Tobias and Melo can play both the 3 or 4 so we can switch them up if need be. I wouldn't doubt if Phil thinks we could get by with Gallo/THJ/Calderon/Ledo and Shved at the 1 and 2 spots and maybe even bring in a veteran for cheap cause we'd have a lot of talent at the other 3 spots with some combo of Melo/T.Harris/P.Milsap and G.Monroe and we'd still have our draft pick to put somewhere.

The maximum offer Monroe can receive in free agency outside of Detroit is four years, and just short of $67.5 Million. That begins at $15.8 Million in the first season with maximum 4.5% raises in each following year.
That would be good value for a 25 year old big man who can be a consistent producer in the post, passing and rebounding. Tho he's not a shot blocker he actually showed improvement on the defensive end.
4yr $68M actually makes me feel great about Monroe. I would do that in a heartbeat. I thought it was going to be 4yr $78M.
I think he'll be a bargain at that number.

Positionally, it makes no sense to have 75% 85 of the cap tied up in Calderon, Melo/Monroe and Harris or Milsap.Anyways, we'll see. There are certain combinations where I wouldn't mind having Harris on the team.
Edited - This may make you feel better
If everything Jalen said were true, Kevin Durant would be on the Rockets by now.
He literally just pulled names out of a hat when asked where Millsap would go. He said "...uh... New York. The Knicks." then Tobias Harris ".... uh New York..." then later Monroe... long silence... the other guy starts laughing and says "you know something!" and Jalen says "He's going to the Knicks... the knicks will get two of the three I said.." He didn't think about it very much and Monroe was the only one he appeared to have inside info on.

Youre throwing 3 slow older guys together. Anthony 31 Millsap 32 and while Monroe is 24 hes slow.

That's a hell of a jump for year 1!
If that's the goal then yeah..A maxed out .500 team is what Layden had..
Cap is going up two years in a row after this to almost $100M
Exactly. Think about if we had a team with Melo, Monroe, Harris and whoever we draft and most likely make the playoffs next year I would have to think after next year when the cap goes up that a big name free agent would love to join that group of players.

Which means we don't have to just add mediocre players just because..
It's a perception thing - if the Knicks don't get a lot better, free agents and the league will continue to think "Knicks suck, no one is going there"
Any max signed this summer with a $15M salary will be easily tradeable with a $100M cap.
Why sign a player you then need to trade?..I'll make the call right now..Monroe is a deadbeat..Won't move the needle in terms of wins..He has been on a team 5 years that hasn't won 30 games..Can't shoot beyond 10 feet..Slow and certainly isn't a defender...But let's max him..I prefer Tristan Thompson, although we can't get him..
I prefer a lot of guys we can't get to but what good does that do??

Neither one is as bad as people make them out to be and Harris is only 22 but they aren't making the all defensive team that's for sure.

Whoa whoa whoa there killer. I'm not throwing anyone together all I'm doing is relaying what Jalen Rose was talking about on a dang podcast. If I was building the team those wouldn't be my dream team lineup.

Harris is 23 and quite athletic.
Monroe gets the shaft from quite a few people, but really its not fair. He's a very solid player who can be close to a 18/10 big with decent touches. He'll get that in this offense. He also gets steals and isn't as bad on D as some think. He's just not a very explosive player. All that with a 24 yr old guy at a very reasonable price.
This is what happened with Monroe after they waived Josh Smith and before he was injured in March. He clearly started to play better and I think he can play even better with the right role. His game fits this offense much better IMO.

Where is David West now?
What am I, his agent?
I get what your saying but the league is changing...Draymond Green is the starting PF on a championship contending team. I think a rotation of Melo, Tobias, Monroe and Stein can work.. In todays NBA the bigs are playing smaller and the smalls are playing a little bigger...Its all about having at least 4 out of your 5 players that can put the ball on the floor and stretch the floor. Aint as many bruisers up front like in the 80's...
When you do run into that team, you adjust....Stein, Monroe and Melo up front, rotate Tobias in when the other team goes small up front...
With our pick going to whoever next season, I would have thought we need max improvement this year.
If it is Monroe, surely he is a massive upgrade on the PF we have currently... Hopefully we could find a cheaper rim protector to go with him, (maybe Ajinca or he might be too expensive now).
I just hope that whoever we draft isn't thrown straight into our starting line up and burdened with the weight of New York on his shoulders, let some older free agents cop that while our potential star learns the ropes

Draymond Green defends the position..Atlanta got destroyed on the offensive boards with that type of line up..

Don't need to i already watched it when it happened and of course you're over reacting which is done quite a bit on here when people will do everything they can to try and prove their point. Again.....Melo and Harris aren't as bad on defense as they're made out to be.
