We know there are many things that can change, but looking at it right now, many would probably agree this is a highly likely scenario. Triangle fit aside, what is the upside of this group, and what is needed to surround them? If Mudiay becomes a star in the league in, say, 3 years, and Monroe takes the necessary step forward to become a 18 and 10 player and all-star candidate, what is the ceiling of this group? We would need a 2-way SG who excels as a spot up shooter (Danny Green, Wes Matthews, Afflalo) and a big man who is a good defender and can hit the mid-range jumper (R Lopez, Koufos, Brandon Bass, Lavoy Allen, Thompson.) This also assumes we can build on this group the following summer, but i'm just trying to look at the most likely scenario and figure out what type of upside this group really has.

Whatever happens, we need Melo to become Paul Pierce - someone who has aged gracefully & accepts his role and provides leadership.

How many years does Melo have that we can reasonably expect him to put out 24 & 6 type averages?

Its 1, may 2 years, and then its down hill.

Next year our threads are - just imagine if we had been able to add (top 3 pick next years draft), instead, we got garbage and another year of crap play to look forward to.

If Mudiay or maybe Russell can become a star, the transition from Melo being the best player and first offensive option to the kid becoming the best player and first offensive option could be relatively natural and easy.

It can very well be Russell instead of Mudiay. The difference between the 2 is very small in terms of talent and effectiveness, what separates them is playing style. But generally speaking, either one of them will be fine and both will have a similar impact on the franchise moving forward.

That is the hope. Melo still holds the fort on offense for the next 2-3 years but the transition could be smooth if things work out. Maybe it looks something like this:

Year 1: Melo 23 ppg, Monroe 17 ppg, Mudiay/Russell 13 ppg
Year 2: Melo 22 ppg, Monroe 18 ppg, Mudiay/Russell 15 ppg
Year 3: Melo 20 ppg, Monroe 18 ppg, Mudiay/Russell 17 ppg
Year 4: Melo 17 ppg, Monroe 18 ppg, Mudiay/Russell 20 ppg

No reason to think Monroe won't be a 18 and 10 player here and Mudiay or Russell won't be 20 ppg, 6 ast, 5 reb type just with different styles.

Oh my! The difference between Mudiay (the unknown) and Russell is so huge dude. Russell Is a clone of Steph Curry, but taller. As for Mudiay, we don't even know if he can really drible the ball. He is definitely not as tall as advertised; and all I have heard about him is that he is athletic and can't shoot the rock.

I sure hope that Phil can find a way to convince his sister to pick Russell and trade him to the Knicks for either Okafor or Towns

Why are we talking like Melo needs a walker? He's still in his prime. His skills are not overly related to great athletic ability. He should be able to be effective for years as long as he goes to more of his below the rim game. That shouldn't be a difficult thing for him to do.

As for the expectations of having Melo, Monroe, Mudiay, IMO that would be a good start and i'm sure they would like to add a Danny Green or some other 3nD guard. They should be able to find a shot blocker at a reasonable cost. Kosta Koufos or Alexis Ajinca could be a good target for C.

You can watch each of his full games from china online, you should check it out. Not much different than watching college ball on tv. Mudiay is not as unknown as you think. Many analysts have scouted him all year and every comparison made is John Wall, Jason Kidd, Deron Williams (pre-injury), D Rose, Westbrook. Those comparisons aren't made on a whim, they are based on scouting this season. He is an unknown to you, but show me any scount or analyst saying there is a MAJOR gap between the 2 players. I doubt you will find it. The difference between the 2 is based on preference and knowledge, but in terms of value and upside, they are extremely close (again based on all reports out there.)

Hey dingbat, that's the same lineup with Russell swapped for Mudiay. Sure, Russell would be a better fit for the triangle, I guess. But give up on your demented notions about Mudiay. One of those guards will likely be our pick and we will not suck because of one or the other.

+1. Same caliber of talent. Just because you have extended knowledge of one and haven't done your homework on the other does not make the latter a bad basketball player.

It can very well be Russell instead of Mudiay. The difference between the 2 is very small in terms of talent and effectiveness, what separates them is playing style. But generally speaking, either one of them will be fine and both will have a similar impact on the franchise moving forward.
Oh my! The difference between Mudiay (the unknown) and Russell is so huge dude. Russell Is a clone of Steph Curry, but taller. As for Mudiay, we don't even know if he can really drible the ball. He is definitely not as tall as advertised; and all I have heard about him is that he is athletic and can't shoot the rock.
I sure hope that Phil can find a way to convince his sister to pick Russell and trade him to the Knicks for either Okafor or Towns

just because YOU haven't seen mudiay, it doesn't mean:
-he's not as tall as advertised
-he can't dribble
-hes' not athletic

A lot will be revealed after the Workouts. The Knicks will be able to really get a good look at both players as well as other players who may not be getting as much hype. Like every draft there are going to be players later in the draft that become really good NBA players. The Knicks have to do their due diligence and try to identify worthy talent anywhere they can find it.

Remember they talked about Euro Talent that they feel could be brought in. I think they have a good idea of who wants to come here already. Agents have their ways of communicating with teams what they're looking for.

This is more than likely the scenario. I dont see Mudiay starting in year 1--I mean its possible look at Jordan Clarkson last year. Problem is Mudiay was a 57% FT shooter and turned the ball over a lot--hed have to clean that up.

I think we'd do better trading down getting a 2016 pick and putting Kmainsky at 4 and Melo at 3 but Im in the severe minority there.
