleticism is through the roof...If we could get one if not both of these guys, I wouldn't complain.

or maybe they just suck and will always be scrubs? again i wouldnt mind signing either for a 1 yr mini vet contract but im not expecting much from them. there comes a point whenyou stop using the word "potential" with a player and you just conclude that theyre not good. yes i know theyre still relatively young but most of the time, these NBA teams are right.

Derrick Williams is a rotational player
we will need 7th, 8th, 9th man, possibly improve to a 6th man candidate that is in his prime as a tweener SF/PF, much like Gereld Green at SG/SF
At a short term 2year deal at about 3m a year would seem fair

I can see the interest in Thomas Robinson. He's shown that he can rebound decently. Williams hasn't shown that he can do anything at a decent NBA level. Williams would be better of figuring things out overseas or the d-league.

Clippers are inviting Royce White to play on their summer league team. Not sure that he can ever overcome his troubles or make it back to an nba level talent but he is a guy worth monitoring.
