Knicks · Would You Move Our Pick for Chris Bosh and Promise Not to Re-sign Goran Dragic? (page 1)

If the Dwayne Wade situation continues to unravel and he bolts the Heat for a payday from some other desperate team, can we pillage the Heat with our pick? We wouldn't be a contender but I'd definitely be intrigued with the prospect of having Goran Dragic and Chris Bosh with some combination of Chris Andersen, Josh McRoberts, Mario Chalmers, Loul Deng and Shabazz Napier.

The problem is the additions eat cap space, where the rookie scale is minimal. Those two will eat all our cap space.
Basicaly we have our pick and can add Monroe and still have 10 mil left to spend for example.

Its a good ides though. This is where not getting the 2nd pick sucks, we could have had Oka4 and MAYBE convinced Dragic to take a short deal, or one with an opt out and we'll get him that 5th year.

The Heat aren't going to give us their whole team for the 4th pick in the draft. And does anyone know what Bosh's situation is with the blood clot? That sounded very serious.

Chris Bosh isn't their whole team, while the rest are little more than cap fodder. Josh McRoberts missed practically the entire season and Chris Andersen had a lower PER than Jose Calderon.

I think that if we have Greg Monroe tied up we should use our pick to move down and get a combination of picks and maybe a young player so we can fill more holes. At worst just stay at 4 and take the BPA at any position. But trading the pick for "cap" is killing two assets at once for a player that is on the other side of his career AND was out of the league because of serious medical issues. If Chris Bosh was 24 I do it.

Touche. I agree with you completely. Unfortunately, I don't see us being on the pathway to a title, anyway you dice it. I just wish we could deal Melo and get this rebuild over started already.

The Heat, if they really liked Mundiay, would probably give up Dragic in a sign and trade, except they can't sign and trade him to the Knicks. Without Dragic as part of the deal, there is no real trade scenario between the Knicks and Heat that would work.

I think an argument can be made that sign and trading Dragic ( just a hypothetical here but it's not possible), then a contract dump of Luol Deng and Birdman for the 4th overall plus Clemanthony Early would help the Heat in the long and short term but only help the Knicks in the short term.

A unit of Melo, Dragic, Deng, Birdman and some roster churn plus Galloway might be enough to get the 8th seed. Dragic though would end up a millstone around the neck deal by the last two years. It would be a one year playoff push that would cost the Knicks their next three years.

The Knicks wouldn't get Bosh nor Napier nor McRoberts in any deal.

Bosh is on the wrong side of his career and the jury is still out on whether he is an empty stats player; at least in the capacity of a no.1 or no.2 on a contender. I think that Riley would listen if there is a realistic possibility that Dwayne Wade is leaving and Dragic is pushing for a max deal. I think that he'd take a page out of his 2003 playbook and just rebuild their team using our no.4 and their own no.10 pick.

This X 100. Cap space and a #4 pick are both tremendous assets to build a team. Why spend both on one player? As it is we need to make the most of what we got.
