Other then being in the middle of the most embarrassing sexual harassment suit a sports franchise has ever seen, and running the knicks it to cap hell, he's been great

Law suit? Yes, but he did not hurt the Knicks cap. It has been bad for an eternity

Worse, he destroyed the Knicks credibility around the league. In 2002, if we'd had max cap space, we could've gotten Chris Webber. In 2010 when Donnie and MDA did the work to get that cap space, none of the real elite talent in the league even considered the Knicks. Amar'e came because we guaranteed five years... to be fair to him, he did completely embrace the challenge of restoring the Knicks to prominence, which no one else would do.

He did not destroy the Knicks, James Dolan did

I don't get the dolan destroying the knicks part, he hired some highly respected ppl, they just never did their jobs right and were completely irresponsible with the money they had access to.

If you give your 3 children (graduating college) amex black cards and 1 decided to buy drugs with it and ruin their life and run the family into a financial crisis, how much blame can you place on the parent if he just wanted the best for his children, and none of them had a history of drug abuse.

Thats how i look at dolan

I believe Phil is going to make the call and if Isiah doesnt like the pick he's going to make sure he lets Dolan know about it.

if jackson can keep his conceitedness in check he should be seeking input and feedback from every corner before making the final decision himself and owning tat decision. that in itself would be refreshing, especially if it turns into a mistake. it is not likely that he is entertaining anything other than what has been discussed ad nauseam here and in other forums. but so far as the "isaiah factor" if the knicks draft mudiay or even russell it will be a sign of his meddling.

He hired people, but never allowed them room to make smart decision. Dolan's motto is solely to sell tickets, not winning basketball game

Man WTF are you talking about? Phil has been seeking input from qualified and trusted sources. He's even talked about that already. He's not the fool you guys think he is. It's insulting to listen to this kind of garbage you guys keep spouting. His entire career he's been taking in information from other people. He used to Run a Flex Offense but after talking with Tex Winter he came to appreciate the Triangle. He has an ego like all winning coaches and GM's. That doesn't mean he's totally closed minded. He just has strong beliefs based on experience. This man was there watching guys like Jerry West and Jerry Krause building teams and he was involved in the decision making. It's not like he came into this cold Turkey with no idea of what GM's actually do.

Isiah is not involved and i'm pretty sure Phil would not accept his interference. Phil and his staff have been working on this for months. Why the hell would they want some guy to come parachuting in at the end of the process? What could he offer given he has no idea what their internal plans are? We need to stop with the crazy talk.

Seems like there are 65 voices and the last one is the dumbest.

I think this is a easy choice that i'm 100% confident that Phil is not only making this pick but running everything he says he's running. Haven't you guys payed attention over Phil's coaching years of how big a ego he really has and how stubborn he is?? That's why he couldn't get along with J.West in LA. Phil wouldn't be doing this job in New York if he didn't really have full control.

I tend to go with this assessment.

I hope that he is the type of man who will step away if some of these conspiracy theories are real.

I think Phil thinks he has full control, but I totally believe the stories saying he's only doing this job part-time.

Can you really have full control if you're only working part-time?

So if Phil drafts the highest talent on the board, Isiah must be involve, brilliant..

What..? Phil is doing a part time job but being paid full time..

Right now Phil is getting the Glen Sather treatment. He is in control to the degree that any GM is in control at the whim of the owner. He can do what he feels is right which is about all we can ask. He pretty much sent everyone away except Melo so that's pretty strong right there. He's got about 2/3's of the roster to fill out. That's a huge deal. Dolan isn't gonna interfere on each and every one of Phil's acquisitions. What could he possible know about all these FA players and prospects? Going after Melo or Lebron is easy. Everyone knows they're stars. Actual team building is an entirely different matter. I think this is just more Self Hating Knick Fan garbage. Phil is making the final decisions.

I want to agree, but for instance - where do you think Phil is right now? Do you think he's in NY? Do you think he's on the beach in La Playa? Is he in Montana? Where do you think he is right now?

The Knicks have player workouts coming up soon. The entire month is about the draft and possible deals to add picks or players. If you think Phil isn't engaged you don't really understand how much work this all entails and he's been thru this before as a Head Coach. It's not like Phil was hanging out at the beach and just sauntered in after the players were picked in LA. He was involved because every move effected the players he was going into battle with. You have to put yourself in the mind of a guy that really only knows winning. He doesn't want to fail at this. It's easy for the media to prescribe false narratives about what makes Phil tick, but I have respect for men like Phil cuz I know what it takes to build something. If you've actually built a company from scratch or been part of multiple Strategic plans or have been a Project Manager then you know the mentality it takes to see projects thru.
