Knicks · Porzinigis over 7-3 Tavares last week at Eurocup final (page 1)
BRIGGS@ 5/24/2015 6:50 PM
That was fcking impressive. Dribble penetration from a 7-2 guy from 3 steps beyond the 3 point line finishing with a dunk over a 7-3 C.
BRIGGS@ 5/24/2015 6:55 PM
If he checks out OK with New York Doctors Im starting to lean towards Porzinigs over Winslow and Kaminsky. I think Mudiay might be a safe pick but hes not 7-2 and he cant shoot.

Whats interesting is before we found out we were picking 4th, I read an article that said this guy is good enough to be a top 3 pick. First thing I said was he seems like a Paul Gasol type player that Phil likes. Then when we got the 4th pick, I was like Phil will pick this dude. Knick fans, including me arn't comfortable picking a Euro guy with our bad history, but this smells like a Phill type of player.
Too many options at the 4th spot for a rookie GM to handle. The best thing for Phil is to hope somebody picks this dude or Mudiay somewhere in the top 3.....Otherwise, I have no idea which pick he should select. Both Porzinigis and Mudiay have highlights against other Euro guys. So both are very high risk and very high reward. Either pick is like Phil trying to swing for a homerun. But, 7'2 guys that can shoot and drive to the hole don't grow on trees. Mudiay types are in every other gym you go to. At least thats the case for me and I play on a competitive level right now. Never seen a dude like this before. Seen plenty of young Mudiay's either wasting talent or going back and forth overseas.
On top of his offensive skills....He's also known as a shot blocker. And since there's no Shaqs in the league, and most teams have Chandler type centers, this dude would fit right in. You can actually play him at Center or PF....Similar to Kaminsky's role. That brings up a question for you BRIGGS.....What makes this dude better than Kaminsky? He's only an inch taller, so you can't say height. Both have nice jumpers. Both have decent handle and ability to block shots. But Kaminsky plays against better competition correct? Or do you put Euro players above NCAA players, as far as measuring the different competition.

I understand why people like him but I just can't get behind this guy. Every video that I watch he just looks like he moves so awkwardly and I can't imagine him being able to be as effective in the NBA against much better athletes.

I agree that he has some awkwardness but hes 7-2 and 19. He has some tweener skills that with hard work will press out. Main thing with him is the MD check ups. I can wait on development not many of him around. Rudy Gobert was also awkward at 19.

If Phil and the scouts feel Kris P is the best talent then they have to take him. Phil said he expects there to be some development time needed. The scouts that are vouching for this kid will have to make their case in comparison to the other top prospects. If he measures out as a higher pick you've gotta do it. I'm not in a position to say what his upside is.
franco12@ 5/24/2015 10:10 PM
he looks too much like Frédéric Weis. I tried to get a video of Weis, but all that comes up is Vince Carter dunking on him.

Porzingis is longer when you consider his reach. It showed in that highlight. I've never seen Kaminsky finish over top of a defense like that. Also, Porzingis is doing this against better competition. Porzingis has superior block and steals numbers against better competition as well. I think it shows Porzingis is the superior athlete.

I get all of that but Im still not sure if Porzingis is the better basketball player:) Im willing to roll the dice he is if I ca t trade down and get extra picks.

KrisP is going against more physical and larger men in the Euro league on a nightly basis. As slim as he is he's holding his own it seems. I've gotta find some game video to get a better look.
WaltLongmire@ 5/24/2015 11:41 PM
Watch what happens. He gets hyped, does great in workouts, gets picked 1 or 2, and goes on to become Dirk 2.0.
He's a big lanky kid with a lot of skill. At this point he is more complete of a player than most of the bigs on the board.
Players of his size and age look awkward at times, and sometimes coordination takes a little time to catch up to body growth/length, but if you look at enough clips of him you realize that his game is developed and diverse, and let's face it, he's already able to compete at a pretty high level and with success, despite his age.
Folks have to accept the fact that bodies develop at different rates, just as some players are slower in developing BB skills than others. People seem to get caught up with his gangly posture at times, and because he is white, blonde, European, and over 7ft, they compare him to Weis. This is a mistake, and shows a certain laziness in terms of taking the time to look at his game.
We compare the guys we like to the great players... the ones we don't like get compared to Weis or any player who was less than great.
I want the Knicks to pick the best player for this team, and hope that Jackson and company will do just that, no matter who that players ends up being.
nixluva@ 5/24/2015 11:46 PM
This kid is kind of growing on me. I was watching one of his videos and to be honest his body looks more like a Swimmer's build. He's got some good tone overall. He runs like a damn Gazelle. I think he actually looks fairly coordinated and smooth for a kid that tall. I think he's gonna be alright movement wise as he matures.
Look at the height he got on this dunk. He's got that Olympic High Jumper style hops.

I would love to hear what Kevin Wilson says about this kid. He has been in the position of scouting guys you sign as free agents. Moz, Prigs and Cope were all great signings but low risk. Getting the fourth pick is a bit different.

Me too- also I have come to the conclusion that I must be a bit racist towards skinny euro big men! I just think he'll be a bust.

All those highlights just seem to show him being tall- where's the skill? (That's a genuine question- I don't know much about him)- plus his rebounding numbers are pretty bad for his hight.

I watched only 4 mins of the draft express scouting video....saw his lateral quickness on defense....and im sold.
I dont think he will be available at 4..

Good, then Russell will be
Even if he looks legit, there is no way the 76ers will take him over Russell- as well as Embiid and Noels, they also have that euro PF they drafted last year, who is also talk, skinny etc with a lot of upside.
nixluva@ 5/25/2015 11:58 AM
With Kris P. you have to be able to project a little bit. This kid is young and still growing into his height. Some people fill out faster than others. I can't say just how good the kid is or is going to be but I would leave that up to the scouts who see him in action. There's always risk when going for prospects that aren't as developed.
There's a sort of educated guess work involved. Dirk wasn't looking as good as he would eventually become. Dirk Went #9 in his draft. It was a different time but still you have to imagine that he didn't yet look like the Dirk he would become. Not saying this kid will be Dirk, but just that he could still yet develop into a much better player. It's a tough call.
As for other draft picks, i'm not sure what the Knicks are going to do. Based on their comments after the lottery it doesn't seem like they're hot to go after more picks in this draft.
